Buy it, it’s a fun knife!
The SRK is a beefy knife. The SRK-C is not beefy by any standards but that’s a good thing in this case. It’s a perfect size for small to medium hands I’d say. Looks like a great bushcraft knife. I attached 4 pictures to give a comparison between the SRK and its smaller counterpart. Side by side and so you can see the thickness. I attached a picture of the SRK-C next to a Gerber Strongarm for size comparison. Bottom line is as soon as I took it out of the box I liked it.

When Cold Steel first went into operation, they made a number of knives using Carbon 5 steel. It is a common, low-end steel. That doesn't mean it is bad. It all depends on what you plan to do with a knife. I'm a collector of edged weapons and tools and have several hundred ranging in price from $3 to several hundred dollars. The knives I generally carry and use all fall below $50 with my favorite being a $50 knife. And I generally pocket 5 folders in different configurations simply because I like them. Most of my collection has been given to family, friends and strangers. But that still leaves me with quite a few.

Meanwhile, when CS began to advertise, they had several models marked as seconds - the longer version of this knife being one. They were marked down and were also made using Carbon 5. My finances were somewhat limited at the time; but I managed to buy 3 such knives each one a different model with the SRK being one of them. The rubberized hilt had a number 2 burned into it. Examination of each knife could not detect a flaw. They served well over the years until I gave them away as mentioned above.

I presently have the longer version in San Mai steel. But I wanted another SRK with SK5 steel and opted for the compact version as it is easier to carry. I received it today and am very pleased with both the knife and the sheath. If you want a good, inexpensive working blade you can't go wrong with this. The design is perfect, and the CS type of grip is probably one of the best in the business. Jump on it before inflation raises the price. You won't be sorry.

Oh, BTW, I always touch up the blade when I receive it. So, just do the same and forget about complaining about not being able to shave hair. Whomever owns and uses a knife must learn the art of sharpening. It may take some time to learn; but it will be a satisfying experience. Good luck. God speed.

The smaller handle (versus the larger size SRK) is properly sized for this knife, as the blade is smaller in every dimension. I didn't like the handle size or weight previously because I had just purchased a standard SRK and I was more into choppier blades at the time.. Significantly lighter than the standard SRK but still balances nicely.

Sheath issues that I had previously have been fixed with the newer one.

Sharp out of the box. I filed the spine to make it a scraper, spark thrower. Been practicing fire-making and that includes batoning up 2 - 3" seasoned beech. Makes fine shavings and splits well. Currently favored over my Moras and my ESEE 3. I like the saber grind, kind of puts it between a scandi and a flat grind, there is no hollow grinding on the C model.

This is a beautiful compact outdoors/tactical knife from Cold Steel. I have a collection of Cold Steel knives and I have never been disappointed. This SRK-Compact is large enough to get most jobs done and small enough for everyday carry. It is sharp as a razor and the Kraton handle makes for a sure grip whether wet or dry. The blade is secured firmly in the SecurEx sheath, so you can leave the handle strap undone without any fear of the knife falling from the sheath. It is made from good high-tensile steel, so it should be very durable, but I have not had it long enough to evaluate this. I am going to purchase its big brother blade as well, just because I like the compact version so much!

Das Messer kam wirklich extrem scharf an. Die Scheide ist deutlich hochwertiger als die Scheiden von vielen teuren Messern. Das Messer selbst liegt durch den Kraton Griff extrem sicher in der Hand. Selbst wenn die Hände nass sind, es rutscht nichts. Es spaltet mit leichtigkeit Feuerholz, man kann super damit hacken und es schnitzt mindestens so gut wie das berühmte Mora Garberg (hab beide). Hab das Messer sehr ausgiebig getestet und geradezu mishandelt und es ist noch genau so scharf wie frisch aus der Box. Und das alles für 60 €! Für mich ein unglaublich gutes Messer das ich immer wieder kaufen würde!
