The dominant annihilation process, for the DM particle is through the $B-L$ symmetry breaking scalar to right-handed neutrino pair. We exploit the effect of decay and inverse decay of the right-handed neutrino in thermal relic abundance of the DM. Depending on the values of the decay rate, the DM relic density can be significantly different from what is obtained in the standard calculation assuming the right-handed neutrino is in thermal equilibrium and there appear different regions of the parameter space satisfying the observed DM relic density. For a DM mass less than $\mathcal{O}$(TeV), the direct detection experiments impose a competitive bound on the mass of the $U(1)_{B-L}$ gauge boson $Z^\prime$ with the collider experiments. Utilizing the non-observation of the displaced vertices arising from the right-handed neutrino decays, bound on the mass of $Z^\prime$ has been obtained at present and higher luminosities at the LHC with 14 TeV centre of mass energy where an integrated luminosity of 100fb$^{-1}$ is sufficient to probe $m_{Z'} \sim 5.5$ TeV.

We present a study of the Very Degenerate Higgsino Dark Matter (DM), whose mass splitting between the lightest neutral and charged components is ${\cal O}$(1) MeV, much smaller than radiative splitting of 355 MeV. The scenario is realized in the minimal supersymmetric standard model by small gaugino mixing. In contrast to the pure Higgsino DM with the radiative splitting only, various observable signatures with distinct features are induced. First of all, the very small mass splitting makes (a) sizable Sommerfeld enhancement and Ramsauer-Townsend (RT) suppression relevant to ~1 TeV Higgsino DM, and (b) Sommerfeld-Ramsauer-Townsend effect saturate at lower velocities $v/c \lesssim 10^{-3}$. As a result, annihilation signals can be large enough to be observed from the galactic center and/or dwarf galaxies, while relative signal sizes can vary depending on the location of Sommerfeld peaks and RT dips. In addition, at collider experiments, stable chargino signature can be searched for to probe the model in the future. DM direct detection signal, however, depends on the Wino mass; even no detectable signal can be induced if the Wino is heavier than about 10 TeV.

We propose a new mechanism to suppress the axion isocurvature perturbation, while producing the right amount of axion dark matter, within the framework of supersymmetric axion models with the axion scale induced by supersymmetry breaking. The mechanism involves an intermediate phase transition to generate the Higgs μ-parameter, before which the weak scale is comparable to the axion scale and the resulting stronger QCD yields an axion mass heavier than the Hubble scale over a certain period. Combined with that the Hubble-induced axion scale during the primordial inflation is well above the intermediate axion scale at present, the stronger QCD in the early Universe suppresses the axion fluctuation to be small enough even when the inflationary Hubble scale saturates the current upper bound, while generating an axion misalignment angle of order unity.

We examine mixed axion/neutralino cold dark matter production in the SUSY DFSZ axion model where an axion superfield couples to Higgs superfields. We calculate a wide array of axino and saxion decay modes along with their decay temperatures, and thermal and non-thermal production rates. For a SUSY benchmark model with a standard underabundance (SUA) of Higgsino-like dark matter (DM), we find for the PQ scale f_a< 10^{12} GeV that the DM abundance is mainly comprised of axions as the saxion/axino decay occurs before the standard neutralino freeze-out and thus its abundance remains suppressed. For 10^{12}<~ f_a<~ 10^{14} GeV, the saxion/axino decays occur after neutralino freeze-out so that the neutralino abundance is enhanced by the production via decay and subsequent re-annihilation. For f_a>~ 10^{14} GeV, both neutralino dark matter and dark radiation are typically overproduced. For judicious parameter choices, these can be suppressed and the combined neutralino/axion abundance brought into accord with measured values. A SUSY benchmark model with a standard overabundance (SOA) of bino DM is also examined and typically remains excluded due at least to too great a neutralino DM abundance for f_a<~ 10^{15} GeV. For f_a>~ 10^{15} GeV and lower saxion masses, large entropy production from saxion decay can dilute all relics and the SOA model can be allowed by all constraints.

We revisit a single field inflationary model based on Coleman-Weinberg potentials. We show that in small field Coleman-Weinberg inflation, the observed amplitude of perturbations needs an extremely small quartic coupling of the inflaton, which might be a signature of radiative origin. However, the spectral index obtained in a standard cosmological scenario turns out to be outside the 2 sigma region of the Planck data. When a non-standard cosmological framework is invoked, such as brane-world cosmology in the Randall-Sundrum model, the spectral index can be made consistent with Planck data within 1 sigma, courtesy of the modification in the evolution of the Hubble parameter in such a scheme. We also show that the required inflaton quartic coupling as well as a phenomenologically viable B-L symmetry breaking together with a natural electroweak symmetry breaking can arise dynamically in a generalized B-L extension of the Standard Model where the full potential is assumed to vanish at a high scale.

We discuss asymmetric or symmetric dark matter candidate in the supersymmetric Dirac leptogenesis scenario. By introducing a singlet superfield coupling to right-handed neutrinos, the overabundance problem of dark matter can be evaded and various possibilities for dark matter candidate arise. If the singlino is the lightest supersymmetric particle (LSP), it becomes naturally asymmetric dark matter. On the other hand, the right-handed sneutrino is a symmetric dark matter candidate whose relic density can be determined by the usual thermal freeze-out process. The conventional neutralino or gravitino LSP can be also a dark matter candidate as its non-thermal production from the right-handed sneutrino can be controlled appropriately. In our scenario, the late-decay of heavy supersymmetric particles mainly produce the right-handed sneutrino and neutrino which is harmless to the standard prediction of the big-bang nucleosynthesis.

We discuss the non-perturbative effects on the annihilation cross section of an Electro-Weak Dark Matter (EWDM) particle belonging to an electroweak multiplet when the splittings between the masses of the DM component and the other charged or neutral component(s) of the multiplet are treated as free parameters. Our analysis shows that EWDM exhibits not only the usual Sommerfeld enhancement with resonance peaks but also dips where the cross section is suppressed. Moreover, we have shown that the non-perturbative effects become important even when the EWDM mass is below the TeV scale, provided that some of the mass splitting are reduced to the order of a few MeV. This extends the possibility of observing sizeable non-perturbative effects in the dark matter annihilation to values of the dark matter mass significantly smaller than previously considered, since only electroweak--induced mass splittings larger than 100 MeV have been discussed in the literature so far. We have then used the available experimental data on the cosmic antiproton flux to constrain the EWDM parameter space. In our calculation of the expected signal we have included the effect of the convolution of the cross section with the velocity distribution of the dark matter particles in the Galaxy, showing that it can alter the non--perturbative effects significantly. In the case of EWDM with non-zero hypercharge, we have shown that the mass splitting in the Dirac dark matter fermion can be chosen so that the inelastic cross section of the EWDM off nuclei is allowed by present direct detection constraints and at the same time is within the reach of future experiments.

We study the cosmological impact of the supersymmetric DFSZ axion model. Extending recent works, we first provide a comprehensive analysis of thermal production of the DFSZ axino considering all the possible scattering, decay and inverse decay processes depending on various mass parameters and the reheat temperature. Although it is hard for the DFSZ axino to be in thermal equilibrium, its coupling is still large enough to generate huge axino population which can turn into overabundant neutralino density. We examine the neutralino parameter space to identify the dark matter property depending on the Peccei-Quinn scale. As the Peccei-Quinn scale becomes higher resulting in longer axino lifetime, the neutralino dark matter appears in a lighter Higgsino-like LSP region or a more restricted Bino-like LSP region allowing a resonant annihilation through a CP-odd Higgs boson to meet stronger reannihilation.

It is essential to include the decay and inverse decay of $N$ in this process, otherwise $N$ decouples too early and thus dark matter is overproduced. At the LHC, the search for the seesaw mechanism can be made by observing the signatures of $pp \to \tilde Z' \tilde Z' \to NN + \ptmiss$ as $\tilde Z'$ can be copiously produced from the cascade decays of gluinos/squarks, which is complementary to the search of $pp\to Z' \to NN$. This may also open up a promising new channel of finding the Higgs boson from the displaced $N$ decay.

If the axino decays to a neutralino, the overproduced neutralinos can re-annihilate appropriately to saturate the observed dark matter density if the annihilation rate is of order $10^{-8}{GeV}^{-2}$ for the axion scale larger than about $10^{11}$ GeV. While the symmetric population annihilates away due to a rapid gauge interaction, its asymmetric abundance is supposed to be produced by the decay of a right-handed neutrino superfield in the supersymmetric type I seesaw mechanism. The efficiencies for generating the dark matter and lepton asymmetries are calculated by solving a set of approximate Boltzmann equations. A spectacular feature of this scenario is the existence of a long-lived singly- or multiply-charged scalar and a shorter-lived singly-charged fermion whose tracks can be readily looked for at the LHC.

When the seesaw mechanism with Higgs triplet superfields is implemented to account for the neutrino masses and mixing, the leptogenesis driven by the heavy triplet decay is shown to produce not only the matter-antimatter asymmetry but also the asymmetric relic density of the Dirac gaugino dark matter. The dark matter mass turns out to be controlled by the Yukawa couplings of the heavy Higgs triplets, and it can be naturally at the weak scale for a mild hierarchy of the Yukawa couplings.

We investigate the leptophilic properties of Dirac gauginos in an R--symmetric N=2 supersymmetric model with extended gauge and Higgs sectors. The annihilation of Dirac gauginos to leptons requires no chirality flip in the final states so that it is not suppressed as in the Majorana case. This implies that it can be sizable enough to explain the positron excess observed by the PAMELA experiment with moderate or no boost factors. When squark masses are heavy, the annihilation of Dirac gauginos to hadrons is controlled by their Higgsino fraction and is driven by the $hZ$ and $W^+W^-$ final states. Moreover, at variance with the Majorana case, Dirac gauginos with a non-vanishing higgsino fraction can also have a vector coupling with the $Z$ gauge boson leading to a sizable spin--independent scattering cross section off nuclei. Saturating the current antiproton limit, we show that Dirac gauginos can leave a signal in direct detection experiments at the level of the sensitivity of dark matter searches at present and in the near future.

We explore the possibility of a new dark matter candidate in the supersymmetric type III seesaw mechanism where a neutral scalar component of the Y=0 triplet can be the lightest supersymmetric particle. Its thermal abundance can be in the right range if non-standard cosmology such as kination domination is assumed. The enhanced cross-section of the dark matter annihilation to W+W- can leave detectable astrophysical and cosmological signals whose current observational data puts a lower bound on the dark matter mass. The model predicts the existence of a charged scalar almost degenerate with the dark matter scalar and its lifetime lies between 5.5 cm and 6.3 m. It provides a novel opportunity of the dark mater mass measurement by identifying slowly-moving and highly-ionizing tracks in the LHC experiments. If the ordinary lightest supersymmetric particle is the usual Bino, its decay leads to clean signatures of same-sign di-lepton and di-charged-scalar associated with observable displaced vertices which are essentially background-free and can be fully reconstructed.

We provide a detailed study of gravitational reheating in quintessential inflation generalizing previous analyses only available for the standard case when inflation is followed by an era dominated by the energy density of radiation. Quintessential inflation assumes a common origin for inflation and the dark energy of the Universe. In this scenario reheating can occur through gravitational particle production during the inflation-kination transition. We calculate numerically the amount of the radiation energy density, and determine the temperature $T_*$ at which radiation starts dominating over kination. The value of $T_*$ is controlled by the Hubble parameter $H_0$ during inflation and the transition time $Δt$, scaling as $H_0^2 [\ln(1/H_0Δt)]^{3/4}$ for $H_0 Δt \ll1$ and $H_0^2 (H_0 Δt)^{-c}$ for $H_0Δt \gg 1$. The model-dependent parameter $c$ is found to be around 0.5 in two different parametrizations for the transition between inflation and kination.

Motivated by the recent PAMELA and ATIC data, one is led to a scenario with heavy vector-like dark matter in association with a hidden $U(1)_X$ sector below GeV scale. Realizing this idea in the context of gauge mediated supersymmetry breaking (GMSB), a heavy scalar component charged under $U(1)_X$ is found to be a good dark matter candidate which can be searched for direct scattering mediated by the Higgs boson and/or by the hidden gauge boson. The latter turns out to put a stringent bound on the kinetic mixing parameter between $U(1)_X$ and $U(1)_Y$: $θ\lesssim 10^{-6}$. For the typical range of model parameters, we find that the decay rates of the ordinary lightest neutralino into hidden gauge boson/gaugino and photon/gravitino are comparable, and the former decay mode leaves displaced vertices of lepton pairs and missing energy with distinctive length scale larger than 20 cm for invariant lepton pair mass below 0.5 GeV. An unsatisfactory aspect of our model is that the Sommerfeld effect cannot raise the galactic dark matter annihilation by more than 60 times for the dark matter mass below TeV.

The lightest flatino, called here the flaxino, is a CDM candidate if it is the lightest supersymmetric particle. We here explore flaxino dark matter assuming that the lightest ordinary supersymmetric particle is the stau, with gravity-mediated supersymmetry breaking. The decay of the stau to the flaxino is fast enough not to spoil the standard predictions of Big Bang Nucleosynthesis, and its track and decay can be seen in future colliders.

Thermal leptogenesis induced by the CP-violating decay of a right-handed neutrino (RHN) is discussed in the background of quintessential kination, i.e., in a cosmological model where the energy density of the early Universe is assumed to be dominated by the kinetic term of a quintessence field during some epoch of its evolution. This assumption may lead to very different observational consequences compared to the case of a standard cosmology where the energy density of the Universe is dominated by radiation. We show that, depending on the choice of the temperature T_r above which kination dominates over radiation, any situation between the strong and the super--weak wash--out regime are equally viable for leptogenesis, even with the RHN Yukawa coupling fixed to provide the observed atmospheric neutrino mass scale ~ 0.05 eV. For M< T_r < M/100, i.e., when kination stops to dominate at a time which is not much later than when leptogenesis takes place, the efficiency of the process, defined as the ratio between the produced lepton asymmetry and the amount of CP violation in the RHN decay, can be larger than in the standard scenario of radiation domination. This possibility is limited to the case when the neutrino mass scale is larger than about 0.01 eV. The super--weak wash--out regime is obtained for T_r << M/100, and includes the case when T_r is close to the nucleosynthesis temperature ~ 1 MeV. Irrespective of T_r, we always find a sufficient window above the electroweak temperature T ~ 100 GeV for the sphaleron transition to thermalize, so that the lepton asymmetry can always be converted to the observed baryon asymmetry.

We analyze leptogenesis in a supersymmetric triplet seesaw scenario that explains the observed neutrino masses, adopting a phenomenological approach where the decay branching ratios of the triplets and the amount of CP--violation in its different decay channels are assumed as free parameters. We find that the solutions of the relevant Boltzmann equations lead to a rich phenomenology, in particular much more complex compared to the non--supersymmetric case, mainly due to the presence of an additional Higgs doublet. Several unexpected and counter--intuitive behaviors emerge from our analysis: the amount of CP violation in one of the decay channels can prove to be be irrelevant to the final lepton asymmetry, leading to successful leptogenesis even in scenarios with a vanishing CP violation in the leptonic sector; gauge annihilations can be the dominant effect in the determination of the evolution of the triplet density up to very high values of its mass, leading anyway to a sizeable final lepton asymmetry, which is also a growing function of the wash--out parameter K=Gamma_d/H, defined as usual as the ratio between the triplet decay amplitude Gamma_d and the Hubble constant H; on the other hand, cancellations in the Boltzmann equations may lead to a vanishing lepton asymmetry if in one of the decay channels both the branching ratio and the amount of CP violation are suppressed, but not vanishing. The present analysis suggests that in the supersymmetric triplet see-saw model successful leptogenesis can be attained in a wide range of scenarios, provided that an asymmetry in the decaying triplets can act as a lepton--number reservoir.

Motivated by the recent observation of the 511 keV $γ$-ray line emissions from the galactic bulge and an explanation for it by the decays of light dark matter particles, we consider the light axino whose mass can be in the 1-10 MeV range, particularly, in the context of gauge-mediated supersymmetry breaking models. We discuss the production processes and cosmological constraints for the light axino dark matter. It is shown that the bilinear R-parity violating terms provide an appropriate mixing between the axino and neutrinos so that the light axino decays dominantly to $e^+ e^- ν$. We point out that the same bilinear R-parity violations consistently give both the lifetime of the axino required to explain the observed 511 keV $γ$-rays and the observed neutrino masses and mixing.

We analyze homogeneous anisotropic cosmology driven by the dilaton and the self-interacting ``massive'' antisymmetric tensor field which are indispensable bosonic degrees with the graviton in the NS-NS sector of string theories with D-branes. We found the attractor solutions for this system, which show the overall features of general solutions, and confirmed it through numerical analysis. The dilaton possesses the potential due to the presence of the D-brane and the curvature of extra dimensions. In the presence of the non-vanishing antisymmetric tensor field, the homogeneous universe expands anisotropically while the D-brane term dominates. The isotropy is recovered as the dilaton rolls down and the curvature term dominates. With the stabilizing potential for the dilaton, the isotropy can also be recovered.

Abstract:
We discuss the cosmological implications of an antisymmetric tensor field when it experiences a kind of ``Higgs mechanism,'' including nonlocal interaction terms, on D-branes. Even when a huge magnetic-condensation-inducing anisotropy is assumed in the early universe, the expansion of the universe leads to an isotropic $B$-matter-dominated universe.

We analyze homogeneous, anisotropic cosmology driven by a self-interacting ``massive'' antisymmetric tensor field $B_{μν}$ which is present in string theories with D-branes. Time-dependent magnetic $B$ field existing in the early universe can lead to the Bianchi type I universe. Evolutions of such a tensor field are solved exactly or numerically in the universe dominated by vacuum energy, radiation, and $B$ field itself. The matter-like behavior of the $B$ field (dubbed as ``$B$-matter'') ensures that the anisotropy disappears at late time and thus becomes unobservable in a reasonable cosmological scenario. Such a feature should be contrasted to the cosmology of the conventional massless antisymmetric tensor field.

A pseudo Nambu-Goldstone boson as curvaton avoids the eta-problem of inflation which plagues most curvaton candidates. We point out that a concrete realization of the curvaton mechanism with a pseudo Nambu-Goldstone boson can be found in the supersymmetric Peccei-Quinn mechanism resolving the strong CP problem. In the flaton models of Peccei-Quinn symmetry breaking, the angular degree of freedom associated with the QCD axion can naturally be a flat direction during inflation and provides successful curvature perturbations. In this scheme, the preferred values of the axion scale and the Hubble parameter during inflation turn out to be about 10^{10} GeV and 10^{12} GeV, respectively. Moreover, it is found that a significant isocurvature component, (anti)correlated to the overall curvature perturbation, can be generated, which is a smoking-gun for the curvaton scenario. Finally, non-Gaussianity in the perturbation spectrum at potentially observable level is also possible.
