Abstract:
We present long-term photometric observations of the young open cluster IC 348 with a baseline time-scale of 2.4 yr. Our study was conducted with several telescopes from the Young Exoplanet Transit Initiative (YETI) network in the Bessel $R$ band to find periodic variability of young stars. We present long-term photometric observations of the young open cluster IC 348 with a baseline time-scale of 2.4 yr. Our study was conducted with several telescopes from the Young Exoplanet Transit Initiative (YETI) network in the Bessel $R$ band to find periodic variability of young stars. We identified 87 stars in IC 348 to be periodically variable; 33 of them were unreported before. Additionally, we detected 61 periodic non-members of which 41 are new discoveries. Our wide field of view was the key to those numerous newly found variable stars. The distribution of rotation periods in IC 348 has always been of special interest. We investigate it further with our newly detected periods but we cannot find a statistically significant bimodality. We also report the detection of a close eclipsing binary in IC 348 composed of a low-mass stellar component ($M \gtrsim 0.09\,\mathrm{M}_{\odot}$) and a K0 pre-main sequence star ($M \approx 2.7\,\mathrm{M}_{\odot}$). Furthermore, we discovered three detached binaries among the background stars in our field of view and confirmed the period of a fourth one.

We report results of the first five observing campaigns for the open stellar cluster NGC 7243 in the frame of project Young Exoplanet Transit Initiative (YETI). The project focuses on the monitoring of young and nearby stellar clusters, with the aim to detect young transiting exoplanets, and to study other variability phenomena on time-scales from minutes to years. After five observing campaigns and additional observations during 2013 and 2014, a clear and repeating transit-like signal was detected in the light curve of J221550.6+495611. Furthermore, we detected and analysed 37 new eclipsing binary stars in the studied region. The best fit parameters and light curves of all systems are given. Finally, we detected and analysed 26 new, presumably pulsating variable stars in the studied region. The follow-up investigation of these objects, including spectroscopic measurements of the exoplanet candidate, is currently planned.

As part of our ongoing effort to investigate transit timing variations (TTVs) of known exoplanets, we monitored transits of the four exoplanets HAT-P-18b, HAT-P-19b, HAT-P-27b/WASP-40b and WASP-21b. All of them are suspected to show TTVs due to the known properties of their host systems based on the respective discovery papers. During the past three years 46 transit observations were carried out, mostly using telescopes of the Young Exoplanet Transit Initiative. The analyses are used to refine the systems orbital parameters. In all cases we found no hints for significant TTVs, or changes in the system parameters inclination, fractional stellar radius and planet to star radius ratio. However, comparing our results with those available in the literature shows that we can confirm the already published values.

We present first results of a long term study: Searching for OB--type runaway stars inside supernova remnants (SNRs). We identified spectral types and measured radial velocities (RV) by optical spectroscopic observations and we found an early type runaway star inside SNR S147. HD 37424 is a B0.5V type star with a peculiar velocity of 74$\pm$8 km s$^{-1}$. Tracing back the past trajectories via Monte Carlo simulations, we found that HD 37424 was located at the same position as the central compact object, PSR J0538+2817, $30\!\pm\!4$ kyr ago. This position is only $\sim$4 arcmin away from the geometrical center of the SNR. So, we suggest that HD 37424 was the pre--supernova binary companion to the progenitor of the pulsar and the SNR. We found a distance of 1333$^{+103}_{-112}$ pc to the SNR. The zero age main sequence progenitor mass should be greater than 13 $M_\odot$. The age is $30\pm4$ kyr and the total visual absorption towards the center is 1.28$\pm$0.06 mag. For different progenitor masses, we calculated the pre--supernova binary parameters. The Roche Lobe radii suggest that it was an interacting binary in the late stages of the progenitor.

We report our investigation of the first transiting planet candidate from the YETI project in the young (~4 Myr old) open cluster Trumpler 37. The transit-like signal detected in the lightcurve of the F8V star 2M21385603+5711345 repeats every 1.364894+/-0.000015 days, and has a depth of 54.5+/-0.8 mmag in R. Membership to the cluster is supported by its mean radial velocity and location in the color-magnitude diagram, while the Li diagnostic and proper motion are inconclusive in this regard. Follow-up photometric monitoring and adaptive optics imaging allow us to rule out many possible blend scenarios, but our radial-velocity measurements show it to be an eclipsing single-lined spectroscopic binary with a late-type (mid-M) stellar companion, rather than one of planetary nature. The estimated mass of the companion is 0.15-0.44 solar masses. The search for planets around very young stars such as those targeted by the YETI survey remains of critical importance to understand the early stages of planet formation and evolution.

We aim to identify the birth place of the young pulsar PSR J0826+2637 in order to determine its kinematic age and give constraints on its radial and spatial (kick) velocity. Since the majority of neutron star (NS) progenitors are in associations or clusters, we search for a possible origin of the NS inside such stellar groups. We trace back the NS and the centres of possible birth associations and clusters to find close encounters. The kinematic age is then given by the time since the encounter. We use Monte Carlo simulations to account for observational uncertainties and the unknown radial velocity of the NS. We evaluate the outcome statistically. In order to find further indication for our findings, we also search for a runaway star that could be the former companion if it exists. We find that PSR J0826+2637 was probably born in the small young cluster Stock 7 ~3 Myr ago. This result is supported by the identification of the former companion candidate HIP 13962 (runaway star with spectral type G0Ia). The scenario predicts a near-zero radial velocity of the pulsar implying an inclination angle of its motion to the line-of-sight of 87+/-11 deg. We also present the chemical abundances of HIP 13962. We do not find enhanced alpha element abundances in the highly evolved star. However, the binary supernova scenario may be supported by the overabundance of r-process elements that could have been ejected during the supernova and accreted by the runaway star. Also, a high rotational velocity of v sin i ~29 km/s of HIP 13962 is consistent with evolution in a pre-SN binary system.
