We present a study of the Effective Field Theory (EFT) generalization of stochastic inflation in a model-independent single-field framework and its impact on primordial black hole (PBH) formation. We show how the Langevin equations for the "soft" modes in quasi de Sitter background is described by the Infra-Red (IR) contributions of scalar perturbations, and the subsequent Fokker-Planck equation driving the probability distribution for the stochastic duration ${\cal N}$, significantly modify in the present EFT picture. An explicit perturbative analysis of the distribution function by implementing the stochastic-$δN$ formalism is performed up to the next-to-next-to-next-to-leading order (NNNLO) for both the classical-drift and quantum-diffusion dominated regimes. In the drift-dominated limit, we perturbatively analyse the local non-Gaussianity parameters $(f_{\rm NL}, g_{\rm NL}, τ_{\rm NL})$ with the EFT-induced modifications. In the diffusion-dominated limit, we numerically compute the probability distribution featuring exponential tails at each order of perturbative treatment.

A scale-independent energy-momentum squared gravity (EMSG) allows different gravitational couplings for different types of sources and has been proven to have interesting implications in cosmology. In this paper, the Big Bang Nucleosynthesis (BBN) formalism and the latest observational constraints are being used in order to extract constraints on this class of modified gravity models. The model has been constrained using the light element reaction rates. Using the tight constraint from BBN on the correction term in the Friedman equation due to EMSG, we find a significant deviation in the matter power spectrum of the cosmic microwave background (CMB) even for a very small allowed value of the modification parameter, thus pointing out the sensitivity of the matter power spectrum at the small scales.

We demonstrate the explicit realisation of the ultra-slow roll phase in the framework of the effective field theory of single-field Galileon inflation. The pulsar timing array (PTA) collaboration hints at the scalar-induced gravity waves (SIGW) from the early universe as an explanation for the origin of the observed signal, which, however, leads to an enhancement in the amplitude of the scalar power spectrum giving rise to the overproduction of primordial black holes (PBHs). In the setup under consideration, we examine the generation of SIGW consistent with PTA (NANOGrav15 and EPTA) data, in addition to which we also consider the impact from QCD crossover at the nHz frequencies and address the PBH overproduction issue assuming linear approximations for the over-density without incorporating non-Gaussian effects from the comoving curvature perturbation. The framework is shown to give rise to SIGWs well consistent with the PTA signal with comfortable PBH abundance, $10^{-3} \lesssim f_{\rm PBH} < 1$, of near solar-mass black holes.

PBH formation requires significantly enhancing the scalar power spectrum, which greatly affects their abundance. The associated frequencies in the nHz regime are also sensitive to the generation of scalar-induced gravitational waves (SIGWs) which may explain the current data from the pulsar timing arrays (PTAs). Our analysis using the threshold statistics on the compaction function demonstrates that Galileon theory not only avoids PBH overproduction using the curvature perturbation enhancements that give $f_{\rm NL} \sim {\cal O}(-6)$, but also generates SIGWs that conform well with the PTA data.

Thanks to the non-renormalization property of Galileon theory, the amplitude of the large fluctuation is controllable at the sharp transitions between SR and USR regions. We show that the behaviour of the GW spectrum, when one-loop effects are included in the scalar power spectrum, is preserved under a shift of the sharp transition scale with peak amplitude $Ω_{\rm GW}h^2\sim {\cal O}(10^{-6})$, and hence it can cover a wide range of frequencies within ${\cal O}(10^{-9}{\rm Hz} - 10^{7}{\rm Hz})$. An analysis of the allowed mass range for primordial black holes (PBHs) is also performed, where we find that mass values ranging from ${\cal O}(1M_{\odot} - 10^{-18}M_{\odot})$ can be generated over the corresponding allowed range of low and high frequencies.

To accomplish this, we consider the coupling function between the inflaton field and $\mathbb{T}^2= T_{μν}T^{μν}$ term. PBHs formed within this scenario can contribute partially or entirely to dark matter (DM) abundance. Furthermore, the amplification in the scalar power spectrum will concurrently produce significant scalar-induced gravitational waves (SIGWs) as a second-order effect. In addition, the energy spectrum associated with SIGWs can be compatible with the recent NANOGrav 15-year stochastic gravitational wave detection and fall into the sensitivity range of other forthcoming GW observatories.

We present a detailed study of the generation of large primordial non-Gaussianities during the slow-roll (SR) to ultra-slow roll (USR) transitions in the framework of Galileon inflation. We found out that due to having sharp transitions in the USR phase, which persist with a duration of $Δ{\it N}_{\rm USR} \sim 2$ e-folds, we are able to generate the non-Gaussianity amplitude of the order: $|f_{\rm NL}| \sim {\it O}(10^{-2})$ in the SRI, $-5 < f_{\rm NL} < 5$ in the USR, and $-2 < f_{\rm NL} < 2$ in the SRII phases. As a result, we are able to achieve a cumulative average value of $|f_{\rm NL}| \sim {\it O}(1)$. This implies that our results strictly satisfy Maldacena's no-go theorem in the squeezed limit only for SRI, while they strictly violate the same condition in both the USR and SRII phases. The non-renormalization theorem in the Galileon theory helps to support our results regarding the generation of large mass primordial black holes along with large non-Gaussianities, which we show to be dependent on the specific positions of the transition wave numbers fixed at low scales.

We demonstrate that the presence of EMSG terms allows the single-field monomial chaotic inflationary models to fall within current observational constraints, which are otherwise disfavored by Planck and BICEP/Keck findings. We show that the use of a non-canonical Lagrangian with chaotic potential in EMSG can lead to significantly larger values of the non-Gaussianity parameter, $f_{\rm Nl}^{\rm equi}$ whereas EMSG framework with canonical Lagrangian gives rise to results similar to those of the standard single-field model.

By comparing the generated observables with the standard cosmological scenario, our findings indicate support for the phantom nature of dark energy, which ultimately leads to a reduction in the existing tensions. The model-independent approach also enables us to examine the combined background and perturbative history, where tensions are reduced. Moreover, from a statistical perspective, we have shown that our results exhibit a better fit to the data when compared to the $Λ$CDM model.

We present a detailed exposition on the prospects of the formation of Primordial Black Holes (PBHs) during Slow Roll (SR) to Ultra Slow Roll (USR) sharp transitions in the framework of single-field inflation. We use an effective field theory (EFT) approach in order to keep the analysis model-independent and applicable to both the canonical and non-canonical cases. We show in detail how renormalizing the power spectrum to one loop order in $P(X,φ)$ theories severely limits the prospects for PBH formation in a single-field inflationary framework. We demonstrate that for the allowed range of effective sound speed, $1<c_s<1.17$, the consistency of one-loop corrected power spectrum leaves a small window for black hole masses, $M_{\rm PBH}\sim \mathcal{O}(10^2-10^3)$gm to have sufficient e-foldings, $Δ{\cal N}_{\rm Total}\sim {\cal O}(54-59)$ for inflation. We confirm that adding an SR regime after USR before the end of inflation does not significantly alter our conclusions. Our findings for sharp transition strictly rule out the possibility of generating large masses of PBHs from all possible models of single-field inflation (canonical and non-canonical). Our results are at least valid for the situation where constraints from the loop effects are computed using either Late-Time (LT) or Adiabatic-Wave function (AF) scheme followed by Power Spectrum (PS) renormalization schemes.

We consider a framework in which PBHs are produced during the transition from Slow Roll (SR) to Ultra Slow Roll (USR) followed by the end of inflation. We demonstrate that the renormalized power spectrum softens the contribution of the logarithmic IR divergence and severely restricts the possible mass range of produced PBHs in the said transition, namely, $M_{\rm PBH}\sim 10^{2}{\rm gm}$ ala a no-go theorem. In particular, we find that the produced PBHs are short-lived ($t^{\rm evap}_{\rm PBH}\sim 10^{-20}{\rm sec}$) and the corresponding number of e-folds in the USR region is restricted to $ΔN_{\rm USR}\approx 2$.

We consider a scenario of large-scale modification of gravity that does not invoke extra degrees of freedom but includes coupling between baryonic matter and dark matter in the Einstein frame. The total matter energy density follows the standard conservation, and evolution has the character of deceleration in this frame. The model exhibits interesting features in the Jordan frame realized by virtue of a disformal transformation where individual matter components adhere to standard conservation but gravity is modified. A generic parametrization of disformal transformation leaves thermal history intact. It gives rise to late time acceleration in the Jordan frame, which necessarily includes phantom crossing, which, in the standard framework, can be realized using at least two scalar fields. This scenario is embodied by two distinguishing features, namely, acceleration in the Jordan frame and deceleration in the Einstein frame, and the possibility of resolution of the Hubble tension thanks to the emergence of the phantom phase at late times.

In this paper, we consider a scenario of spontaneous baryogenesis in a framework of warm quintessential inflation where the residual inflaton field, left out after warm inflation, plays the role of quintessence field at late times and is coupled to a non-conserved baryonic current. Assuming a four fermion $(B-L)$ violating effective interaction, we have demonstrated that the required baryon asymmetry can be produced successfully in this case. We show that the post-inflationary evolution, with the underlying scalar field potential, $V(φ)=V^4_0 \exp{(-αφ^n/M_{\rm Pl}^4 ) }$, $n>1$ well suited to warm inflation, exhibits scaling behaviour soon after a brief kinetic regime. We show that the coupling of the scalar field to massive neutrino matter can give rise to exit from the scaling regime to cosmic acceleration at late times as massive neutrinos turn non-relativistic. The proposed model is shown to successfully describe the cosmic history from inflation to late-time acceleration, with the evolution independent of initial conditions, along with the generation of baryon asymmetry during the post-inflationary era. A brief analysis of relic gravity waves produced in the scenario is presented.

We consider a scenario of modified gravity, which is generic to late-time acceleration, namely, acceleration in the Jordan frame and no acceleration in the Einstein frame. The possibility is realized by assuming an interaction between dark matter and the baryonic component in the Einstein frame which is removed by going to the Jordan frame using a disformal transformation giving rise to an exotic effective fluid responsible for causing phantom crossing at late times. In this scenario, past evolution is not distinguished from $Λ$CDM but late time dynamics is generically different due to the presence of phantom crossing that causes a monotonous increase in the expansion rate giving rise to distinctive late-time cosmic feature. The latter can play a crucial role in addressing the tension between the observed value of Hubble parameter by CMB (Cosmic Microwave Background) measurements and the local observations. We demonstrate that the Hubble tension significantly reduces in the scenario under consideration for the chosen scale factor parametrizations. The estimated age of the universe in the model is well within the observational bounds in the low and high red-shift regimes.

Spontaneous symmetry breaking is the foundation of electroweak unification and serves as an integral part of the model building beyond the standard model of particle physics and it also finds interesting applications in the late Universe. We review development related to obtaining the late cosmic acceleration from spontaneous symmetry breaking in the Universe at large scales. This phenomenon is best understood through Ginzburg-Landau theory of phase transitions which we briefly describe. Hereafter, we present elements of spontaneous symmetry breaking in relativistic field theory. We then discuss the "symmetron" scenario-based upon symmetry breaking in the late Universe which is realized by using a specific form of conformal coupling. However, the model is faced with "NO GO" for late time acceleration due to local gravity constraints. We argue that the problem can be circumvented by using the massless $λφ^4$ theory coupled to massive neutrino matter. As for the early Universe, spontaneous symmetry breaking finds its interesting applications in the study of electroweak phase transition. To this effect, we first discuss in detail, the Ginzburg-Landau theory of first order phase transitions and then apply it to electroweak phase transition including technical discussions on bubble nucleation and sphaleron transitions. We provide a pedagogical expositions of dynamics of electroweak phase transition and emphasize the need to go beyond the standard model of particle physics for addressing the baryogenesis problem. Review ends with a brief discussion on Affleck-Dine mechanism and spontaneous baryogenesis. Appendixes include technical details on essential ingredients of baryogenesis, sphaleron solution, one loop finite temperature effective potential and dynamics of bubble nucleation.

We consider the framework of quintessential inflation in the warm background which is caused by the dissipation of the scalar field energy density into relativistic degrees of freedom. The dissipation process has important consequences for the evolution both at the levels of background as well as perturbation and allows us to easily satisfy the observational constraints.~Our numerical analysis confirms that the model conforms to observational constraints even if the field-radiation coupling strength is weak. In the warm background, we investigate the post inflationary evolution of relic gravity waves produced during inflation whose amplitude is constrained by the Big Bang Nucleosynthesis constraint. Further, we investigate the effect of coupling on the amplitude of gravity waves and obtain the allowed phase space between the model parameters. The mechanism of quintessential inflation gives rise to the blue spectrum of gravitational wave background at high frequencies. We discuss the perspectives of detection of the signal of relic gravity waves by future proposed missions. Improvements of their sensitivities in the high-frequency regime, in the future, might allow us to probe the blue tilt of the spectrum caused by the presence of a kinetic regime in the underlying framework of inflation.

We consider a quartic potential for the inflaton field, in particular the one asymptotically connected to the Higgs inflation, and a wider class of coupling functions not considered in the earlier work. Keeping in mind the observational bounds on the parameters - the amplitude of scalar perturbations $A_s$, spectral index $n_s$ and tensor-to-scalar ratio $r$, we demonstrate that the model a quartic potential and the proposed coupling function is in agreement with observation.

We consider the Chiral Cosmological Models (CCMs) and modified gravity theories associated with them. Generalization of the superpotential method for a general CCM with several scalar fields is performed, and the method of construction CCMs admitting exact solutions is developed. New classes of exact solutions in the two-component CCM connected with an $f(R)$ gravity model with an additional scalar field have been constructed. We construct new cosmological solutions for a diagonal metric of the target space, including modified power-law solutions. In particular, we propose the reconstruction procedure based on the superpotential method and present examples of kinetic part reconstruction for periodic and hyperbolic Hubble parameters. We also focus on a cyclic type of Universe dubbed the Quasi-Steady State (QSS) model, with the aim of constructing single- and double-field potentials for one and the same behaviour of the Hubble parameter using the developed superpotential method for the CCM. The realization of this task includes a new set of solutions for a CCM with a scale factor characterized by the QSS theory. We also propose a method for reducing the two-field CCM to the single scalar field model.

In this paper, we introduce a scale-independent energy-momentum squared gravity (EMSG) that allows different gravitational couplings for different types of sources, which may lead to scenarios with many interesting applications/implications in cosmology. In the present study, to begin with, we study a modification of the $Λ$ cold dark matter ($Λ$CDM) model, where photons and baryons couple to the spacetime as in general relativity, while the cold dark matter and relativistic relics (neutrinos and any other relativistic relics) couple to the spacetime in accordance with EMSG. This scenario induces pseudo nonminimal interactions on these components, leading to modification at both the background and perturbative levels. A consequence of this scenario is that the dimensionless free parameter of the theory may induce direct changes on the effective number of the relativistic species, without the need to introduce new extra species. In order to quantify the observational consequences of the cosmological scenario, we use the cosmic microwave background Planck data (temperature, polarization, and lensing power spectrum) and baryonic acoustic oscillations data. We find that the free model parameter is too small to induce statistically significant corrections on the $Λ$CDM model due to EMSG. We deduce that the model presented here is quite rich with promising cosmological applications/implications that deserve further investigations.

We systematically study the preinflationary dynamics of the spatially flat Friedmann-Lemaitre-Robertson-Walker universe filled with a single scalar field that has the generalized $α-$attractor potentials, in the framework of loop quantum cosmology, in which the big bang singularity is replaced generically by a non-singular quantum bounce due to purely quantum geometric effects. The evolution can be divided into two different classes, one is dominated initially (at the quantum bounce) by the kinetic energy of the scalar field, and one is not. In both cases, we identify numerically the physically viable initial conditions that lead to not only a slow-roll inflationary phase, but also enough $e$-folds to be consistent with observations, and find that the output of such a viable slow-roll inflationary phase is generic. In addition, we also show that in the case when the evolution of the universe is dominated initially by the kinetic energy of the scalar field (except for a very small set in the phase space), the evolution before reheating is aways divided into three different phases: {\em bouncing, transition and slow-roll inflation}. This universal feature does not depend on the initial conditions of the system nor on the specific potentials of the scalar field, as long as it is dominated initially by the kinetic energy of the scalar field at the bounce. Moreover, we carry out phase space analyses for the models under consideration and compare our results with the power-law and Starobinsky potentials.

In this paper, we investigate a scenario in which late time cosmic acceleration might arise due to coupling between dark matter and baryonic matter without resorting to dark energy or large scale modification of gravity associated with extra degrees of freedom. The scenario can give rise to late time acceleration in Jordan frame and no acceleration in Einstein frame - \textit{generic modification of gravity} caused by disformal coupling. Using a simple parametrization of the coupling function, in maximally disformal case, we constrain the model parameters by using the age constraints due to globular cluster data. We also obtain observational constraints on the parameters using $H(z)+SNIa+BAO$ data sets. In this case, we distinguish between phantom and non phantom acceleration and show that the model can give rise to phantom behavior in a narrow region of parameter space.

We study relic gravitational waves in the paradigm of quintessential inflation. In this framework, irrespective of the underlying model, inflation is followed by the kinetic regime. Thereafter, the field energy density remains sub-dominant before the onset of acceleration. We carry out model independent analysis to obtain the temperature at the end of inflation and the estimate for upper bound on the Hubble parameter to circumvent the problem due to relic gravitational waves. In this process, we used Planck 2015 data to constrain the inflationary phase. We demonstrate that the required temperature can be produced by the mechanism of instant preheating. The generic feature of the scenario includes the presence of kinetic regime after inflation which results into blue spectrum of gravitational wave background at high frequencies. We discuss the prospects of detection of relic gravitational wave background in the advanced LIGO and LISA space-born gravitational wave missions. Finally we consider a concrete model to realize the paradigm of quintessential inflation and show that inflationary as well as post-inflationary evolution can successfully be described by the inflaton potential, $V(φ) \propto Exp(-λφ^n/\Mpl^n)(n>1)$, by suitably constraining the parameters of the model.

We present detailed investigations of the inflationary stage in the light of the Planck 2015 results, study post-inflationary dynamics and analytically confirm the existence of an approximately scaling solution. Additionally, assuming that standard massive neutrinos are non-minimally coupled, makes the field $φ$ dominant once again at late times giving rise to present accelerated expansion of the Universe. We derive observational constraints on the field and time-dependent neutrino masses. In particular, for $n=6 (8)$, the parameter $λ$ is constrained to be,$\log λ> -7.29 (-11.7)$; the model produces the spectral index of the power spectrum of primordial scalar (matter density) perturbations as $ n_s = 0.959 \pm 0.001 (0.961 \pm 0.001)$ and tiny tensor-to-scalar ratio, $r<1.72 \times 10^{-2} (2.32 \times 10^{-2})$ respectively. Consequently, the upper bound on possible values of the sum of neutrino masses $Σm_ν \lesssim 2.5$ eV significantly enhances compared to that in the standard $Λ$CDM model.

This pedagogical review is devoted to quintessential inflation, which refers to unification of inflation and dark energy using a single scalar field. We present a brief but concise description of the concepts needed to join the two ends, which include discussion on scalar field dynamic, conformal coupling, instant preheating and relic gravitational waves. Models of quintessential inflation broadly fall into two classes, depending upon the early and late time behavior of the field potential. In the first type we include models in which the field potential is steep for most of the history of the Universe but turn shallow at late times, whereas in the second type the potential is shallow at early times followed by a steep behavior thereafter. In models of the first category inflation can be realized by invoking high-energy brane-induced damping, which is needed to facilitate slow roll along a steep potential. In models of second type one may invoke a non-minimal coupling of the scalar field with massive neutrino matter, which might induce a minimum in the potential at late times as neutrinos turn non-relativistic. In this category we review a class of models with non-canonical kinetic term in the Lagrangian, which can comply with recent B mode polarization measurements. The scenario under consideration is distinguished by the presence of a kinetic phase, which precedes the radiative regime, giving rise to blue spectrum of gravity waves generated during inflation. We highlight the generic features of quintessential inflation and also discuss on issues related to Lyth bound.

In this paper, we investigate a scenario of variable gravity and apply it to the unified description of inflation and late time cosmic acceleration dubbed quintessential inflation. The scalar field called "cosmon" which in this model unifies both the concepts reduces to inflaton at early epochs. We calculate the slow-roll parameters, the Hubble parameter at the end of inflation, the reheating temperature, the tensor-to-scalar ration and demonstrate the agreement of the model with observations and the Planck data.As for the post inflationary dynamics, cosmon tracks the background before it exits the scaling regime at late times. The scenario gives rise to correct epoch sequence of standard cosmology, namely, radiative regime, matter phase and dark-energy. We show that the long kinetic regime after inflation gives rise to enhancement of relic gravity wave amplitude resulting into violation of nucleosynthesis constraint at the commencement of radiative regime in case of an inefficient reheating mechanism such as gravitational particle production. Instant preheating is implemented to successfully circumvent the problem. As a generic feature, the scenario gives rise to a blue spectrum for gravity waves on scales smaller than the comoving horizon scale at the commencement of the radiative regime.

We then focus on the late time inconsistency of the model dubbed age crisis whose resolution requires the presence of a repulsive effect that could be sourced either by dark energy or by a large scale modification of gravity. By and large, our description is based upon Newtonian cosmology which is simple and elegant despite of its limitations. In this paper we investigate the case of non-minimal coupling in the (extended) nonlinear massive gravity theories. We first consider massive gravity in the Brans-Dicke background such that the graviton mass is replaced by $A^2(σ)m$ where $σ$ is the Brans-Dicke field and $A(σ)$ is conformal coupling and show that there is no viable thermal history of the universe in this case. We then invoke a cubic galileon term as nonlinear completion of the $σ$ Lagrangian and show that there is a stable de Sitter solution in this case. However, the de Sitter is blocked by the matter phase which is also a simultaneous attractor of the dynamics. The de Sitter phase can, however, be realized by invoking unnatural fine tunings. We next investigate cosmology of quasi-dilaton nonlinear massive gravity with non-minimal coupling. As a generic feature of the non-minimal coupling, we show that the model exhibits a transient phantom phase which is otherwise impossible. While performing the observational data analysis on the models, we find that a small value of coupling constant is allowed for quasi-dilaton nonlinear massive gravity. For both the cases under consideration, it is observed that we have an effective pressure of matter which comes from the constraint equation. For mass-varying nonlinear massive gravity in the Brans-Dicke background, the effective pressure of matter is non zero which affects the evolution of the Hubble parameter thereby spoiling consistency of the model with data. As for, quasi-dilaton nonlinear massive gravity, the effective pressure of matter can be kept around zero by controlling the coupling constant, the model is shown to be fit well with observations.

We investigate cosmological behavior in the quasi-Dilaton non-linear massive gravity. We perform a detailed dynamical analysis and examine the stable late-time solutions relevant to late time cosmic acceleration. We demonstrate that a dark-energy dominated, cosmological-constant-like solution is a late attractor of the dynamics. We also analyze the evolution of the universe at intermediate times, showing that the observed epoch sequence can be easily obtained in the model under consideration. Furthermore, we study the non-singular bounce and the cosmological turnaround which can be realized for a region of the parameter space. Last but not least, we use observational data from Type Ia Supernovae (SNIa), Baryon Acoustic Oscillations (BAO) and Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB), in order to constrain the parameters of the theory.

Being convinced of symmetron incapability to be dark energy, we try to retain its role for spontaneous symmetry breaking and assign the role of dark energy either to standard quintessence or $F(R)$ theory which are switched on by symmetron field in the symmetry broken phase. The scenario reduces to standard Einstein gravity in the high density region. After the phase transition generated by symmetron field, either the $F(R)$ gravity or the standard quintessence are induced in the low density region. we demonstrate that local gravity constraints and other requirements are satisfied although the model could generate the late-time acceleration of Universe.

Abstract:
We investigate the cosmological dynamics of non-minimally coupled scalar field system described by $F(φ)R$ coupling with $F(φ)=(1-ξφ^N)R$($N\ge2$) and the field potential, $V(φ)=V_0φ^n$. We investigate the cosmological dynamics of non-minimally coupled scalar field system described by $F(φ)R$ coupling with $F(φ)=(1-ξφ^N)R$($N\ge2$) and the field potential, $V(φ)=V_0φ^n$. We use a generic set of dynamical variables to bring out new asymptotic regimes of the underlying dynamics. However, our dynamical variables miss the most important fixed point$-$ the de Sitter solution. We make use of the original form of system of equations to investigate the issues related to this important solution. In particular, we show that the de-Sitter solution which is a dynamical attractor of the system lies in the region of negative effective gravitational constant $G_N$ thereby leading to a ghost dominated universe in future and a transient quintessence(phantom) phase with $G_N>0 $ around the present epoch (however, as demonstrated by Starobinsky in 1981, the ghost dominated universe, if exists, can not be accessed from the Universe we live in, we shall say more about this important result in the last section). We also carry out comparison of the model with other competing models of dark energy such as galileon modified gravity and others.

In this paper, we examine the cosmological viability of a light mass galileon field consistent with local gravity constraints. The minimal, L_3=\Boxφ(\partial_μφ)^2, massless galileon field requires an additional term in order to give rise to a viable ghost free late time acceleration of Universe. The desired cosmological dynamics can either be achieved by incorporating an additional terms in the action such as (L_4,L_5) - the higher order galileon Lagrangians or by considering a light mass field a la galileon field potential. We analyse the second possibility and find that: (1) The model produces a viable cosmology in the regime where the non-linear galileon field is subdominant, (2) The Vainshtein mechanism operates at small scales where the non-linear effects become important and contribution of the field potential ceases to be significant. Also the small mass of the field under consideration is protected against strong quantum corrections thereby providing quantum stability to the system.

We derive field equations of Gauss-Bonnet gravity in 4 dimensions after dimensional reduction of the action and demonstrate that in this scenario Vainshtein mechanism operates in the flat spherically symmetric background. We show that inside this Vainshtein sphere the fifth force is negligibly small compared to the gravitational force. We also investigate stability of the spherically symmetric solution, clarify the vocabulary used in the literature about the hyperbolicity of the equation and the ghost-Laplacian stability conditions. We find superluminal behavior of the perturbation of the field in the radial direction. However, because of the presence of the non linear terms, the structure of the space-time is modified and as a result the field does not propagate in the Minkowski metric but rather in an "aether" composed by the scalar field $π(r)$. We thereby demonstrate that the superluminal behavior does not create time paradoxes thank to the absence of Causal Closed Curves. We also derive the stability conditions for Friedmann Universe in context with scalar and tensor perturbations.

We investigate brane-antibrane inflation in a warped deformed conifold background that includes contributions to the potential arising from imaginary anti-self-dual (IASD) fluxes including the term with irrational scaling dimension discovered recently. We find that the model can give rise to required number of e-foldings; observational constraint on COBE normalization is easily satisfied and low value of the tensor to scalar ratio of perturbations is achieved. We observe that these corrections to the effective potential help in relaxing the severe fine tunings associated with the earlier analysis.

We study the bounds on tensor wave in a class of twisted inflation models where $D(4+2k)$-branes are wrapped on cycles in the compact manifold and wrap the KK-direction in the corresponding effective field theory. While the lower bound is found to be analogous to that in Type IIB models of brane inflation, the upper bound turns out to be significantly different. This is argued for a range of values for the parameter $g_s M$ satisfying the self-consistency relation and the WMAP data. Further, we observe that the wrapped $D8$-brane appears to be the most attractive from a cosmological perspective.

In this paper we examine the cosmological consequences of fourth order Galileon gravity. We carry out detailed investigations of the underlying dynamics and demonstrate the stability of one de Sitter phase. The stable de Sitter phase contains a Galileon field $π$ which is an increasing function of time (\dotπ>0). Using the required suppression of the fifth force, supernovae, BAO and CMB data, we constrain parameters of the model. We find that the $π$ matter coupling parameter $β$ is constrained to small numerical values such that $β$<0.02. We also show that the parameters of the third and fourth order in the action (c_3,c_4) are not independent and with reasonable assumptions, we obtain constraints on them. We investigate the growth history of the model and find that the sub-horizon approximation is not allowed for this model. We demonstrate strong scale dependence of linear perturbations in the fourth order Galileon gravity.
