The Belle II experiment operates at the SuperKEKB asymmetric-energy $e^+e^-$ collider. We measure decay-time distributions to determine $CP$-violating parameters $S$ and $C$. We determine these parameters for two ranges of $K^0_S π^0$ invariant mass: $m(K^0_S π^0)\in (0.8, 1.0)$ $GeV/c^2$, which is dominated by $B^0 \to K^{*0} (\to K^0_S π^0) γ$ decays, and a complementary region $m(K^0_S π^0)\in (0.6, 0.8)\cup(1.0, 1.8)$ $GeV/c^2$. Our results have improved precision as compared to previous measurements and are consistent with theory predictions.

After an optimized selection, a simultaneous fit to the Belle and Belle II data sets yields $114\pm 12$ $B^{+}\rightarrowρ^{+}γ$ and $99\pm 12$ $B^{0}\rightarrowρ^{0}γ$ decays. The measured branching fractions are $(13.1^{+2.0 +1.3}_{-1.9 -1.2})\times 10^{-7}$ and $(7.5\pm 1.3^{+1.0}_{-0.8})\times 10^{-7}$ for $B^{+}\rightarrowρ^{+}γ$ and $B^{0}\rightarrowρ^{0}γ$ decays, respectively, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. We also measure the isospin asymmetry $A_{\rm I}(B\rightarrowργ)=(10.9^{+11.2 +7.8}_{-11.7 -7.3})\%$ and the direct CP asymmetry $A_{CP}(B^{+}\rightarrowρ^{+}γ)=(-8.2\pm 15.2^{+1.6}_{-1.2})\%$.

In this work we use Lagrangian perturbation theory to analyze the harmonic space galaxy clustering signal of Bright Galaxy Survey (BGS) and Luminous Red Galaxies (LRGs) targeted by the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI), combined with the galaxy--galaxy lensing signal measured around these galaxies using Dark Energy Survey Year 3 source galaxies. The BGS and LRG galaxies are extremely well characterized by DESI spectroscopy and, as a result, lens galaxy redshift uncertainty and photometric systematics contribute negligibly to the error budget of our ``$2\times2$-point'' analysis. On the modeling side, this work represents the first application of the \texttt{spinosaurus} code, implementing an effective field theory model for galaxy intrinsic alignments, and we additionally introduce a new scheme (\texttt{MAIAR}) for marginalizing over the large uncertainties in the redshift evolution of the intrinsic alignment signal. Furthermore, this is the first application of a hybrid effective field theory (HEFT) model for galaxy bias based on the $\texttt{Aemulus}\, ν$ simulations. Our main result is a measurement of the amplitude of the lensing signal, $S_8=σ_8 \left(Ω_m/0.3\right)^{0.5} = 0.850^{+0.042}_{-0.050}$, consistent with values of this parameter derived from the primary CMB. This constraint is artificially improved by a factor of $51\%$ if we assume a more standard, but restrictive parameterization for the redshift evolution and sample dependence of the intrinsic alignment signal, and $63\%$ if we additionally assume the nonlinear alignment model. We show that when fixing the cosmological model to the best-fit values from Planck PR4 there is $> 5 σ$ evidence for a deviation of the evolution of the intrinsic alignment signal from the functional form that is usually assumed in cosmic shear and galaxy--galaxy lensing studies.

We present measurements of the branching fractions of eight $\overline B{}^0\to D^{(*)+} K^- K^{(*)0}_{(S)}$, $B^{-}\to D^{(*)0} K^- K^{(*)0}_{(S)}$ decay channels. The results are based on data from SuperKEKB electron-positron collisions at the $Υ(4S)$ resonance collected with the Belle II detector, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $362~\text{fb}^{-1}$. The event yields are extracted from fits to the distributions of the difference between expected and observed $B$ meson energy, and are efficiency-corrected as a function of $m(K^-K^{(*)0}_{(S)})$ and $m(D^{(*)}K^{(*)0}_{(S)})$ in order to avoid dependence on the decay model. These results include the first observation of $\overline B{}^0\to D^+K^-K_S^0$, $B^-\to D^{*0}K^-K_S^0$, and $\overline B{}^0\to D^{*+}K^-K_S^0$ decays and a significant improvement in the precision of the other channels compared to previous measurements. The helicity-angle distributions and the invariant mass distributions of the $K^- K^{(*)0}_{(S)}$ systems are compatible with quasi-two-body decays via a resonant transition with spin-parity $J^P=1^-$ for the $K^-K_S^0$ systems and $J^P= 1^+$ for the $K^-K^{*0}$ systems. We also present measurements of the branching fractions of four $\overline B{}^0\to D^{(*)+} D_s^-$, $B^{-}\to D^{(*)0} D_s^- $ decay channels with a precision compatible to the current world averages.

We measure the following relative branching fractions $${\cal B}(Ξ_{c}^{0}\toΞ^{0}π^{0})/{\cal B}(Ξ_{c}^{0}\toΞ^{-}π^{+}) = 0.48 \pm 0.02 ({\rm stat}) \pm 0.03 ({\rm syst}) ,$$ $${\cal B}(Ξ_{c}^{0}\toΞ^{0}η)/{\cal B}(Ξ_{c}^{0}\toΞ^{-}π^{+}) = 0.11 \pm 0.01 ({\rm stat}) \pm 0.01 ({\rm syst}) ,$$ $${\cal B}(Ξ_{c}^{0}\toΞ^{0}η^{\prime})/{\cal B}(Ξ_{c}^{0}\toΞ^{-}π^{+}) = 0.08 \pm 0.02 ({\rm stat}) \pm 0.01 ({\rm syst}) $$ for the first time, where the uncertainties are statistical ($\rm stat$) and systematic ($\rm syst$). By multiplying by the branching fraction of the normalization mode, ${\mathcal B}(Ξ_{c}^{0}\toΞ^{-}π^{+})$, we obtain the following absolute branching fraction results $(6.9 \pm 0.3 ({\rm stat}) \pm 0.5 ({\rm syst}) \pm 1.3 ({\rm norm})) \times 10^{-3}$, $(1.6 \pm 0.2 ({\rm stat}) \pm 0.2 ({\rm syst}) \pm 0.3 ({\rm norm})) \times 10^{-3}$, and $(1.2 \pm 0.3 ({\rm stat}) \pm 0.1 ({\rm syst}) \pm 0.2 ({\rm norm})) \times 10^{-3}$, for $Ξ_{c}^{0}$ decays to $Ξ^{0}π^{0}$, $Ξ^{0}η$, and $Ξ^{0}η^{\prime}$ final states, respectively. The third errors are from the uncertainty on ${\mathcal B}(Ξ_{c}^{0}\toΞ^{-}π^{+})$. The asymmetry parameter for $Ξ_{c}^{0}\toΞ^{0}π^{0}$ is measured to be $α(Ξ_{c}^{0}\toΞ^{0}π^{0}) = -0.90\pm0.15({\rm stat})\pm0.23({\rm syst})$.

The result, $R_μ= 0.9675 \pm 0.0007 \pm 0.0036$, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic, is the most precise to date. It provides a stringent test of the light-lepton universality, translating to a ratio of the couplings of the muon and electron to the $W$ boson in $τ$ decays of $0.9974 \pm 0.0019$, in agreement with the standard model expectation of unity.

We observe no evidence of signal from any such decays and set 95\% confidence-level upper limits on the products of $B^0$ and $\bar{B}^0$ branching fractions for these two-body decays with $\mathcal{B}(Ω_{c}^{0} \to π^+ Ω^-)$ in the range between 9.5~$\times 10^{-8}$ and 31.2~$\times 10^{-8}$.

The selection of $e^{-}e^{+}\toτ^+τ^-$ events is based on an inclusive reconstruction of the non-signal tau decay, and on a boosted decision tree to suppress background. We observe one signal candidate, which is compatible with the expectation from background processes. We set a $90\%$ confidence level upper limit of $1.9 \times 10^{-8}$ on the branching fraction of the \taumu decay, which is the most stringent bound to date.

Accurate information from gravitational wave signals from coalescing binary neutron stars provides essential input to downstream interpretations, including inference of the neutron star population and equation of state. However, even adopting the currently most accurate and physically motivated models available for parameter estimation (PE) of BNSs, these models remain subject to waveform modeling uncertainty: differences between these models may introduce biases in recovered source properties. In this work, we describe injection studies investigating these systematic differences between the two best waveform models available for BNS currently, NRHybSur3dq8Tidal and TEOBResumS. We demonstrate that for BNS sources observable by current second-generation detectors, differences for low-amplitude signals are significant for certain sources.

The Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI) survey will measure spectroscopic redshifts for millions of galaxies across roughly $14,000 \, \mathrm{deg}^2$ of the sky. Cross-correlating targets in the DESI survey with complementary imaging surveys allows us to measure and analyze shear distortions caused by gravitational lensing in unprecedented detail. In this work, we analyze a series of mock catalogs with ray-traced gravitational lensing and increasing sophistication to estimate systematic effects on galaxy-galaxy lensing estimators such as the tangential shear $γ_{\mathrm{t}}$ and the excess surface density $ΔΣ$. We employ mock catalogs tailored to the specific imaging surveys overlapping with the DESI survey: the Dark Energy Survey (DES), the Hyper Suprime-Cam (HSC) survey, and the Kilo-Degree Survey (KiDS). Among others, we find that fiber incompleteness can have significant effects on galaxy-galaxy lensing estimators but can be corrected effectively by up-weighting DESI targets with fibers by the inverse of the fiber assignment probability. Similarly, we show that intrinsic alignment and lens magnification are expected to be statistically significant given the precision forecasted for the DESI year-1 data set. Our study informs several analysis choices for upcoming cross-correlation studies of DESI with DES, HSC, and KiDS.

We report a measurement of the $e^+e^- \to π^+π^-π^0$ cross section in the energy range from 0.62 to 3.50 GeV using an initial-state radiation technique. We use an $e^+e^-$ data sample corresponding to 191 $\text{fb}^{-1}$ of integrated luminosity, collected at a center-of-mass energy at or near the $Υ{(4S)}$ resonance with the Belle II detector at the SuperKEKB collider. Signal yields are extracted by fitting the two-photon mass distribution in $e^+e^- \to π^+π^-π^0γ$ events, which involve a $π^0 \to γγ$ decay and an energetic photon radiated from the initial state. Signal efficiency corrections with an accuracy of 1.6% are obtained from several control data samples. The uncertainty on the cross section at the $ω$ and $φ$ resonances is dominated by the systematic uncertainty of 2.2%. The resulting cross sections in the 0.62-1.80 GeV energy range yield $ a_μ^{3π} = [48.91 \pm 0.23~(\mathrm{stat}) \pm 1.07~(\mathrm{syst})] \times 10^{-10} $ for the leading-order hadronic vacuum polarization contribution to the muon anomalous magnetic moment. This result differs by $2.5$ standard deviations from the most precise current determination.

The development of new materials typically involves a process of trial and error, guided by insights from past experimental and theoretical findings. The inverse design approach for soft-matter systems has the potential to optimize specific physical parameters such as particle interactions, particle shape, or composition and packing fraction. This optimization aims to facilitate the spontaneous formation of specific target structures through self-assembly. In this study, we expand upon a recently introduced inverse design protocol for monodisperse systems to identify the required conditions and interactions for assembling crystal and quasicrystal phases within a binary mixture of two distinct species. This method utilizes an evolutionary algorithm to identify the optimal state point and interaction parameters, enabling the self-assembly of the desired structure. Additionally, we employ a convolutional neural network (CNN) that classifies different phases based on their diffraction patterns, serving as a fitness function for the desired structure. Using our protocol, we successfully inverse design two-dimensional crystalline structures, including a hexagonal lattice, and a dodecagonal quasicrystal, within a non-additive binary mixture of hard disks. Finally, we introduce a symmetry-based order parameter that leverages the encoded symmetry within the diffraction pattern. This order parameter circumvents the need for training a CNN, and is used as a fitness function to inverse design an octagonal quasicrystal.

Deep learning (DL) models have emerged as a powerful tool in avian bioacoustics to assess environmental health. To maximize the potential of cost-effective and minimal-invasive passive acoustic monitoring (PAM), DL models must analyze bird vocalizations across a wide range of species and environmental conditions. However, data fragmentation challenges a comprehensive evaluation of generalization performance. Therefore, we introduce the BirdSet dataset, comprising approximately 520,000 global bird recordings for training and over 400 hours of PAM recordings for testing. Our benchmark offers baselines for several DL models to enhance comparability and consolidate research across studies, along with code implementations that include comprehensive training and evaluation protocols.

We also measure the cross section of inclusive $pJ/ψ$ production in $e^+e^-$ annihilation to be $σ(e^+e^- \to pJ/ψ+ anything) = [57.5 \pm 2.1 (stat.) \pm 2.5(syst.)]$~fb at $\sqrt{s} = 10.52~\hbox{GeV}$ using an 89.5~fb$^{-1}$ continuum data sample. Among the various candidates for dark matter (DM), ultralight vector DM can be probed by laser interferometric gravitational wave detectors through the measurement of oscillating length changes in the arm cavities. In this context, KAGRA has a unique feature due to differing compositions of its mirrors, enhancing the signal of vector DM in the length change in the auxiliary channels. Here we present the result of a search for $U(1)_{B-L}$ gauge boson DM using the KAGRA data from auxiliary length channels during the first joint observation run together with GEO600. By applying our search pipeline, which takes into account the stochastic nature of ultralight DM, upper bounds on the coupling strength between the $U(1)_{B-L}$ gauge boson and ordinary matter are obtained for a range of DM masses. While our constraints are less stringent than those derived from previous experiments, this study demonstrates the applicability of our method to the lower-mass vector DM search, which is made difficult in this measurement by the short observation time compared to the auto-correlation time scale of DM.

We report on a search for a resonance $X$ decaying to a pair of muons in $e^{+}e^{-}\rightarrow μ^+ μ^- X$ events in the 0.212-9.000 GeV/$c^{2}$ mass range, using 178 fb$^{-1}$ of data collected by the BelleII experiment at the SuperKEKB collider at a center of mass energy of 10.58 GeV. The analysis probes two different models of $X$ beyond the standard model: a $Z^{\prime}$ vector boson in the $L_μ-L_τ$ model and a muonphilic scalar. We observe no evidence for a signal and set exclusion limits at the 90$\%$ confidence level on the products of cross section and branching fraction for these processes, ranging from 0.046 fb to 0.97 fb for the $L_μ-L_τ$ model and from 0.055 fb to 1.3 fb for the muonphilic scalar model. For masses below 6 GeV/$c^{2}$, the corresponding constraints on the couplings of these processes to the standard model range from 0.0008 to 0.039 for the $L_μ-L_τ$ model and from 0.0018 to 0.040 for the muonphilic scalar model. These are the first constraints on the muonphilic scalar from a dedicated search.

Galaxy-galaxy lensing (GGL) and clustering measurements from the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument Year 1 (DESI Y1) dataset promise to yield unprecedented combined-probe tests of cosmology and the galaxy-halo connection. In such analyses, it is essential to identify and characterise all relevant statistical and systematic errors. In this paper, we forecast the covariances of DESI Y1 GGL+clustering measurements and characterise the systematic bias due to redshift evolution in the lens samples. Focusing on the projected clustering and galaxy-galaxy lensing correlations, we compute a Gaussian analytical covariance, using a suite of N-body and log-normal simulations to characterise the effect of the survey footprint. Using the DESI One Percent Survey data, we measure the evolution of galaxy bias parameters for the DESI Luminous Red Galaxy (LRG) and Bright Galaxy Survey (BGS) samples. We find mild evolution in the LRGs in 0.4 < z < 0.8, subdominant compared to the expected statistical errors. For BGS, we find less evolution effects for brighter absolute magnitude cuts, at the cost of reduced sample size. We find that with a fiducial redshift bin width delta z = 0.1, evolution effects on GGL is negligible across all scales, all fiducial selection cuts, all fiducial redshift bins, given DESI Y1 sample size. Galaxy clustering is more sensitive to evolution due to the bias squared scaling. Nevertheless the redshift evolution effect is insignificant for clustering above the 1-halo scale of 0.1Mpc/h. For studies that wish to reliably access smaller scales, additional treatment of redshift evolution is likely needed. This study serves as a reference for GGL and clustering studies using the DESI Y1 sample

It improves previous algorithms by using the information from all charged final-state particles and the relations between them. We evaluate its performance using $B$ decays to flavor-specific hadronic final states reconstructed in a 362 $\text{fb}^{-1}$ sample of electron-positron collisions collected at the $Υ(4S)$ resonance with the Belle II detector at the SuperKEKB collider. We achieve an effective tagging efficiency of $(37.40 \pm 0.43 \pm 0.36) \%$, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic, which is $18\%$ better than the previous Belle II algorithm. Demonstrating the algorithm, we use $B^{0}\to J/ψK^0_\text{S}$ decays to measure the mixing-induced and direct $CP$ violation parameters, $S = (0.724 \pm 0.035 \pm 0.014)$ and $C = (-0.035 \pm 0.026 \pm 0.013)$.

Abstract:
We generalize a recent result of Pavic--Schreieder regarding the surjectivity of the obstruction morphism defined in [PS23]. As a consequence of this result, we show that geometrically (retract) rational varieties over a Laurent field of characteristic 0, which admit a strictly semi-stable model, have trivial Chow group of zero-cycles. Our key new ingredient comes from toric geometry.

We report a search for a heavy neutral lepton (HNL) that mixes predominantly with $ν_τ$. The search utilizes data collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric energy $e^+ e^-$ collider. The data sample was collected at and just below the center-of-mass energies of the $Υ(4S)$ and $Υ(5S)$ resonances and has an integrated luminosity of $915~\textrm{fb}^{-1}$, corresponding to $(836\pm 12)\times 10^6$ $e^+e^\toτ^+τ^-$ events. We search for production of the HNL (denoted $N$) in the decay $τ^-\to π^- N$ followed by its decay via $N \to μ^+μ^- ν_τ$. The search focuses on the parameter-space region in which the HNL is long lived, so that the $μ^+μ^-$ originate from a common vertex that is significantly displaced from the collision point of the KEKB beams. Consistent with the expected background yield, one event is observed in the data sample after application of all the event-selection criteria. We report limits on the mixing parameter of the HNL with the $τ$ neutrino as a function of the HNL mass.

By analyzing the mass distribution of the $π^+π^-Υ(nS)$ system and the Born cross sections of the $e^{+}e^{-}\toπ^{+}π^{-}Υ(nS)$ process, we report the first observation of $Υ(10753)$ decays to the $π^{+}π^{-}Υ(1S)$ and $π^{+}π^{-}Υ(2S)$ final states, and find no evidence for decays to $π^{+}π^{-}Υ(3S)$. Possible intermediate states in the $π^+π^-Υ(1S,2S)$ transitions are also investigated, and no evidence for decays proceeding via the $π^\mp Z_b^\pm$ or $f_0(980)Υ(nS)$ intermediate states is found. We measure Born cross sections for the $e^{+}e^{-}\toπ^{+}π^{-}Υ(nS)$ process that, combined with results from Belle, improve the precision of measurements of the $Υ(10753)$ mass and width by nearly a factor of two to $(10756.3\pm2.7\pm0.6)$ MeV/$c^2$ and $(29.7\pm8.5\pm1.1)$ MeV, respectively. The relative ratios of the Born cross sections at the $Υ(10753)$ resonance peak are also reported for the first time.

The ratio of branching fractions $R(D^{*}) = \mathcal{B}(\overline{B} \rightarrow D^{*} τ^{-} \overlineν_τ)$/$\mathcal{B} (\overline{B} \rightarrow D^{*} \ell^{-} \overlineν_{\ell})$, where $\ell$ is an electron or muon, is measured using a Belle~II data sample with an integrated luminosity of $189~\mathrm{fb}^{-1}$ at the SuperKEKB asymmetric-energy $e^{+} e^{-}$ collider. Data is collected at the $Υ(\mathrm{4S})$ resonance, and one $B$ meson in the $Υ(\mathrm{4S})\rightarrow B\overline{B}$ decay is fully reconstructed in hadronic decay modes. The accompanying signal $B$ meson is reconstructed as $\overline{B}\rightarrow D^{*} τ^{-}\overlineν_τ$ using leptonic $τ$ decays. The normalization decay, $\overline{B}\rightarrow D^{*} \ell^{-} \overlineν_{\ell}$, where $\ell$ is an electron or muon, produces the same observable final state particles. The ratio of branching fractions is extracted in a simultaneous fit to two signal-discriminating variables in both channels and yields $R(D^{*}) = 0.262~_{-0.039}^{+0.041}(\mathrm{stat})~_{-0.032}^{+0.035}(\mathrm{syst})$. This result is consistent with the current world average and with standard model predictions.

We observe a new resonance $\mathcal R(3810)$ in the cross sections for the first time, and observe the $\mathcal R(3760)$ resonance with high significance in the cross sections. The $\mathcal R(3810)$ has a mass of $(3804.5 \pm 0.9 \pm 0.9)$ ~MeV/$c^2$, a total width of $(5.4 \pm 3.5 \pm 3.2)$~MeV, and an electronic partial width of $(19.4 \pm 7.4 \pm 12.1)$~eV. Its significance is $7.7σ$. The $\mathcal R(3810)$ could be interpreted as a hadro-charmonium resonance predicted by Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD). In addition, we measure the mass $(3751.9\pm 3.8\pm 2.8)$ ~MeV/$c^2$, the total width $(32.8 \pm 5.8 \pm 8.7)$~MeV, and the electronic partial width $(184\pm 75\pm 86)$~eV with improved precision for the $\mathcal R(3760)$. Furthermore, for the $\mathcal R(3780)$ we measure the mass $(3778.7\pm 0.5\pm 0.3)$ ~MeV/$c^2$ and total width $(20.3 \pm 0.8 \pm 1.7)$~MeV with improved precision, and the electronic partial width $(265\pm 69\pm 83)$~eV. The $\mathcal R(3780)$ can be interpreted as the $1^3D_1$ state of charmonium. Its mass and total width differ significantly from the corresponding fitted values given by the Particle Data Group in 2022 by 7.1 and 3.2 times the uncertainties for $ψ(3770)$, respectively. $ψ(3770)$ has been interpreted as the $1^3D_1$ state for 45 years.

In this investigation, we leverage the combination of Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument Legacy imaging Surveys Data Release 9 (DESI LS DR9), Survey Validation 3 (SV3), and Year 1 (Y1) data sets to estimate the conditional luminosity and stellar mass functions (CLFs & CSMFs) of galaxies across various halo mass bins and redshift ranges. To support our analysis, we utilize a realistic DESI Mock Galaxy Redshift Survey (MGRS) generated from a high-resolution Jiutian simulation. An extended halo-based group finder is applied to both MGRS catalogs and DESI observation. By comparing the r and z-band luminosity functions (LFs) and stellar mass functions (SMFs) derived using both photometric and spectroscopic data, we quantified the impact of photometric redshift (photo-z) errors on the galaxy LFs and SMFs, especially in the low redshift bin at low luminosity/mass end. By conducting prior evaluations of the group finder using MGRS, we successfully obtain a set of CLF and CSMF measurements from observational data. We find that at low redshift the faint end slopes of CLFs and CSMFs below $10^{9}h^{-2}L_{\odot}$ (or $h^{-2}M_{\odot}$) evince a compelling concordance with the subhalo mass functions. After correcting the cosmic variance effect of our local Universe following arXiv:1809.00523, the faint end slopes of the LFs/SMFs turn out to be also in good agreement with the slope of the halo mass function.

As gravitational wave detectors improve in sensitivity, signal-to-noise ratios of compact binary coalescences will dramatically increase, reaching values in the hundreds and potentially thousands. Such strong signals offer both exciting scientific opportunities and pose formidable challenges to the template waveforms used for interpretation. Current waveform models are informed by calibrating or fitting to numerical relativity waveforms and such strong signals may unveil computational errors in generating these waveforms. In this paper, we isolate a single source of computational error, that of the finite grid resolution, and investigate its impact on parameter estimation for aLIGO and Cosmic Explorer. We show that injecting a lower resolution simulation tends to cause a downward shift in the recovered chirp mass and mass ratio posteriors. We demonstrate that increasing the inclination angle or decreasing the mass ratio raises the resolution required for unbiased parameter estimation. We quantify the error associated with the highest-resolution waveform utilized using an extrapolation procedure on the median of recovered posteriors and confirm the accuracy of current waveforms for the synthetic sources. We introduce a measure to predict the necessary numerical resolution for unbiased parameter estimation and use it to predict that current waveforms are suitable for equal and moderately unequal mass binaries for both detectors. However, current waveforms fail to meet accuracy requirements for high signal-to-noise ratio signals from highly unequal mass ratio binaries $(q \lesssim 1/6)$, for all inclinations in Cosmic Explorer, and for high inclinations in future updates to LIGO. Given that the resolution requirement becomes more stringent with more unequal mass ratios, current waveforms may lack the necessary accuracy, even at median signal-to-noise ratios for future detectors.

By using the theory of analytic vectors and manifolds modelled on normed spaces, we provide a rigorous symplectic differential geometric approach to $t$-dependent Schrödinger equations on separable (possibly infinite-dimensional) Hilbert spaces determined by unbounded $t$-dependent self-adjoint Hamiltonians satisfying a technical condition. As an application, the Marsden--Weinstein reduction procedure is employed to map above-mentioned $t$-dependent Schrödinger equations onto their projective spaces. Other applications of physical and mathematical relevance are also analysed.

Using the entire BaBar $Υ(4S)$ data set, the first two-dimensional unbinned angular analysis of the semileptonic decay $\overline{B} \rightarrow D \ell^- \overlineν_\ell$ is performed, employing hadronic reconstruction of the tag-side $B$ meson from $Υ(4S)\to B\overline{B}$. Here, $\ell$ denotes the light charged leptons $e$ and $μ$. A novel data-driven signal-background separation procedure with minimal dependence on simulation is developed. This procedure preserves all multi-dimensional correlations present in the data. The expected $\sin^2θ_\ell$ dependence of the differential decay rate in the Standard Model is demonstrated, where $θ_\ell$ is the lepton helicity angle. Including input from the latest lattice QCD calculations and previously available experimental data, the underlying form factors are extracted using both model-independent (BGL) and dependent (CLN) methods. Comparisons with lattice calculations show flavor SU(3) symmetry to be a good approximation in the $B_{(s)}\to D_{(s)}$ sector. Using the BGL results, the CKM matrix element $|V_{cb}|=(41.09\pm 1.16)\times 10^{-3}$ and the Standard Model prediction of the lepton-flavor universality violation variable $\mathcal{R}(D)=0.300\pm 0.004$, are extracted. The value of $|V_{cb}|$ from $\overline{B} \rightarrow D \ell^- \overlineν_\ell$ tends to be higher than that extracted using $\overline{B} \rightarrow D \ell^- \overlineν_\ell$. The Standard Model $\mathcal{R}(D)$ calculation is at a $1.97σ$ tension with the latest HFLAV experimental average.

We search for the rare decay $B^{+}\rightarrow K^{+}ν\barν$ in a $362\ \rm{fb}^{-1}$ sample of electron-positron collisions at the $Υ(4S)$ resonance collected with the Belle II detector at the SuperKEKB collider. We use the inclusive properties of the accompanying $B$ meson in $Υ(4S) \to B\kern 0.18em\overline{\kern -0.18em B}{}$ events to suppress background from other decays of the signal $B$ candidate and light-quark pair production. We validate the measurement with an auxiliary analysis based on a conventional hadronic reconstruction of the accompanying $B$ meson. For background suppression, we exploit distinct signal features using machine learning methods tuned with simulated data. The signal-reconstruction efficiency and background suppression are validated through various control channels. The branching fraction is extracted in a maximum likelihood fit. Our inclusive and hadronic analyses yield consistent results for the $B^{+}\rightarrow K^{+}ν\barν$ branching fraction of $\left[2.7\pm 0.5(\mathrm{stat})\pm 0.5(\mathrm{syst})\right] \times 10^{-5}$ and $\left[1.1^{+0.9}_{-0.8}(\mathrm{stat}){}^{+0.8}_{-0.5}(\mathrm{syst})\right] \times 10^{-5}$, respectively. Combining the results, we determine the branching fraction of the decay $B^{+}\rightarrow K^{+}ν\barν$ to be $\left[2.3 \pm 0.5(\mathrm{stat})^{+0.5}_{-0.4}(\mathrm{syst})\right]\times 10^{-5}$, providing the first evidence for this decay at $3.5$ standard deviations. The combined result is $2.7$ standard deviations above the standard model expectation.

Signal yields are determined in two-dimensional fits to background-discriminating variables, and range from 500 to 3900 decays, depending on the channel. We obtain $-0.03 \pm 0.13 \pm 0.04$ for the sum rule, in agreement with the standard model expectation of zero and with a precision comparable to the best existing determinations.

The energy transition in transportation benefits from demand-based models to determine the optimal placement of refueling stations for alternative fuel vehicles such as battery electric trucks. A formulation known as the refueling station location problem with routing (RSLP-R) is concerned with minimizing the number of stations necessary to cover a set of origin-destination trips such that the transit time does not exceed a given threshold. In this paper we extend the RSLP-R by station capacities to limit the number of vehicles that can be refueled at individual stations. The solution to the capacitated RSLP-R (CRSLP-R) avoids congestion of refueling stations by satisfying capacity constraints. We devise two optimization methods to deal with the increased difficulty to solve the CRSLP-R. The first method extends a prior branch-and-cut approach and the second method is a branch-cut-and-price algorithm based on variables associated with feasible routes. We evaluate both our methods on instances from the literature as well as a newly constructed network and find that the relative performance of the algorithms depends on the strictness of the capacity constraints. Furthermore, we show some runtime improvements over prior work on uncapacitated instances.

We propose a simple generalization of standard and empirically successful decision tree learning algorithms such as ID3, C4.5, and CART. These algorithms, which have been central to machine learning for decades, are greedy in nature: they grow a decision tree by iteratively splitting on the best attribute. Our algorithm, Top-$k$, considers the $k$ best attributes as possible splits instead of just the single best attribute. We demonstrate, theoretically and empirically, the power of this simple generalization. We first prove a {\sl greediness hierarchy theorem} showing that for every $k \in \mathbb{N}$, Top-$(k+1)$ can be dramatically more powerful than Top-$k$: there are data distributions for which the former achieves accuracy $1-\varepsilon$, whereas the latter only achieves accuracy $\frac1{2}+\varepsilon$. We then show, through extensive experiments, that Top-$k$ outperforms the two main approaches to decision tree learning: classic greedy algorithms and more recent "optimal decision tree" algorithms. On one hand, Top-$k$ consistently enjoys significant accuracy gains over greedy algorithms across a wide range of benchmarks. On the other hand, Top-$k$ is markedly more scalable than optimal decision tree algorithms and is able to handle dataset and feature set sizes that remain far beyond the reach of these algorithms.

We determine the CKM matrix-element magnitude $|V_{cb}|$ using $\overline{B}^0\to D^{*+}\ell^-\barν_\ell$ decays reconstructed in $189 \, \mathrm{fb}^{-1}$ of collision data collected by the Belle II experiment, located at the SuperKEKB $e^+e^-$ collider. Partial decay rates are reported as functions of the recoil parameter $w$ and three decay angles separately for electron and muon final states. We obtain $|V_{cb}|$ using the Boyd-Grinstein-Lebed and Caprini-Lellouch-Neubert parametrizations, and find $|V_{cb}|_\mathrm{BGL}=(40.57\pm 0.31 \pm 0.95\pm 0.58)\times 10^{-3}$ and $|V_{cb}|_\mathrm{CLN}=(40.13 \pm 0.27 \pm 0.93\pm 0.58 )\times 10^{-3}$ with the uncertainties denoting statistical components, systematic components, and components from the lattice QCD input, respectively. The branching fraction is measured to be ${\cal B}(\overline{B}^0\to D^{*+}\ell^-\barν_\ell)=(4.922 \pm 0.023 \pm 0.220)\%$. The ratio of branching fractions for electron and muon final states is found to be $0.998 \pm 0.009 \pm 0.020$. In addition, we determine the forward-backward angular asymmetry and the $D^{*+}$ longitudinal polarization fractions. All results are compatible with lepton-flavor universality in the Standard Model.

The third Gravitational-Wave Transient Catalog (GWTC-3) contains 90 binary coalescence candidates detected by the LIGO-Virgo-KAGRA Collaboration (LVK). We provide a re-analysis of binary black hole (BBH) events using a recently developed numerical relativity (NR) waveform surrogate model, NRSur7dq4, that includes all $\ell \leq 4$ spin-weighted spherical harmonic modes as well as the complete physical effects of precession. Properties of the remnant black holes' (BH's) mass, spin vector, and kick vector are found using an associated remnant surrogate model NRSur7dq4Remnant. Both NRSur7dq4 and NRSur7dq4Remnant models have errors comparable to numerical relativity simulations and allow for high-accuracy parameter estimates. We restrict our analysis to 47 BBH events that fall within the regime of validity of NRSur7dq4 (mass ratios greater than 1/6 and total masses greater than $60 M_{\odot}$). While for most of these events our results match the LVK analyses that were obtained using the semi-analytical models such as IMRPhenomXPHM and SEOBNRv4PHM, we find that for more than 20\% of events the NRSur7dq4 model recovers noticeably different measurements of black hole properties like the masses and spins, as well as extrinsic properties like the binary inclination and distance. For instance, GW150914_095045 exhibits noticeable differences in spin precession and spin magnitude measurements. Other notable findings include one event (GW191109_010717) that constrains the effective spin $χ_{eff}$ to be negative at a 99.3\% credible level and two events (GW191109_010717 and GW200129_065458) with well-constrained kick velocities. Furthermore, compared to the models used in the LVK analyses, NRSur7dq4 recovers a larger signal-to-noise ratio and/or Bayes factors for several events.

One of the fundamental goals of particle physics is to gain microscopic understanding of the strong interaction. Electromagnetic form factors quantify the structure of hadrons in terms of charge and magnetization distributions. While the nucleon structure has been investigated extensively, data on hyperons is still scarce. It has recently been demonstrated that electron-positron annihilations into hyperon-antihyperon pairs provide a powerful tools to investigate their inner structure. We present a novel method useful for hyperon-antihyperon pairs of different types which exploits the cross section enhancement due to the vacuum polarization effect at the $J/ψ$ resonance. Using the 10 billion $J/ψ$ events collected with the BESIII detector, this allows a thorough determination of the hyperon structure . The result is essentially a precise snapshot of a $\barΛΣ^0$~($Λ\barΣ^0$) pair in the making, encoded in the form factor ratio and the phase. Their values are measured to be $R = 0.860\pm0.029({\rm stat.})\pm0.010({\rm syst.})$, $ΔΦ_1=(1.011\pm0.094({\rm stat.})\pm0.010({\rm syst.}))~\rm rad$ for $\barΛΣ^0$ and $ΔΦ_2=(2.128\pm0.094({\rm stat.})\pm0.010({\rm syst.}))~\rm rad$ for $Λ\barΣ^0$, respectively. Furthermore, charge-parity (CP) breaking is investigated for the first time in this reaction and found to be consistent with CP symmetry.
