On deformations of isolated singularity functions
Authors:

Abstract:
We study multi-parameters deformations of isolated singularity function-germs on either a subanalytic set or a complex analytic spaces. We prove that if such a deformation has no coalescing of singular points, then it has constant topological type. This extends some classical results due to Lê \& Ramanujam (1976) and Parusiński (1999), as well as a recent result due to Jesus-Almeida and the first…

We prove that if such a deformation has no coalescing of singular points, then it has constant topological type. This extends some classical results due to Lê \& Ramanujam (1976) and Parusiński (1999), as well as a recent result due to Jesus-Almeida and the first author. It also provides a sufficient condition for a one-parameter family of complex isolated singularity surfaces in $\C^3$ to have constant topological type. On the other hand, for complex isolated singularity families defined on an isolated determinantal singularity, we prove that $μ$-constancy implies constant topological type.

We introduce a galaxy cluster mass observable, $μ_\star$, based on the stellar masses of cluster members, and we present results for the Dark Energy Survey (DES) Year 1 observations. Stellar masses are computed using a Bayesian Model Averaging method, and are validated for DES data using simulations and COSMOS data. We show that $μ_\star$ works as a promising mass proxy by comparing our predictions to X-ray measurements. We measure the X-ray temperature-$μ_\star$ relation for a total of 150 clusters matched between the wide-field DES Year 1 redMaPPer catalogue, and Chandra and XMM archival observations, spanning the redshift range $0.1<z<0.7$. For a scaling relation which is linear in logarithmic space, we find a slope of $α= 0.488\pm0.043$ and a scatter in the X-ray temperature at fixed $μ_\star$ of $σ_{{\rm ln} T_X|μ_\star}=0.266^{+0.019}_{-0.020}$ for the joint sample. By using the halo mass scaling relations of the X-ray temperature from the Weighing the Giants program, we further derive the $μ_\star$-conditioned scatter in mass, finding $σ_{{\rm ln} M|μ_\star}=0.26^{+ 0.15}_{- 0.10}$. These results are competitive with well-established cluster mass proxies used for cosmological analyses, showing that $μ_\star$ can be used as a reliable and physically motivated mass proxy to derive cosmological constraints.

The theorem of Hilbert- Burch provides a description of codimension two determinantal varieties and their deformations in terms of their presentation matrices. In this work we use this correspondence to study properties of determinantal varieties, based on methods of singularity theory. We establish the theory of singularities for nxp matrices extending previous results of Bruce and Tari and Frühbis-Krüger. The main result of this work is the description of equivalent conditions to G-finite determinacy of the presentation matrix of Cohen-Macaulay varieties of codimension 2. We apply the results to obtain sufficient conditions for topological triviality of deformations of weighted homogeneous matrices.

Abstract:
In this work we consider the non local evolution equation with time-dependent terms which arises in models of phase separation in $\mathbb{R}^N$ \[ \partial_t u=- u + g \left(β(J*u) +βh(t,u)\right) \] under some restrictions on $h$, growth restrictions on the nonlinear term $g$ and $β>1$. We study codimension two determinantal varieties with isolated singularities. These singularities admit a unique smoothing, thus we can define their Milnor number as the middle Betti number of their generic fiber. For surfaces in C^4, we obtain a Lê-Greuel formula expressing the Milnor number of the surface in terms of the second polar multiplicity and the Milnor number of a generic section. We also relate the Milnor number with Ebeling and Gusein-Zade index of the 1- form given by the differential of a generic linear projection defined on the surface. To illustrate the results, in the last section we compute the Milnor number of some normal forms from A. Frühbis-Krüger and A. Neumer [2] list of simple determinantal surface singularities.
