High-energy betatron source driven by a 4-PW laser with applications to non-destructive imaging
Abstract: Petawatt-class lasers can produce multi-GeV electron beams through laser wakefield electron acceleration. As a by-product, the accelerated electron beams can generate broad synchrotron-like radiation known as betatron radiation. In the present work, we measure the properties of the radiation produced from 2 GeV, 215 pC electron beams, which shows a broad radiation spectrum with a critical energy o… ▽ More

A Deterministic Solution of the Wigner Transport Equation with Infinite Correlation Length
Abstract: We propose a new formulation of the Wigner transport equation with infinite correlation length. Since the maximum correlation length is not limited to a finite value, there is no uncertainty in the simulation results owing to the finite integral range of the nonlocal potential term. For general and efficient simulation, the WTE is solved self-consistently with the Poisson equation through the fini… ▽ More

A N-Path Receiver With Harmonic Response Suppression
Abstract: A downconversion receiver employing a switch-based N-path filter with reduced harmonic response around the third- and fifth- LO harmonics is presented. The N-path filter is placed in a frequency-translation feedback loop that is effective at the 3rd and the 5th LO harmonics to mitigate harmonic downconversion. A pulse-width-modulated LO (PWM-LO) clocking scheme is used in the feedback upconverter… ▽ More

Spectral asymptotics and Lamé spectrum for coupled particles in periodic potentials
Abstract: We make two observations on the motion of coupled particles in a periodic potential. Coupled pendula, or the space-discretized sine-Gordon equation is an example of this problem. Linearized spectrum of the synchronous motion turns out to have a hidden asymptotic periodicity in its dependence on the energy; this is the gist of the first observation. Our second observation is the discovery of a spec… ▽ More

Aspects of Massive ABJM Models with Inhomogeneous Mass Parameters
Abstract: Recently, ${\cal N} =3$ mass-deformed ABJM model with arbitrary mass-function depending on a spatial coordinate was constructed. In addition to the ${\cal N} = 3$ case, we construct lower supersymmetric ${\cal N} =1$ and ${\cal N} =2$ inhomogeneously mass-deformed ABJM (ImABJM) models, which require three and two arbitrary mass-functions, respectively. We also construct general vacuum solutions of… ▽ More

Spectral Characterization of a Microbolometer Focal Plane Array at Terahertz Frequencies
Abstract: We have developed a method to characterize the spectral response of an uncooled microbolometer focal plane array at a broad range of terahertz (THz) frequencies (4~50 THz). This is achieved by using a spectrum-tailored blackbody radiator as a broadband THz source and measuring its spectral power with a Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) interferometer. MeV electron acceleration at 1 kHz with <10mJ laser pulses
Abstract: We demonstrate laser driven acceleration of electrons to MeV-scale energies at 1kHz repetition rate using <10mJ pulses focused on near-critical density He and H2 gas jets. Using the H2 gas jet, electron acceleration to ~0.5MeV in ~10fC bunches was observed with laser pulse energy as low as 1.3mJ. Increasing the pulse energy to 10mJ, we measure ~1pC charge bunches with >1MeV energy for both He and… ▽ More

Chaotic dynamics of a bouncing coin
Abstract: We study the dynamics of a bouncing coin whose motion is restricted to the two-dimensional plane. Such coin model is equivalent to the system of two equal masses connected by a rigid rod, making elastic collisions with a flat boundary. We first describe the coin system as a point billiard with a scattering boundary. Then we analytically verify that the billiard map acting on the two disjoint sets… ▽ More

Late-time acceleration in the coupled Cubic Galileon models
Abstract: We investigate the linearly and quadratically coupled cubic Galileon models that include linear potentials. These models may explain the late-time acceleration. In these cases, we need two equations of state parameter named the native and effective equations of state to test whether the universe is accelerating or not because there is coupling between the cold dark matter and Galileon. It turns ou… ▽ More

Three-Period Orbits in Billiards on the Surfaces of Constant Curvature
Abstract: An approach due to Wojtkovski [9], based on the Jacobi fields, is applied to study sets of 3-period orbits in billiards on hyperbolic plane and on two-dimensional sphere. It is found that the set of 3-period orbits in billiards on hyperbolic plane, as in the planar case, has zero measure. For the sphere, a new proof of Baryshnikov's theorem is obtained which states that 3-period orbits can form a… ▽ More

Massive gravitons dark matter scenario revisited
Abstract: We reexamine the massive graviton dark matter scenario (MGCDM) which was recently considered as an alternative to dark energy models. When introducing the native and effective equations of state (EoS), it is shown that there is no phantom phase in the evolution toward the far past. Also we show that the past accelerating phase arises from the interaction between massive graviton and cold dark matt… ▽ More

Future cosmological evolution in $f(R)$ gravity using two equations of state parameters
Abstract: We investigate the issues of future oscillations around the phantom divide for $f(R)$ gravity. For this purpose, we introduce two types of energy density and pressure arisen from the $f(R)$-higher order curvature terms. One has the conventional energy density and pressure even in the beginning of the Jordan frame, whose continuity equation provides the native equation of state $w_{\rm DE}$. On the… ▽ More

On the Ricci dark energy model
Abstract: We study the Ricci dark energy model (RDE) which was introduced as an alternative to the holographic dark energy model. We point out that an accelerating phase of the RDE is that of a constant dark energy model. This implies that the RDE may not be a new model of explaining the present accelerating universe.
