We present the largest optical photometry compilation of Gamma-Ray Bursts (GRBs) with redshifts ($z$). We include 64813 observations of 535 events (including upper limits) from 28 February 1997 up to 18 August 2023. We also present a user-friendly web tool \textit{grbLC} which allows users the visualization of photometry, coordinates, redshift, host galaxy extinction, and spectral indices for each event in our database. Furthermore, we have added a Gamma Ray Coordinate Network (GCN) scraper that can be used to collect data by gathering magnitudes from the GCNs. The web tool also includes a package for uniformly investigating colour evolution. We compute the optical spectral indices for 138 GRBs for which we have at least 4 filters at the same epoch in our sample and craft a procedure to distinguish between GRBs with and without colour evolution. By providing a uniform format and repository for the optical catalogue, this web-based archive is the first step towards unifying several community efforts to gather the photometric information for all GRBs with known redshifts. This catalogue will enable population studies by providing light curves (LCs) with better coverage since we have gathered data from different ground-based locations. Consequently, these LCs can be used to train future LC reconstructions for an extended inference of the redshift. The data gathering also allows us to fill some of the orbital gaps from Swift in crucial points of the LCs, e.g., at the end of the plateau emission or where a jet break is identified.

Ultralight electrophilic scalar field can mediate a long-range force or radiate from a pulsar or a magnetar if the scalar field has a coupling with the Goldreich-Julian charge density or the net electron charge density of the star. The interaction of the electron with the long-range scalar profile results in a spatial variation of the electron mass. A scalar induced magnetic field is created due to such interaction. The mass of the scalar in such cases is constrained by the radius of the star. The scalar field can also radiate from a binary system or an isolated star if the mass of the scalar is less than the orbital frequency and the spin frequency respectively. The electrophilic scalar radiation can contribute to the orbital period loss of binary systems and pulsar spin-down. Comparing with existing and projected experimental sensitivities, we obtain constraints on scalar coupling with ultralight mass. Some of these bounds are stronger than the existing fifth force constraints. The constraints on the scalar coupling can be significantly screened if the scalar has a coupling with the ubiquitous cosmic neutrino background. Improvements in experimental sensitivity and observations of compact objects with stronger magnetic fields and higher angular velocities could further refine these bounds.

The unification of quantum mechanics and general relativity has long been elusive. Only recently have empirical predictions of various possible theories of quantum gravity been put to test. The dawn of multi-messenger high-energy astrophysics has been tremendously beneficial, as it allows us to study particles with much higher energies and travelling much longer distances than possible in terrestrial experiments, but more progress is needed on several fronts.
A thorough appraisal of current strategies and experimental frameworks, regarding quantum gravity phenomenology, is provided here. Our aim is twofold: a description of tentative multimessenger explorations, plus a focus on future detection experiments.
As the outlook of the network of researchers that formed through the COST Action CA18108 "Quantum gravity phenomenology in the multi-messenger approach (QG-MM)", in this work we give an overview of the desiderata that future theoretical frameworks, observational facilities, and data-sharing policies should satisfy in order to advance the cause of quantum gravity phenomenology.

In this paper, we investigate Schwarzschild-like black holes within the framework of metric-affine bumblebee gravity. We explore the implications of such a gravitational setup on various astrophysical phenomena, including the presence of an accretion disk, the deflection angle of light rays, the establishment of greybody bounds, and the propagation of neutrinos. The metric-affine bumblebee gravity theory offers a unique perspective on gravitational interactions by introducing a vector field that couples to spacetime curvature. We analyze the behavior of accretion disks around Schwarzschild-like black holes in this modified gravity scenario, considering the effects of the bumblebee field on the accretion process. Furthermore, we scrutinize the deflection angle of light rays as they traverse the gravitational field, highlighting potential deviations from standard predictions due to the underlying metric-affine structure. Investigating greybody bounds in this context sheds light on the thermal radiation emitted by black holes and how the modified gravity framework influences this phenomenon. Moreover, we explore neutrino propagation around Schwarzschild-like black holes within metric-affine bumblebee gravity, examining alterations in neutrino trajectories and interactions compared to conventional general relativity. By comprehensively probing these aspects, we aim to unravel the distinctive features and consequences of Schwarzschild-like black holes in the context of metric-affine bumblebee gravity, offering new insights into the nature of gravitational interactions and their observable signatures.

The origin of tiny neutrino mass is an unsolved puzzle leading to a variety of phenomenological aspects beyond the Standard Model (BSM). Among several interesting attempts, $U(1)$ gauge extension of Standard Model (SM) is a simple and interesting set-up where the so-called seesaw mechanism is incarnated by the addition of three generations of right-handed neutrinos followed by the breaking of $U(1)$ and electroweak symmetries. Such scenarios are anomaly free in nature appearing with a neutral BSM gauge boson ($Z^\prime$). In addition to that, there comes another open question regarding the existence of a non-luminous, hitherto unidentified object called Dark Matter (DM) originating from the measurement of its relic density. To explore properties of $Z^\prime$, we focus on chiral and flavored scenarios where $Z^\prime-$neutrinos interaction could be probed in the context of cosmic explosions like gamma-ray burst (GRB221009A, so far the highest energy), blazar (TXS 0506+056) and Active galaxy (NGC1068) respectively. The neutrino antineutrino annihilation produces electron-positron pair which could energize GRB through energy deposition. Taking the highest energy GRB under consideration and estimating the energy deposition rates we constrain $Z^\prime$ mass $(M_{Z^\prime})$ and the additional $U(1)$ coupling $(g_X)$ for chiral and flavored scenarios in the Schwarzchild, Hartle-Thorne and modified gravity frameworks. On the other hand, adding viable and alternative DM candidates in these models we study neutrino-DM scattering mediated by $Z^\prime$ in the $t-$ channel and estimate constraints on $g_X-M_{Z^\prime}$ plane using observed data of high energy neutrinos from cosmic blazar and active galaxy at the IceCube experiment. We compare our results with bounds obtained from different scattering, beam-dump and $g-2$ experiments.

The interaction of neutrinos with ultralight scalar and vector dark matter backgrounds induce a modification of the neutrino dispersion relation. The effects of this modification are reviewed in the framework of asymmetric emission of neutrinos from the supernova core, and, in turn, of pulsar kicks. We consider the neutrino oscillations, focusing in particular to active-sterile conversion. The ultralight dark matter induced neutrino dispersion relation contains a term of the form $δ{\bf Ω}\cdot \hat{\bf{p}}$, where $δ{\bf Ω}$ is related to the ultralight dark matter field and $\hat{\bf p}$ is the unit vector along the direction of neutrino momentum. The relative orientation of ${\bf p}$ with respect to $δ{\bf Ω}$ affects the mechanism for the generation of the observed pulsar velocities. We obtain the resonance condition for the active-sterile neutrino oscillation in ultralight dark matter background and calculate the star parameters in the resonance surface so that both ultralight scalar and vector dark matter backgrounds can explain the observed pulsar kicks. The asymmetric emission of neutrinos in presence of ultralight dark matter background results gravitational memory signal which can be probed from the future gravitational wave detectors such as adLIGO (advanced LIGO), adVIRGO (advanced VIRGO), DECIGO (DECi-hertz Interferometer Gravitational wave Observatory), BBO (Big Bang Observer), and ET (Einstein Telescope). We also establish a relation between the ultralight dark matter parameters and the Lorentz and CPT invariance violation parameters.

We derive in detail the orbital period loss of a compact binary system in presence of a fifth force and radiation of ultralight particles for a general eccentric Keplerian orbit. We obtain constraints on fifth force strength $α\lesssim 1.11\times 10^{-3}$ from the orbital period decay of compact binary systems. We derive constraints on the gauge coupling of ultralight scalar $(g_S\lesssim 3.06\times 10^{-20})$ and vector $(g_V\lesssim 2.29\times 10^{-20})$ particles from orbital period loss and the constraints get stronger in presence of a fifth force $(α=0.9)$. In addition, we also obtain constraints on the axion decay constant $(7.94\times 10^{10}~\rm{GeV}\lesssim f_a\lesssim 3.16\times 10^{17}~\rm{GeV}, α=0.9)$ if the orbital period decays due to the combined effects of axionic fifth force and axion radiation. We also achieve constraints on the strengths of the fifth force $(α\lesssim 0.025)$ and radiation $(β\lesssim 10^{-3})$ from GW170817. The constraints on new force parameters depend on the choice of the initial eccentricity which we include in our analysis $(ε_0=10^{-6}, 0.1)$. We do the model independent estimate of the capture of dark matter mass fraction by a binary system. Lastly, we obtain constraints on fifth force strength due to Brans-Dicke mediated scalar between two compact stars in a binary system $(ω_{\rm{BD}}>266)$ and from the Nordtvedt effect $(ω_{\rm{BD}}>75858)$. The bound on Brans-Dicke coupling gets stronger if one includes the effect of eccentricity. Our constraints can be generalized to any alternative theories of gravity and will be within the reach of second and third generation gravitational wave detectors.

The study of neutrino pair annihilation into electron-positron pairs ($ν{\bar ν}\to e^-e^+$) is astrophysically well-motivated because it is a possible powering mechanism for the gamma-ray bursts (GRBs). In this paper, we estimate the gamma-ray energy deposition rate (EDR) arising from the annihilation of the neutrino pairs in the equatorial plane of a slowly rotating black hole geometry modified by the broken Lorentz symmetry (induced by a background bumblebee vector field). More specifically, owing to the presence of a dimensionless Lorentz symmetry breaking (LSB) parameter $l$ arising from nonminimal coupling between the bumblebee field with nonzero vacuum expectation value and gravity, the metric solution in question differs from the standard slowly rotating Kerr black hole. By idealizing the thin accretion disk temperature profile in the two forms of isothermal and gradient around the bumblebee gravity-based slow rotating black hole, we investigate the influence of spontaneous LSB on the $ν{\bar ν}$-annihilation efficiency. For both profiles, we find that positive values of LSB parameter $l>0$ induce an enhancement of the EDR associated with the neutrino-antineutrino annihilation. Therefore, the process of powering the GRBs jets around bumblebee gravity modified slowly rotating geometry is more efficient in comparison with standard metric. Using the observed gamma-ray luminosity associated with different GRBs types (short, long, and ultra-long), we find, through the analysis of the EDR in the parameter space $l-a$ ($a^2\ll1$), some allowed ranges for the LSB parameter $l$.

The Hubble constant ($H_0$) tension is one of the major open problems in modern cosmology. This tension is the discrepancy, ranging from 4 to 6 $σ$, between the $H_0$ value estimated locally with the combination of Supernovae Ia (SNe Ia) + Cepheids and the cosmological $H_0$ obtained through the study of the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) radiation. The approaches adopted in Dainotti et al. 2021 (ApJ) and Dainotti et al. 2022 (Galaxies) are introduced. Through a binning division of the Pantheon sample of SNe Ia (Scolnic et al. 2018), the value of $H_0$ has been estimated in each of the redshift-ordered bins and fitted with a function lowering with the redshift. The results show a decreasing trend of $H_0$ with redshift. If this is not due to astrophysical biases or residual redshift evolution of the SNe Ia parameters, it can be explained in light of modified gravity theories, e.g., the $f(R)$ scenarios. We also briefly describe the possible impact of high-$z$ probes on the Hubble constant tension, such as Gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) and Quasars (QSOs), reported in Dainotti et al. 2022 (Galaxies) and Lenart et al. 2022 (ApJ), respectively.

Taking the ansatz $B(t)\sim t^β$ for the time evolution of the vector field we derive the relevant dynamic equations of the Universe, where $β$ is a free parameter. In particular, by employing observational data coming from the Big Bang Nucleosynthesis (BBN) and the matter-antimatter asymmetry in the Baryogenesis era, we impose some constraints on the VEV of the bumblebee timelike vector field i.e., $ξb^2$, and the exponent parameter $β$. The former and the latter limit the size of Lorentz violation, and the rate of the time evolution of the background Lorentz-violating bumblebee field, respectively.

Observations indicate that intergalactic magnetic fields have amplitudes of the order of $\sim 10^{-6}$ G and are uniform on scales of $\sim 10$ kpc. Despite their wide presence in the Universe, their origin remains an open issue. Even by invoking a dynamo mechanism or a compression effect for magnetic field amplification, the existence of seed fields before galaxy formation is still problematic. General Relativity predicts an adiabatic decrease of the magnetic field evolving as $|\mathbf{B}|\propto 1/a^{2}$, where $a$ is the scale factor of the Universe. It results in very small primordial fields, unless the conformal symmetry of the electromagnetic sector is broken. In this paper, we study the possibility that a natural mechanism for the amplification of primordial magnetic field can be related to extended teleparallel gravity $f(T, B)$ models, where $T$ is the torsion scalar, and $B$ the boundary term. In particular, we consider a non-minimal coupling with gravity in view to break conformal symmetry in a teleparallel background, investigating, in particular, the role of boundary term $B$, which can be consider as a further scalar field. We find that, after solving exactly the $f(T,B)$ field equations both in inflation and reheating eras, a non-adiabatic behavior of the magnetic field is always possible, and a strong amplification appears in the reheating epoch. We also compute the ratio $r=ρ_{B}/ ρ_γ$ between the magnetic energy density and the cosmic microwave energy density during inflation, in order to explain the present value $r\simeq 1$, showing that, in the slow-roll approximation, power-law teleparallel theories with $B^{n}$ have effects indistinguishable from metric theories $R^{n}$ where $R$ is the Ricci curvature scalar..

We investigate the modifications in the neutrino flavor oscillations under the influence of a stochastic gravitational wave background (SGWB), in a scenario in which General Relativity is modified by an additional Chern-Simons (CS) term. Assuming that the dark matter halo is in the form of axions, the CS coupling modifies the pattern of the neutrino flavor oscillations at Earth up to a total suppression in some frequency range. At the same time, the SGWB in the halo could stimulate the axion decay into gravitons over a narrow frequency range, leading to a potentially detectable resonance peak in the enhanced SGWB strain. A consistent picture would require these features to potentially show up in neutrino detection from supernovae, gravitational wave detectors, and experiments aimed at the search for axions in the Milky Way halo.

Recently, fast magnetic reconnection (MR) of the magnetic field was proposed as a new way to extract energy and in this paper, we investigate this phenomena in a bumblebee Kerr-Sen BH. We find that the presence of the charge parameter strongly changes the simple Kerr case, making this extraction mechanism possible even for not extremely rotating black holes ($a \sim 0.7$). We also show that, under appropriate circumstances, MR is more efficient compared to the Blandford-Znajek mechanism. We finally compare these results with quintessence black-hole solutions not finding and enhancement respect to Kerr solution.

In this paper we employ a recent proposal of C. Tsallis and formulate the first law of thermodynamics for gravitating systems in terms of the extensive but non-additive entropy. We pay a particular attention to an integrating factor for the heat one-form and show that in contrast to conventional thermodynamics it factorizes into thermal and entropic part. Ensuing first law of thermodynamics implies Tsallis cosmology, which is then subsequently used to address the observed discrepancy between current bound on the Dark Matter relic abundance and present IceCube data on high-energy neutrinos. To resolve this contradiction we keep the conventional minimal Yukawa-type interaction between standard model and Dark Matter particles but replace the usual Friedmann field equations with Tsallis-cosmology-based modified Friedmann equations. We show that when the Tsallis scaling exponent $δ\sim 1.57$ (or equivalently, the holographic scaling exponent $α\sim 3.13$) the aforementioned discrepancy disappears.

We investigate for viable models of inflation that can successfully produce dark matter (DM) from inflaton decay process, satisfying all the constraints from Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) and from some other observations. In particular, we analyze near-inflection-point small field inflationary scenario with non-thermal production of fermionic DM from the decaying inflaton field during the reheating era. To this end, we propose two different models of inflation with polynomial potential. The potential of Model I contains terms proportional to linear, quadratic, and quartic in inflaton; whereas in Model II, the potential contains only even power of inflaton and the highest term is sextic in inflaton. For both the models, we find out possible constraints on the model parameters which lead to proper inflationary parameters from CMB data with a very small tensor-to-scalar ratio, as expected from a small-field model. With the allowed parameter space from CMB, we then search for satisfactory relic abundance for DM, that can be produced from inflaton via reheating, to match with the present-day cold dark matter (CDM) relic density for the parameter spaces of the DM $χ$ mass and Yukawa couplings in the range $10^{-9} \gtrsim y_χ \gtrsim 10^{-15}$ and $10^3 \text{GeV} \lesssim m_χ \lesssim 10^9 \text{GeV}$. The DM relic is associated with the inflection-points in each model via maximum temperature reached in the early universe during its production. Thanks to unparalleled near-horizon images of the shadows of Messier 87* (M87*) and Sagittarius A* (Sgr A*) delivered by the Event Horizon Telescope (EHT), two amazing windows opened up to us for the strong-field test of the gravity theories as well as fundamental physics. Information recently published from EHT about the Sgr A*'s shadow lets us have a novel possibility of exploration of Lorentz symmetry violation (LSV) within the Standard-Model Extension (SME) framework. Despite the agreement between the shadow image of Sgr A* and the prediction of the general theory of relativity, there is still a slight difference which is expected to be fixed by taking some fundamental corrections into account. We bring up the idea that the recent inferred shadow image of Sgr A* is explicable by a minimal SME-inspired Schwarzschild metric containing the Lorentz violating (LV) terms obtained from the post-Newtonian approximation. The LV terms embedded in Schwarzschild metric are dimensionless spatial coefficients ${\bar s}^{jk}$ associated with the field responsible for LSV in the gravitational sector of the minimal SME theory. In this way, one can control Lorentz invariance violation in the allowed sensitivity level of the first shadow image of Sgr A*. Actually, using the bounds released within $1σ$ uncertainty for the shadow size of Sgr A* and whose fractional deviation from standard Schwarzschild, we set upper limits for the two different combinations of spatial diagonal coefficients and the time-time coefficient of the SME, as well. The best upper bound is at the $10^{-2}$ level, which should be interpreted differently from those constraints previously extracted from well-known frameworks since unlike standard SME studies it is not obtained from a Sun-centered celestial frame but comes from probing the black hole horizon scale.

We find that JUNO will be able to give severe constraints on the cross section of DM annihilating into neutrinos and on the lifetime of DM decaying into neutrinos. More concretely, with $20$ years of data-taking in the fiducial volume $17$ kton, the cross section will be constrained smaller than $4\times 10^{-26}\,{\rm cm^{3}\,sec^{-1}}$ for the mass of a DM particle $15\,{\rm MeV} \lesssim m_χ \lesssim 50\,{\rm MeV}$ at $90\,\%$ C.L., which might be strong enough to test thermal production mechanism of DM particles for such range of DM mass. The lifetime will be constrained as strong as $1\times 10^{24}\,{\rm sec}$ for the mass of a DM particle $m_χ \simeq 100\,{\rm MeV}$ at $90\,\%$ C.L..

When applied to gravity, this idea produces effective actions generically containing a running Newtonian coupling constant, from which new (spherically symmetric) black hole spacetimes can be inferred. As a minimum useful requirement, of course, the new metrics should match with a Schwarzschild field at large radial coordinate. By further imposing to the new scale dependent metric the simple request of matching with the Donoghue quantum corrected potential, we find a not yet explored black hole spacetime, which naturally turns out to describe the so-called Planck stars.

The mismatch between different independent measurements of the expansion rate of the Universe is known as the Hubble constant ($H_0$) tension, and it is a serious and pressing problem in cosmology. We investigate this tension considering the dataset from the Pantheon sample, a collection of 1048 Type Ia Supernovae (SNe Ia) with a redshift range $0<z<2.26$. We perform a binned analysis in redshift to study if the $H_0$ tension also occurs in SNe Ia data. Hence, we build equally populated subsamples in three and four bins, and we estimate $H_{0}$ in each bin considering the $Λ$CDM and $w_{0}w_{a}$CDM cosmological models. We perform a statistical analysis via a Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) method for each bin. We observe that $H_0$ evolves with the redshift, using a fit function $H_{0}(z)=\tilde{H}_{0} (1+z)^{-α}$ with two fitting parameters $α$ and $\tilde{H}_{0}$. Our results show a decreasing behavior of $H_0$ with $α\sim 10^{-2}$ and a consistency with no evolution between 1.2 $σ$ and 2.0 $σ$. Considering the $H_0$ tension, we extrapolate $H_{0}(z)$ until the redshift of the last scattering surface, $z=1100$, obtaining values of $H_0$ consistent in 1 $σ$ with the cosmic microwave background (CMB) measurements by Planck. Finally, we discuss possible $f(R)$ modified gravity models to explain a running Hubble constant with the redshift, and we infer the form of the scalar field potential in the dynamically equivalent Jordan frame.

The difference from 4 to 6 $σ$ in the Hubble constant ($H_0$) between the values observed with the local (Cepheids and Supernovae Ia, SNe Ia) and the high-z probes (CMB obtained by the Planck data) still challenges the astrophysics and cosmology community. Previous analysis has shown that there is an evolution in the Hubble constant that scales as $f(z)=\mathcal{H}_{0}/(1+z)^η$, where $\mathcal{H}_0$ is $H_{0}(z=0)$ and $η$ is the evolutionary parameter. Here, we investigate if this evolution still holds by using the SNe Ia gathered in the Pantheon sample and the BAOs. We assume $H_{0}=70 \textrm{km s}^{-1}\textrm{Mpc}^{-1}$ as the local value and divide the Pantheon into 3 bins ordered in increasing values of redshift. Similar to our previous analysis but varying two cosmological parameters contemporaneously ($H_0$, $Ω_{0m}$ in the $Λ$CDM model and $H_0$, $w_a$ in the $w_{0}w_{a}$CDM model), for each bin we implement a MCMC analysis obtaining the value of $H_0$ $[...]$. Subsequently, the values of $H_0$ are fitted with the model $f(z)$. Our results show that a decreasing trend with $η\sim10^{-2}$ is still visible in this sample. The $η$ coefficient reaches zero in 2.0 $σ$ for the $Λ$CDM model up to 5.8 $σ$ for $w_{0}w_{a}$CDM model. This trend, if not due to statistical fluctuations, could be explained through a hidden astrophysical bias, such as the effect of stretch evolution, or it requires new theoretical models, a possible proposition is the modified gravity theories, $f(R)$ $[...]$. This work is also a preparatory to understand how the combined probes still show an evolution of the $H_0$ by redshift and what is the current status of simulations on GRB cosmology to obtain the uncertainties on the $Ω_{0m}$ comparable with the ones achieved through SNe Ia.

In addition, in some cases of invisible neutrino decay into lighter neutrinos in the Standard Model and invisible particles, we can constrain not only the neutrino lifetime but also the masses of the invisible particles. For this purpose, we also formulate the energy spectra of the lighter neutrinos produced by 2-body and 3-body decays, and those of the electrons emitted in the process of the detection of the lighter neutrinos.

The first-order phase transitions in the early Universe are one of the well-known sources which release the stochastic background of gravitational waves. In this paper, we study the contribution of an external static and strong magnetic field on the stochastic background of gravitational waves (GWs) expected during QCD phase transition. In the light of the strongly magnetized hot QCD equation of state which deviated from the ideal gas up to the one-loop approximation, we estimate two phenomenologically important quantities: peak frequency redshifted to today ($f_{\rm peak}$) and GW strain amplitude ($h^2 Ω_{gw}$). The trace anomaly induced by the magnetized hot QCD matter around the phase transition generates the stochastic background of GW with peak frequencies lower than the ideal gas-based signal (around nHz). Instead, the strain amplitudes corresponding to the peak frequencies are of the same order of magnitude of the expected signal from ideal gas. This may be promising in the sense that although the strong magnetic field could mask the expected stochastic background of GWs by upgrading the frequency sensitivity of detectors in the future, the magnetized GW is expected to be identified. Faced with the projected reach of detectors EPTA, IPTA, and SKA, we find that for the tail of the magnetized GW signals there remains a mild possibility of detection as it can reach the projected sensitivity of SKA.

Thanks to the release of the extraordinary EHT image of shadow attributed to the M87* supermassive black hole (SMBH), we have a novel window to assess the validity of fundamental physics in the strong-field regime. Motivated by this, we consider Johannsen \& Psaltis metric parameterized by mass, spin, and an additional dimensionless hair parameter $ε$. This parametric framework in the high rotation regimes provides a well-behaved bed to the strong-gravity test of the no-hair theorem (NHT) using the EHT data. Incorporating the $ε$ into the standard Kerr spacetime enrich it in the sense that, depending on setting the positive and negative values for that, we deal with alternative compact objects: deformed Kerr naked singularity and Kerr BH solutions, respectively. Shadows associated with these two possible solutions indicate that the deformation parameter $ε$ affects the geometry shape of standard shadow such that it becomes more oblate and prolate with $ε<0$ and $ε>0$, respectively. By scanning the window associated with three shadow observables oblateness, deviation from circularity, and shadow diameter, we perform a numerical analysis within the range $a_*=0.9\mp0.1$ of the dimensionless rotation parameter, to find the constraints on the hair parameter $ε$ in both possible solutions. For both possible signs of $ε$, we extract a variety of upper bounds that are in interplay with $a_*$. Although by approaching the rotation parameters to the extreme limit, the allowable range of both hair parameters becomes narrower, the hairy Kerr BH solution is a more promising candidate to play the role of the alternative compact object instead of the standard Kerr BH. The lack of tension between hairy Kerr BH with the current observation of the EHT shadow of the M87* SMBH carries this message that there is the possibility of NHT violation.

We consider a model with a scalar field (describing screening effects) conformally coupled to matter and neutrinos. The presence of screening effects suppresses the neutrino spin-flip probability as compared with General Relativity predictions. Such a result could be used, combined with neutrino astronomy, for testing modified theories of gravity and, in turn, screening effects invoked to bypass the solar system and Lab tests. Such an analysis has been also extended to the case of the quintessence field surrounding a black hole. The Hubble constant ($H_0$) tension between Type Ia Supernovae (SNe Ia) and Planck measurements ranges from 4 to 6 $σ$. To investigate this tension, we estimate $H_{0}$ in the $Λ$CDM and $w_{0}w_{a}$CDM models by dividing the Pantheon sample, the largest compilation of SNe Ia, into 3, 4, 20 and 40 bins. We fit the extracted $H_{0}$ values with a function mimicking the redshift evolution: $g(z)={H_0}(z)=\tilde{H}_0/(1+z)^α$, where $α$ indicates an evolutionary parameter and $\tilde{H}_0=H_0$ at $z=0$. We set the absolute magnitude of SNe Ia so that $H_0=73.5\,\, \textrm{km s}^{-1}\,\textrm{Mpc}^{-1}$, and we fix fiducial values for $Ω_{0m}^{ΛCDM}=0.298$ and $Ω_{0m}^{w_{0}w_{a}CDM}=0.308$.
We find that $H_0$ evolves with redshift, showing a slowly decreasing trend, with $α$ coefficients consistent with zero only from 1.2 to 2.0 $σ$. Although the $α$ coefficients are compatible with 0 in 3 $σ$, this however may affect cosmological results. We measure locally a variation of $H_0(z=0)-H_0(z=1)=0.4\, \textrm{km s}^{-1}\,\textrm{Mpc}^{-1}$ in 3 and 4 bins. Extrapolating ${H_0}(z)$ to $z=1100$, the redshift of the last scattering surface, we obtain values of $H_0$ compatible in 1 $σ$ with Planck measurements independently of cosmological models and number of bins we investigated. Thus, we have reduced the $H_0$ tension from $54\%$ to $72\%$ for the $Λ$CDM and $w_{0}w_{a}$CDM models, respectively. If the decreasing trend of $H_0(z)$ is real, it could be due to astrophysical selection effects or to modified gravity.

In particular, we consider $f(R)$ gravity, the most natural extension of the Hilbert-Einstein action, and $f(\cal T)$ gravity, the extension of teleparallel equivalent gravity. Since in these theories the expansion laws of the Universe are modified, as compared to the standard $Λ$CDM cosmology, it follows that also the thermal history of particles gets modified. We show that $f(R)$ models allow to avoid the late abundance of gravitinos. In particular, we found that for an appropriate choice of the parameters characterizing the $f(R)$ model, the gravitino abundance turns out to be independent of the reheating temperature. A similar behavior is achieved also in the context of $f(\cal T)$ gravity. In this perspective, we can conclude that geometric corrections to standard General Relativity (and to Teleparallel Equivalent of General Relativity) can improve shortcomings both in cosmology and in unified theories beyond the Standard Model of particles.

The effect of the latter is to increase the minimum photon-sphere radius ($R_{ph}$), increasing in such a way the maximum energy deposition rate near to $R_{ph}$. The rate turns out to be several orders of magnitude greater than the rate computed in the framework of General Relativity. These results might provide an efficient mechanism for the generation of GRBs and lead to constraints on the parameters of the quintessence model.

Actually, the more we have investigated, the more this issue has become strongly entangled with aspects that go beyond the established Quantum Physics, the Standard Model of Elementary particles and the General Relativity and related to processes like the Inflation, the accelerated expansion of the Universe and High Energy Phenomena around compact objects. Even Quantum Gravity and very exotic DM particle candidates may play a role in framing the Dark Matter mystery that seems to be accomplice of new unknown Physics. Observations and experiments have clearly indicated that the above phenomenon cannot be considered as already theoretically framed, as hoped for decades. The Special Topic to which this review belongs wants to penetrate this newly realized mystery from different angles, including that of a contamination of different fields of Physics apparently unrelated. We show with the works of this ST that this contamination is able to guide us into the required new Physics. This review wants to provide a good number of these "paths or contamination" beyond/among the three worlds above; in most of the cases, the results presented here open a direct link with the multi-scale dark matter phenomenon, enlightening some of its important aspects. Also in the remaining cases, possible interesting contacts emerges.

We focus on viable $f(T)$ teleparallel cosmological models, namely power law, exponential and square-root exponential, carrying out a detailed study of their evolution at all scales. Indeed, these models were extensively analysed in the light of late time measurements, while it is possible to find only upper limits looking at the very early time behavior, i.e. satisfying the Big Bang Nucleosynthesis (BBN) data on primordial abundance of ${}^4He$. Starting from these indications, we perform our analysis considering both background and linear perturbations evolution and constrain, beyond the standard six cosmological parameters, the free parameters of $f(T)$ models in both cases whether the BBN consistency relation is considered or not. We use a combination of Cosmic Microwave Background, Baryon Acoustic Oscillation, Supernovae Ia and galaxy clustering measurements, and find that very narrow constraints on the free parameters of specific $f(T)$ cosmology can be obtained, beyond any previous precision. While no degeneration is found between the helium fraction, $Y_P$, and the free parameter of $f(T)$, we note that these models constrain the current Hubble parameter, $H_0$, {higher extent than the standard model} one, fully compatible with the Riess et al. measurement in the case of power law $f(T)$ model. Moreover, the free parameters are constrained at non-zero values in more than 3-$σ$, showing a preference of the observations for extended gravity models.

Thus, when dealing with electrodynamics in this context, the possibility may arise to probe nonlinear theories. The Einstein field equations minimally coupled to an arbitrary nonlinear Lagrangian of electrodynamics are solved in the regime of slow rotation, i.e. $a << M$ (black hole's mass), up to first order in $a/M$. We use Born-Infeld Lagrangian to compare the obtained results with Maxwellian counterpart. We focus on the astrophysics of neutrino flavor oscillations ($ν_e\toν_{μ, τ}$) and spin-flip ($ν_L\toν_R$), as well as on the computation of that the electron fraction $Y_e$, hence the r-processes, which may significantly differ with respect to the standard electrodynamics.

We propose a high precision satellite experiment to further test Einstein's General Relativity and constrain extended theories of gravity. We consider the frequency shift of a photon radially exchanged between two observers located on Earth and on a satellite in circular orbit in the equatorial plane. In General Relativity there exists a peculiar satellite-distance at which the static contribution to the frequency shift vanishes since the effects induced by pure gravity and special relativity compensate, while it can be non-zero in modified gravities, like in models with screening mechanisms. As an experimental device placed on the satellite we choose a system of hydrogen atoms which can exhibit the $1$s spin-flip transition from the singlet (unaligned proton-electron spins) to the triplet (aligned proton-electron spins) state induced by the absorption of photons at $21.1$cm. The observation of an excited state would indicate that the frequency of the emitted and absorbed photon remains unchanged according to General Relativity. On the contrary, a non-zero frequency shift, as predicted in extended theories of gravity, would prevent the spin-flip transition and the hydrogen atoms from jumping into the excited state. Such a detection would signify a smoking-gun signature of new physics beyond special and general relativity.

To explain the high-energy astrophysical neutrino flux with energies $\sim PeV$ recently observed by IceCube collaboration and the relic abundance of DM in the Universe, we consider the minimal 4-dimensional operator $\sim y_{αχ}\overline{L_{L_α}}\, H\, χ$. The cosmological background is assumed to evolve according to $f({\cal T})$ cosmology, where ${\cal T}$ is the scalar torsion.

We analyze axion--photon mixing in the framework of quantum field theory. The condensate structure of the vacuum for mixed fields induces corrections to the oscillation formulae and leads to non-zero energy of the vacuum for the component of the photon mixed with the axion. This energy generates a new effect of the vacuum polarization and it has the state equation of the cosmological constant, $w = -1$. This result holds for any homogeneous and isotropic curved space-time, as well as for diagonal metrics. Numerical estimates of the corrections to the oscillation formulae are presented by considering the intensity of the magnetic field available in the laboratory. Moreover, we estimate the vacuum energy density induced by axion--photon mixing in the Minkowski space-time. A value compatible with that of the energy density of the universe can be obtained for axions with a mass of $(10^{-3}-10^{-2}) eV$ in the presence of the strong magnetic fields that characterize astrophysical objects such as pulsars or neutron stars. In addition, a value of the energy density less than that of the Casimir effect is obtained for magnetic fields used in experiments such as PVLAS. The vacuum polarization induced by this energy could be detected in next experiments and it might provide an indirect proof of the existence of the axion--photon mixing. The quantum field theory effects presented in this work may lead to new methods for studying axion-like particles.

We analyze possible violations of the Equivalence Principle in scalar-tensor gravity at finite temperature $T.$ Before we present an approach where the Equivalence Principle violation is achieved within the framework of Quantum Field Theory. After, we rely on an alternative approach first proposed by Gasperini, which leads to the same outcome obtained in the framework of Quantum Field Theory (one-loop corrections) at finite $T$. Finally, we exhibit the application of the above formalism both to a generic diagonal metric, cast in spherical coordinates, and to the Brans-Dicke theory. In the last case, we show that it is possible to put a significant constraint on the free parameter of the theory by means of experimental bounds on the Equivalence Principle.

The detection of stochastic background of gravitational waves (GWs), produced by cosmological phase transitions (PTs), is of fundamental importance because allows to probe the physics related to PT energy scales. Motivated by the decisive role of non-zero quark chemical potential towards understanding physics in the core of neutron stars, quark stars and heavy-ion collisions, in this paper we qualitatively explore the stochastic background of GW spectrum generated by a cosmological source such as high-density QCD first order PT during the early Universe. Specifically, we calculate the frequency peak $f_{peak}$ redshifted at today time and the fractional energy density $Ω_{gw}h^2$ in light of equation-of-state improved by the finite quark (baryon) chemical potential (we consider an effective three flavor chiral quarks model of QCD). Our calculations reveal a striking increase in $f_{peak}$ and $Ω_{gw}h^2$ due to the quark chemical potential, which means to improve the chances of detection, in possible future observations (in particular SKA/PTA experiments), of the stochastic background of GWs from QCD first order PT. Even if the improvements could be weak, by updating the sensitivity of relevant detectors in the future, we can still remain hopeful. Concerning the phenomenological contribution of QCD equation-of-state, and in particular the possibility to detect a stochastic GW signal, we further show that the role of the quark chemical potential is model-dependent. This feature allows to discriminate among possible QCD effective models depending on their capability to shed light on the dynamic of QCD-PT through future observations of primordial GWs. In this perspective, the results are indeed encouraging to employ the GWs to study the QCD PT in high density strong interaction matter.

In Einstein's theory of general relativity the vacuum solution yields a blackhole with a curvature singularity, where there exists a point-like source with a Dirac delta distribution which is introduced as a boundary condition in the static case. It has been known for a while that ghost-free infinite derivative theory of gravity can ameliorate such a singularity at least at the level of linear perturbation around the Minkowski background. In this paper, we will show that the Schwarzschild metric does not satisfy the boundary condition at the origin within infinite derivative theory of gravity, since a Dirac delta source is smeared out by non-local gravitational interaction. We will also show that the spacetime metric becomes conformally-flat and singularity-free within the non-local region, which can be also made devoid of an event horizon. Furthermore, the scale of non-locality ought to be as large as that of the Schwarzschild radius, in such a way that the gravitational potential in any metric has to be always bounded by one, implying that gravity remains weak from the infrared all the way up to the ultraviolet regime, in concurrence with the results obtained in [arXiv:1707.00273]. The singular Schwarzschild blackhole can now be potentially replaced by a non-singular compact object, whose core is governed by the mass and the effective scale of non-locality.

The discovery by the IceCube experiment of a high-energy astrophysical neutrino flux with energies of the order of PeV, has opened new scenarios in astroparticles physics. A possibility to explain this phenomenon is to consider the minimal models of Dark Matter (DM) decay, the 4-dimensional operator $\sim y_{αχ}\overline{L_{L_α}}\, H\, χ$, which is also able to generate the correct abundance of DM in the Universe.
Assuming that the cosmological background evolves according to the standard cosmological model, it follows that the rate of DM decay $Γ_χ\sim |y_{αχ}|^2$ needed to get the correct DM relic abundance ($Γ_χ\sim 10^{-58}$) differs by many orders of magnitude with respect that one needed to explain the IceCube data ($Γ_χ\sim 10^{-25}$), making the four-dimensional operator unsuitable. In this paper we show that assuming that the early Universe evolution is governed by a modified cosmology, the discrepancy between the two the DM decay rates can be reconciled, and both the IceCube neutrino rate and relic density can be explained in a minimal model.

We study two models, (1) Hu-Sawicki(HS) Model of $f(R)$ gravity and (2) Chavallier-Polarski-Linder(CPL) parametrization of dynamical dark energy (DDE), both of which satisfy the constraints from supernovae. We compute $σ_8$ consistent with the parameters of these models. We find that the well known tension in $σ_8$ between Planck CMB and large scale structure (LSS) observations is (1) exacerbated in the HS model and (2) somewhat alleviated in the DDE model. We illustrate the importance of the $σ_8$ measurements for testing modified gravity models. Modified gravity models change the matter power spectrum at cluster scale which also depends upon the neutrino mass. We present the bound on neutrino mass in the HS and DDE model.

Even though, it is difficult to realise inflationary paradigm in a particle physics model as the present observations have ruled out the simplest quartic and quadratic inflationary potentials, which generically arise in particle physics. We would show that such simplest inflationary potentials can evade discrepancies with observations, if the inflaton field is assisted by another scalar during inflation. Moreover, unlike other multifield models, our model yields no isocurvature perturbations and negligible non-Gaussianity, making it more compatible with the present data. Above all, our model can also be realised in the framework of SUGRA.
