Superconformal generalizations of auxiliary vector modified polynomial f(R) theories
Abstract: We present the supersymmetric completion of the auxiliary vector modified polynomial $f(R)$ theories in their dual scalar-tensor theory formulation that interpolate between the auxiliary vector modified polynomial $f(R)$ theories and chaotic inflation with the power-law potential $V(φ) \propto φ^p$. The supersymmetrization is achieved in two steps: First, we introduce a superconformal theory for t… ▽ More

Gould Belt Members in X-ray RAVE: Cross-Matching RAVE Stars with 3XMM Point Sources
Abstract: In this paper the results of matching the RAdial Velocity Experiment (RAVE), a spectroscopic Southern hemisphere survey (9 $ < I_{DENIS} <$ 12), and XMM-Newton Serendipitous Source Catalogue (3XMM) are presented. The latest data releases of RAVE and XMM were matched and a X-ray RAVE catalogue of 1071 stars was obtained. Then the catalogue was checked for possible Gould Belt (GB) members. We obtain… ▽ More

Broken scale invariance, $α$-attractors and vector impurity
Abstract: We show that if the $α$-attractor model is realized by the spontaneous breaking of the scale symmetry, then the stability and the dynamics of the vector field that gauges the scale symmetry can severely constrain the $α$-parameter as $5/6 < α< 1$ restricting the inflationary predictions in a very tiny region in the $n_s - r$ plane that are in great agreement with the latest Planck data. Although t… ▽ More

Galileons as the Scalar Analogue of General Relativity
Abstract: We establish a correspondence between general relativity with diffeomorphism invariance and scalar field theories with Galilean invariance: notions such as the Levi-Civita connection and the Riemann tensor have a Galilean counterpart. This suggests Galilean theories as the unique nontrivial alternative to gauge theories (including general relativity). Moreover, it is shown that the requirement of… ▽ More

Universality Classes of Scale Invariant Inflation
Abstract: We investigate the inflationary implications of extensions of Poincare symmetry. The simplest constructions with local scale invariance lead to universal predictions: the spectral index is $n_s = 1-2/N$, in excellent agreement with Planck data, while the tensor-to-scalar ratio is determined by a free parameter to $r = 12 α/ N^2$. For the special value $α=1$ one finds symmetry enhancement to the fu… ▽ More

Planck constraints on inflation in auxiliary vector modified $f(R)$ theories
Abstract: We show that the universal $α$-attractor models of inflation can be realized by including an auxiliary vector field $A_μ$ for the Starobinsky model with the Lagrangian $f(R)=R+R^2/(6M^2)$. If the same procedure is applied to general modified $f(R)$ theories in which the Ricci scalar $R$ is replaced by $R+A_μ A^μ+β\nabla_μA^μ$ with constant $β$, we obtain the Brans-Dicke theory with a scalar potent… ▽ More

$R^n$ Extension of Starobinsky Model in Old Minimal Supergravity
Abstract: We provide a succinct way to construct the supersymmetric completion of $R^n$ $(n\ge3)$ in components using superconformal formulation of old minimal supergravity. As a consequence, we obtain the polynomial $f(R)$ supergravity extending the supersymmetric Starobinsky model to any higher power of $R$. The supersymmetric vacua in polynomial $f(R)$ supergravity are studied. We also present the $R^n$… ▽ More

X-ray Spectral Variations of U Gem from Quiescence to Outburst
Abstract: In this paper we report the discovery of a high energy component of the X-ray spectra of U Gem, which can be observed while the source is in outburst. We used Chandra and XMM-Newton observations to compare the quiescence and outburst X-ray spectra of the source. The additional component may be the result of the reflection of X-rays emitted from an optically thin plasma close to the white dwarf,… ▽ More
