The negative parity states in 116Sn have been investigated in terms of octupole correlation. The same is probed by using the Indian National Gamma Array (INGA) facility at Variable Energy Cyclotron Centre, Kolkata using the reaction, 114Cd(α,2n) 116Sn at 34 MeV energy. Three new γ-transitions relevant to the present investigation are reported and the spin-parities of the associated levels are assigned based on the DCO-ratios and polarisation measurements. The interband transitions between the positive parity ground band and the negative parity band are newly observed and the corresponding extracted ratio of transition probability, B(E1)/B(E2) indicated the existence of octupole correlation in these nuclei. The enhanced transition rates for E1 and E3 transitions between these opposite parity bands and corroboration of soft octupole deformation ultimately aid the onset of octupole excitation in this isotope.

Excited states were populated via an $ α$-induced fusion-evaporation reaction at E$ _α = 38 $ MeV. Inspection of $ γγ$-coincidence data resulted in the identification of a new rotational sequence. Based on the systematics of excitation energy, assigned spin-parity, decay pattern, and the electromagnetic character of the inter-band $ ΔI = 1 $ $ γ$-transitions, this sequence is proposed as the unfavoured signature partner of the $ νh_{11/2} $ band. The structure of this band is further illuminated in the light of the triaxial particle rotor model (TPRM). The possibility of wobbling excitation in $ N = 77 $ Xe-Ba-Ce isotones has been explored in a systematic manner.

The radiative decay of the Hoyle state is the doorway to the production of heavier elements in stellar environment. Here we report, an exclusive measurement of electric quadruple (E$_2$) transitions of the Hoyle state to the ground state of $^{12}$C through the $^{12}$C(p, p$^\prime$$γ$$γ$)$^{12}$C reaction. Triple coincidence measurement yields a value of radiative branching ratio $Γ_{rad}$/$Γ$ = 4.01 (30) $\times$ 10$^{-4}$. The result has been corroborated by an independent experiment based on the complete kinematical measurement $via.$ $^{12}$C(p, p$^\prime$)$^{12}$C reaction ($Γ_{rad}$/$Γ$ = 4.04 (30) $\times$ 10$^{-4}$). Using our results together with the currently adopted values of $Γ_π$(E$_0$)/$Γ$ and $Γ_π$($E_0$), the radiative width of the Hoyle state is found to be 3.75 (40) $\times$ 10$^{-3}$ eV. We emphasize here that our result is not in agreement with 34 $\%$ increase in the radiative decay width of the Hoyle state measured recently but consistent with the currently adopted value.

In this article we investigate $^{40,48}$Ca+$^{40,48}$Ca peripheral and semi-peripheral reactions at 35 MeV/nucleon. Data were obtained using the unique coupling of the VAMOS high acceptance spectrometer and the INDRA charged particle multidetector. The spectrometer allowed high resolution measurement of charge, mass and velocity of the cold projectile-like fragment (PLF), while the INDRA detector recorded coincident charged particles with nearly $4π$ acceptance. The measured isotopic composition of the PLF identified in VAMOS and the average light charged particle (LCP) multiplicities are promising observables to study the isospin diffusion. The detection of the PLF in coincidence with LCP allows the reconstruction of the mass, charge and excitation energy of the associated initial quasi-projectile nuclei (QP), as well as the extraction of apparent temperatures. We investigate the suitability of the isoscaling method with the PLF and the experimental reconstructed QP.The extracted $α$ and $Δ$ isoscaling parameters present a dependence on the considered system combination that could justify their use as a surrogate for isospin asymmetry in isospin transport studies. The reconstruction of the QP allows to observe an evolution of the $α/Δ$ with the size of the QP, the latter being consistent with a strong surface contribution to the symmetry energy term in finite nuclei. This leads to the conclusion that the reconstruction of the primary source is mandatory for the study of the symmetry energy term based on the isoscaling method for such reactions.

At present emotion extraction from speech is a very important issue due to its diverse applications. Hence, it becomes absolutely necessary to obtain models that take into consideration the speaking styles of a person, vocal tract information, timbral qualities and other congenital information regarding his voice. Our speech production system is a nonlinear system like most other real world systems. Hence the need arises for modelling our speech information using nonlinear techniques. In this work we have modelled our articulation system using nonlinear multifractal analysis. The multifractal spectral width and scaling exponents reveals essentially the complexity associated with the speech signals taken. The multifractal spectrums are well distinguishable the in low fluctuation region in case of different emotions. The source characteristics have been quantified with the help of different non-linear models like Multi-Fractal Detrended Fluctuation Analysis, Wavelet Transform Modulus Maxima. The Results obtained from this study gives a very good result in emotion clustering.

The isospin dependence of nuclear level density has been investigated by analyzing the spectra of evaporated neutrons from excited $^{116}$Sn and $^{116}$Te nuclei. These nuclei are populated via $p$ + $^{115}$In and $^{4}$He + $^{112}$Sn reactions in the excitation energy range of 18 - 26 MeV. Because of low excitation energy, the neutron spectra are predominantly contributed by the first-chance decay leading to the $β$-stable $^{115}$Sn and neutron-deficient $^{115}$Te as residues for the two cases. Theoretical analysis of the experimental spectra have been performed within the Hauser-Feshbach formalism by employing different models of the level density parameter. It is observed that the data could only be explained by the level density parameter that decreases monotonically when the proton number deviates from the $β$-stable value. This is also confirmed by performing a microscopic shell-model calculation with the Wood-Saxon mean field. The results have strong implication on the estimation of the level density of unstable nuclei, and calculation of astrophysical reaction rates relevant to $r$- and $rp$-processes.

Detailed characterization of the newly available plastic scintillator (EJ-299-33A) having the pulse shape discrimination (PSD) property has been carried out in case of a large-sized detector (5 in.$\times$5 in.). The pulse height response of the scintillator for nearly mono-energetic neutrons has been reported in case of neutron energies E$_n$ =3, 6 and 9 MeV. Important properties (figure-of-merit (FOM), time resolution, detection efficiency) of the detector has been compared with a commonly used liquid organic scintillator based detector of the same size coupled to the same PMT for uniformity in comparison. The results show that the plastic scintillator detector has about 12$\%$ better time resolution. However, the FOM and detection efficiency were found to be lower than that of the liquid scintillator detector by 40 - 50$\%$ and $\sim $25$\%$, respectively. The possibility of using the new plastic scintillator in large-scale nuclear physics experiments has been pointed out.

The experimental level densities were compared with the microscopic Hartree-Fock BCS (HFBCS), Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov plus combinatorial (HFB+C), and an exact pairing plus independent particle model (EP+IPM) calculations. It is observed that the EP+IPM provides the most accurate description of the experimental data. The thermal properties (entropy and temperature) of $^{115}$Sn have been investigated from the measured level densities. The experimental temperature profile as well as the calculated heat capacity show distinct signatures of a transition from the strongly-paired nucleonic phase to the weakly paired one in this nucleus.

The excitation energy (temperature) and angular momentum (spin) dependence of the inverse level density parameter $k$ has been investigated by comparing the experimental data with statistical Hauser-Feshbach calculation. In contrast to the available systematic in this mass region, the inverse level density parameter showed an appreciable increase as a function of the excitation energy. The extracted $k$-values at different angular momentum regions, corresponding to different $γ$-multiplicities also showed an overall increase with the average nuclear spins. The experimental results have been compared with a microscopic statistical-model calculation and found to be in reasonable agreement with the data. The results provide useful information to understand the variation of nuclear level density at high temperature and spins.

We report the first observation of two wobbling bands in $^{183}$Au, both of which were interpreted as the transverse wobbling (TW) band but with different behavior of their wobbling energies as a function of spin. It increases (decreases) with spin for the positive (negative) parity configuration. The crucial evidence for the wobbling nature of the bands, dominance of the $E2$ component in the $ΔI = 1$ transitions between the partner bands, is provided by the simultaneous measurements of directional correlation from the oriented states (DCO) ratio and the linear polarization of the $γ$ rays. Particle rotor model calculations with triaxial deformation reproduce the experimental data well. A value of spin, $I_m$, has been determined for the observed TW bands below which the wobbling energy increases and above which it decreases with spin. The nucleus $^{183}$Au is, so far, the only nucleus in which both the increasing and the decreasing parts are observed and thus gives the experimental evidence of the complete transverse wobbling phenomenon.

At present Automatic Speaker Recognition system is a very important issue due to its diverse applications. Hence, it becomes absolutely necessary to obtain models that take into consideration the speaking style of a person, vocal tract information, timbral qualities of his voice and other congenital information regarding his voice. The study of Bengali speech recognition and speaker identification is scarce in the literature. Hence the need arises for involving Bengali subjects in modelling our speaker identification engine. In this work, we have extracted some acoustic features of speech using non linear multifractal analysis. The Multifractal Detrended Fluctuation Analysis reveals essentially the complexity associated with the speech signals taken. The source characteristics have been quantified with the help of different techniques like Correlation Matrix, skewness of MFDFA spectrum etc. The Results obtained from this study gives a good recognition rate for Bengali Speakers.

The kinematics of two-neutron emission following the $β$-decay of $^{11}$Li was investigated for the first time by detecting the two neutrons in coincidence and by measuring their angle and energy. An array of liquid-scintillator neutron detectors was used to reject cosmic-ray and $γ$-ray backgrounds by pulse-shape discrimination. Cross-talk events in which two detectors are fired by a single neutron were rejected using a filter tested on the $β$-1n emitter $^9$Li. A large cross-talk rejection rate is obtained ($> 95 \%$) over most of the energy range of interest. Application to $^{11}$Li data leads to a significant number of events interpreted as $β$-2n decay. A discrete neutron line at $\approx$ 2 MeV indicates sequential two-neutron emission, possibly from the unbound state at 10.6 MeV excitation energy in $^{11}$Be.

A large 4$π$ array of charged particle detectors has been developed at Variable Energy Cyclotron Centre to facilitate high resolution charged particle reaction and spectroscopy studies by detecting event-by-event the charged reaction products emitted in heavy ion reactions at energy $\sim$ 10-60 MeV/A. The forward part ($θ\sim \pm $ $7^{0}$ - $\pm 45^{0}$) of the array consists of 24 highly granular, high resolution charged particle telescopes, each of which is made by three layers [single sided silicon strip($Δ$E) + double sided silicon strip (E/$Δ$E) + CsI(Tl)(E)]of detectors. The backward part of the array consists of 112 CsI(Tl) detectors which are capable of detecting primarily the light charged particles (Z $\le$ 2) emitted in the angular range of $θ\sim \pm $ $45^{0}$ - $\pm 175^{0}$. The extreme forward part of the array ($θ\sim \pm $ $3^{0}$ - $\pm 7^{0}$) is made up of 32 slow-fast plastic phoswich detectors that are capable of detecting light (Z $\le$2) and heavy charged particles (3 $\le$ Z $\lesssim$ 20) as well as handling high count rates. The design, construction and characterization of the array has been described.

Background: The influence of shell effect on the dynamics of the fusion fission process and it's evolution with excitation energy in the pre-actinide Hg-Pb region in general is a matter of intense research in recent years. In particular, a strong ambiguity remains for the neutron shell closed $^{210}$Po nucleus regarding the role of shell effect in fission around $\approx$ 30 - 40 MeV of excitation energy. Purpose: We have measured the fission fragment mass distribution of $^{210}$Po populated using fusion of $^{4}$He + $^{206}$Pb at different excitation energies and compare the result with recent theoretical predictions as well as with our previous measurement for the same nucleus populated through a different entrance channel. Mass distribution in the fission of the neighbouring nuclei $^{213}$At is also studied for comparison. Methods: Two large area Multi-wire Proportional Counters (MWPC) were used for complete kinematical measurement of the coincident fission fragments. The time of flight differences of the coincident fission fragments were used to directly extract the fission fragment mass distributions. Results: The measured fragment mass distribution for the reactions $^{4}$He + $^{206}$Pb and $^{4}$He + $^{209}$Bi were symmetric and the width of the mass distributions were found to increase monotonically with excitation energy above 36.7 MeV and 32.9 MeV, respectively, indicating the absence of shell effects at the saddle. However, in the fission of $^{210}$Po, we find minor deviation from symmetric mass distributions at the lowest excitation energy (30.8 MeV). Conclusion: Persistence of shell effect in fission fragment mass distribution of $^{210}$Po was observed at the excitation energy $\approx$ 31 MeV as predicted by the theory; at higher excitation energy, however, the present study reaffirms the absence of any shell correction in the fission of $^{210}$Po.

We report experimental signals of Bose-Einstein condensation in the decay of hot Ca projectile-like sources produced in mid-peripheral collisions at sub-Fermi energies. The experimental setup, constituted by the coupling of the INDRA 4$π$ detector array to the forward angle VAMOS magnetic spectrometer, allowed us to reconstruct the mass, charge and excitation energy of the decaying hot projectile-like sources. Furthermore, by means of quantum fluctuation analysis techniques, temperatures and mean volumes per particle "as seen by" bosons and fermions separately are correlated to the excitation energy of the reconstructed system. The obtained results are consistent with the production of dilute mixed (bosons/fermions) systems, where bosons experience a smaller volume as compared to the surrounding fermionic gas. Our findings recall similar phenomena observed in the study of boson condensates in atomic traps.

High-spin states in the doubly-odd $^{198}$Bi nucleus have been studied by using the $^{185,187}$Re($^{16}$O, xn) reactions at the beam energy of 112.5 MeV. $γ-γ$ coincidence were measured by using the INGA array with 15 Compton suppressed clover HPGe detectors. The observed levels have been assigned definite spin-parity. The high spin structure is grouped into three bands (B1, B2 and B3), of which two (B1 and B2) exhibit the properties of magnetic rotation (MR). Tilted axis cranking calculations were carried out to explain the MR bands having large multi-quasiparticle configurations. The calculated results explain the bands B1 and B2 very nicely, confirming the shears mechanism and suggest a crossing of two MR bands in both the cases. The crossing is from 6-qp to 8-qp in band B1 and from 4-qp to 6-qp in band B2, a very rare finding. A semiclassical model has also been used to obtain the particle-hole interaction strengths for the bands B1 and B2, below the band crossing.

It has been found that the yields of the fully energy damped fragments for all the above reactions are in conformity with the respective statistical model predictions. The time scales of various deep inelastic fragment emissions have been extracted from the angular distribution data. The angular momentum dissipation in deep inelastic collisions has been estimated from the data and it has been found to be close to the corresponding sticking limit value.

The energy spectra of the $α$ particles emitted in the reactions $^{16}$O (7-10 MeV/nucleon) + $^{12}$C have been measured in the center of mass angular range of 25$^\circ$ $\lesssim θ_{c.m.} \lesssim$ 70$^\circ$. The experimental energy spectra have been compared with those obtained from the statistical model calculation with "deformability" parameters predicted by rotating liquid drop model (RLDM) and also fitted the same with optimized "deformability" parameters, which are quite different from the respective RLDM values. The data have also been found to be explained quite well using "frozen" deformation approximation, where the "deformability" parameters have been kept fixed at RLDM values of the parent nucleus throughout the decay process. The effective radius in the latter case is smaller compared to that obtained using the optimized parameters; however, in both cases, the deformations (effective radii) are larger than the corresponding RLDM values. So, considering the uncertainties in the estimation of actual compound nucleus deformations, it can, only qualitatively, be said that equilibrium orbiting, which is similar to particle evaporation in time scale, could also be one of the contributing factors for the observed deformation.

The high spin states in $^{195}$Bi has been studied by $γ$-ray spectroscopic method using the $^{181}$Ta($^{20}$Ne, 6n) fusion evaporation reaction at 130 MeV. The $γγ$ coincidence data were taken using an array of 8 clover HPGe detectors. The spin and parity assignments of the excited states have been made from the measured directional correlation from oriented states (DCO) ratios and integrated polarization asymmetry (IPDCO) ratios. The results show, for the first time, the evidence of a rotational like band based on a 13/2$^+$ band head in this nucleus, indicating the onset of deformation at neutron number $N = 112$ for the Bismuth isotopes. The results obtained were found to be consistent with the prediction of the total Routhian surface calculations using Woods Saxon potential. The same calculations also predict a change in shape from oblate to triaxial in $^{195}$Bi at high rotational frequency.

Definite spin-parity assignment of the levels was made from the DCO ratio and the IPDCO ratio measurements. The level scheme of $^{194}$Tl has been extended up to 4.1 MeV in excitation energy including 19 new gamma ray transitions. The $πh_{9/2} \otimes νi_{13/2}$ band, in the neighboring odd-odd Tl isotopes show very similar properties in both experimental observables and calculated shapes. Two new band structures, with 6-quasiparticle configuration, have been observed for the first time in $^{194}$Tl. One of these bands has the characteristics of a magnetic rotational band. The cranked shell model calculations, using a deformed Woods-Saxon potential, have been performed to obtain the total Routhian surfaces in order to study the shapes of the bands and the band crossing in $^{194}$Tl. The systematic evolution of the giant dipole resonance (GDR) width in the temperature region of 0.9 ~ 1.4 MeV has been measured experimentally for 119Sb using alpha induced fusion reaction and employing the LAMBDA high energy photon spectrometer. The temperatures have been precisely determined by simultaneously extracting the vital level density parameter from the neutron evaporation spectrum and the angular momentum from gamma multiplicity filter using a realistic approach. The systematic trend of the data seems to disagree with the thermal shape fluctuation model (TSFM). The model predicts the gradual increase of GDR width from its ground state value for T > 0 MeV whereas the measured GDR widths appear to remain constant at the ground state value till T ~ 1 MeV and increase thereafter indicating towards a failure of the adiabatic assumption of the model at low temperature.

The GDR lineshapes from the two systems are remarkably different from each other. Whereas, the non alpha-like 47V undergoes Jacobi shape transition and matches exceptionally well with the theoretical GDR lineshape estimated under the framework rotating liquid drop model (RLDM) and thermal shape fluctuation model (TSFM) signifying shape equilibration, for alpha cluster 32S an extended prolate kind of shape is observed. This unusual deformation, seen directly via -decay for the first time, is predicted to be due to the formation of orbiting di-nuclear configuration or molecular structure of 16O+ 16O in 32S superdeformed band.

Both the target nuclei were deformed. Near the Coulomb barrier, at similar excitation energies the width of the fission fragment mass distribution was found to be drastically different for the $^{14}$N + $^{232}$Th reaction compared to the $^{11}$B + $^{235}$U reaction. Exclusive light charged particle energy distribution measurements were also done for the same system at 158 MeV bombarding energy by in-plane light charged particle -- fragment coincidence. Pre-equilibrium components have been separated out from proton energy spectra using moving source model considering two sources. The data have been compared with the predictions of the statistical model code CASCADE. It has been observed that significant deformation effects were needed to be introduced in the compound nucleus in order to explain the shape of the evaporated $d, t$ energy spectra. For protons, evaporated energy spectra were rather insensitive to nuclear deformation, though angular distributions could not be explained without deformation. Decay sequence of the hot $^{32}$S nucleus has been investigated through exclusive light charged particle measurements using the $^{20}$Ne (158 MeV) + $^{12}$C reaction. Information on the sequential decay chain has been extracted through comparison of the experimental data with the predictions of the statistical model. It is observed from the present analysis that exclusive light charged particle data may be used as a powerful tool to probe the decay sequence of hot light compound systems.

The maximum populated angular momenta for fusion were 67hbar and 73hbar respectively for the above-mentioned beam energies. The high energy photons were detected using a Large Area Modular BaF2 Detector Array (LAMBDA) along with a 24-element multiplicity filter. After pre-equilibrium corrections, the excitation energy E* was averaged over the decay steps of the compound nucleus (CN). The average values of temperature, angular momentum, CN mass etc. have been calculated by the statistical model code CASCADE. Using those average values, results show the systematic increase of GDR width with T which is consistent with Kusnezov parametrization and the Thermal Shape Fluctuation Model. The rise of GDR width with temperature also supports the assumptions of adiabatic coupling in the Thermal Shape Fluctuation Model. But the GDR widths and corresponding reduced plots with J are not consistent with the theoretical model at high spins.

A large BaF2 detector array along with its dedicated CAMAC electronics and VME based data acquisition system has been designed, constructed and installed successfully at VECC, Kolkata for studying high energy gamma rays (E>8 MeV). The array consists of 162 detector elements. The detectors were fabricated from bare barium fluoride crystals (each measuring 35 cm in length and having cross-sectional area of 3.5 cm X 3.5 cm X 35.0 cm). The basic properties of the detectors (energy resolution, time resolution, efficiency, uniformity, fast to slow ratio etc.) were studied exhaustively. Complete GEANT3 monte carlo simulations were performed to optimize the detector design and also to generate the response function. The detector system has been used successfully to measure high energy photons from 113Sb, formed by bombarding 145 and 160 MeV 20Ne beams on a 93Nb target. The measured experimental spectra are in good agreement with those from a modified version of the statistical model code CASCADE. In this paper, we present the complete description of this detector array along with its in-beam performance.

The fusion-fission and the deep-inelastic components of the fragment yield have been extracted using multiple Gaussian functions from the experimental fragment energy spectra. The elemental yields of the fusion-fission component have been found to be fairly well exlained in the framework of standard statistical model. It is found that there is strong competition between the fusion-fission and the deep-inelastic processes at these energies. The time scale of the deep-inelastic process was estimated to be typically in the range of $\sim$ 10$^{-21}$ - 10$^{-22}$ sec., and it was found to decrease with increasing fragment mass. The angular momentum dissipations in fully energy damped deep-inelastic process have been estimated from the average energies of the deep-inelastic components of the fragment energy spectra. It has been found that, the estimated angular momentum dissipations, for lighter fragments in particular, are more than those predicted by the empirical sticking limit.

This further confirms the formation of highly deformed long-lived configuration of $^{20}$Ne + $^{12}$C at high excitations ($\sim$ 70 -- 100 MeV) -- which was recently indicated from the analysis of the complex fragment emission data for the same system. However, the potential of the lifting scheme has not been exploited in the context of correlationbased processing, such as encountered in radar applications. This paper presents a complete and consistent framework for the application of DWT for correlation of complex signals. In particular, lifting scheme factorization of biorthogonal filterbanks is carried out in dual analysis basis spaces for multiresolution correlation of complex radar signals in the DWT domain only. A causal formulation of lifting for orthogonal filterbank is also developed. The resulting parallel algorithms and consequent saving of computational effort are briefly dealt with.

Total yields of these fragments have been found to be much larger compared to the standard statistical model predictions of the same. The angular mometum dissipations in fully damped deep inelastic collisions have been estimated assming exit channel configuration similar to those for fusion-fission process. It has been found that, the angular momentum dissipations are more than those predicted by the empirical sticking limit in all cases. The deviation is found to increase with increasing charge transfer (lighter fragments). Qualitatively, this may be due to stronger friction in the exit channel. Moreover, for the heavier system $^{20}$Ne + $^{59}$Co, the overall magnitude of deviation is less as compared to those for the lighter systems, {\it i.e.}, $^{16}$O + $^{27}$Al, $^{28}$Si, $^{20}$Ne + $^{27}$Al. A non-linear optimisation procedure using multiple Gaussian distribution functions has been proposed to extract the fusion-fission and deep inelastic components of the fragment emission from the experimental data. The angular distributions of the fragments, thus obtained, from the deep inelastic component are found to fall off faster than those from the fusion-fission component, indicating shorter life times of the emitting di-nuclear systems. The life times of the intermediate di-nuclear configurations have been estimated using a diffractive Regge-pole model. The life times thus extracted ($\sim 1 - 5\times 10^{-22}$ Sec.) are found to decrease with the increase in the fragment charge. Optimum Q-values are also found to increase with increasing charge transfer i.e. with the decrease in fragment charge.

The possible occurrence of highly deformed configurations in the $^{40}$Ca di-nuclear system formed in the $^{28}$Si + $^{12}$C reaction is investigated by analyzing the spectra of emitted light charged particles. Both inclusive and exclusive measurements of the heavy fragments (A $\geq$ 10) and their associated light charged particles (protons and $α$ particles) have been made at the IReS Strasbourg {\sc VIVITRON} Tandem facility at bombarding energies of $E_{lab} (^{28}$Si) = 112 MeV and 180 MeV by using the {\sc ICARE} charged particle multidetector array. The energy spectra, velocity distributions, and both in-plane and out-of-plane angular correlations of light charged particles are compared to statistical-model calculations using a consistent set of parameters with spin-dependent level densities. The analysis suggests the onset of large nuclear deformation in $^{40}$Ca at high spin.

We study theoretically fusion of the light proton-rich exotic nuclei $^{17}$F and $^8$B at near-barrier energies in order to investigate the possible role of breakup processes on their fusion cross sections. To this end, coupled channel calculations are performed considering the couplings to the breakup channels of these projectiles. In case of $^{17}$F, the coupling arising out of the inelastic excitation from the ground state to the bound excited state and its couplings to the continuum have also been taken into consideration. It is found that the inelastic excitation/breakup of $^{17}$F affect the fusion cross sections very nominally even for a heavy target like Pb. On the other hand, calculations for fusion of the one-proton halo nucleus $^8$B on a Pb target show a significant suppression of the complete fusion cross section above the Coulomb barrier. This is due to the larger breakup probability of $^8$B as compared to that of $^{17}$F. However, even for $^8$B, there is little change in the complete fusion cross sections as compared to the no-coupling case at sub-barrier energies.

The pronounced effect of the channel coupling on the fusion process in case of $^{11}$Be is attributed to its well-developed halo structure.
