About the role

As a Staff Quality Engineer, you will be a key member of the technology leadership team at Artlogic playing a pivotal role in leading a transformation of quality engineering culture. You will work with the technology leadership team to form a quality strategy, and will lead on and communicate a programme of continuous improvement, aligning on the metrics we will use to measure the success of our efforts.

You'll also be working directly with software engineering teams to coach them in quality engineering practices and cultivate a "whole team" quality mindset which may involve you pairing and being "hands on". You'll organise and lead training sessions, workshops, and pair with engineers to improve quality practices, including continuous test practices, risk based exploratory testing as well as effective test automation strategies and tools.

You will directly and indirectly have an impact in terms of a reduction in escaped defects, increased release frequency, test coverage, improved scalability with a reduction in incidents and MTTR.

You will utilise data to drive quality improvements, conduct root cause analysis, and identify trends.

You will lead the selection and use of quality and test tools such as web automation frameworks, unit test frameworks, API tooling, or observability tools. Experienced in testing scalability and reliability attributes of systems or services.

Key responsibilities

Essential:

  • Experience developing a comprehensive testing strategy. 

  • Strong stakeholder management skills.

  • Experienced in continuous testing practices across the SDLC, including shift-left (early testing) and shift-right (production testing and observability).
  • Clear understanding of risk-based exploratory testing techniques.
  • Expereience coaching teams on crafting well-written stories and robust test plans for both functional and non-functional aspects, as well as cultivating a "whole team" quality mindset.
  • Expertise in test pyramid approaches and evaluating test automation quality.

  • Proficient in designing, integrating and maintaining CI/CD pipelines. 

  • Experienced in testing scalability and reliability attributes of systems or services.

  • Experience introducing testing and quality practices in a legacy code environment with limited test automation e.g. characterization testing.

Desirable: 

  • Experience in managing test data, including the creation, maintenance, and use of test data sets to ensure accurate and efficient testing processes compliant with data privacy regulations across multiple environments.
  • Experience with testing native mobile (iOS) applications.
  • Proficiency in detecting and coaching teams on secure engineering practices, such as OWASP Top 10.

Interview process

  • Scenario based quality coaching exercise: demonstrate your quality engineering coaching skills in a practical exercise pairing with some team members that simulates the breakdown of a small project.
