Textile Museum to Move to George Washington University

The Textile Museum will move to George Washington University’s Foggy Bottom campus and become part of a new museum scheduled to open in 2014, the two institutions announced on Tuesday.

The new museum — which will bear the names of both the Textile Museum and the George Washington University Museum — will be housed in 35,000-square-foot building at G and 21st Streets.

The building will include dedicated galleries and increased exhibition space for the Textile Museum. Until it opens, the Textile will continue operating at its current location on S Street in Washington.

The university also announced that it will construct a 20,000-square-foot conservation and resource center on its Virginia Science and Technology Campus in Loudoun County, Va. The center will include storage, a conservation laboratory and a visiting area for the Textile Museum and the university’s collections.
