Works Perfect To Keep Away Maggots And Last A Long Time
I was finding maggots in our garbage can (YUCK!) I would thoroughly clean it and they just keep showing back up. I was disgusted so I took to Google to research a solution when I came up TERRO Garbage Guard. I was already familiar with the TERRO brand as I love their ant baits so I decided to give it a try. This product works phenomenally! After putting this in my large city-issued garbage can the maggots were gone immediately. The product states it is good for 4 months however I have found it to last for 9 months to a year. I purchased two of these in August 2022 and they lasted until July of 2024, almost a year for each one.I did want to find a more permanent solution to using the garbage guard. I feel that a two-sided tape option would have resulted in losing it to the garbage collectors when it is emptied. So below is my solution to permanently installing this on my garbage can.How I installed it:*Drilled two holes in the top of the garbage can, using the product as a guideline for where the holes needed to be*Inserted screws into the holes and through the garbage guard*Secured with a wing nut (or nut). I prefer a wingnut for easier removal.Note: One thing I would have done differently is to have installed this a little closer to the front of the can for easier removal and replacement. I installed it in the middle assuming that would be the best place but it does make it a little harder to replace. The screws and wingnuts I used eventually became rusty which made it hard to get off, and trying to reach the middle of the garbage can from both sides is a little tough for one person.Pros:*Keeps maggots and flies away as promised*Lasts longer than described*Inexpensive and an easy fixI highly recommend this product if you have issues with maggots and/or flies around. your garbage can.

We have to keep our garbage bin outside due to not having enough space in the garage. In the summer, that means flies. This little thing has greatly reduced the number of flies that we have in our yard. It kills every fly that gets into the garbage bin, therefore they are not reproducing in there. I spray the bin out every week after pick up and there are always dead flies that come cascading out with the water. A couple notes on using it - I do not use the double sided tape that comes with it. I use one of the Velcro command strips. One is stuck to the lid, the other I put on the back of the product. I stick it on there and then remove it when I put the garbage to the curb. I have forgotten a few times and it has either stayed on or been tossed into my yard. But the command Velcro strip seems to be the way to go!

I have been using the TERRO for a couple of years now (mid April - mid October) and it seems to be working because I haven't had any maggots in my trash. Reason for the 4-star rating is the adhesive tape. The one side of the supplied sticker is a female dog to get off. I am almost shredding the sticker by the time the plastic peels off. I wish they would change that and make it more user friendly.

We did what someone else suggested, tied to container and has works fantastic. We had temperatures hit the 100 indices in May and started seeing lots of flies and maggots. YUCK!!! As soon as we attached this, it worked immediately. We are in Louisiana where it is hot as hell, and this had worked amazingly. We even use fly bags near area of garbage, but useless--they'd still get into container (even though has lid). Using this has changed our lives. So happy to find and will probably never be without it.

The first one I ordered last year was amazing, cleared out all the flys after a day. I ordered another one a couple months later and it did not have the same effect. Strange. So I order another one this year and it did not work at all. I then placed another order and after swapping the first one for the second one the flys were dead the next day. I could literally smell the second one when I opened it.

Here is my theory based on my experience, only about 60% of these are effective because the manufacturer is not making them consistently enough so that each one they sell is 100% the same as the last. Some are 10% effective, some are 90% but it just depends on what batch you got. This angers me. These are 10 dollars! Not cheap. The person that is making these should not sell these in packs of 1, they should be 2 for 10. Its insane to think that almost half of these sold are total duds. I'm going to start repacking them up and sending them back, you have already burned me out of $20 worth of bad units, I wont burn one more dollar on this.

I came across the TERRO garbage guard insect killer while purchasing another product....a dog poop bucket. Lets face it, dog poop = flies which = maggots. Always disgusting even though I change the bag weekly but I've lived with it for years. I started using the TERRO garbage guards in 2023 and to my surprise...NO flies around the lid to the bucket and no maggots inside do their disgusting things they do. I will never go without these going forward.

I had a more colorful review written about what this product does to prevent insects from becoming problems (something in the tag line for the product, as it happens), but my review was flagged for unacceptable wording. So I shall try again - this product [REDACTED]s insects as designed, but the adhesive patch used to keep it stuck to the top of the bin doesn't work very well in hot weather, so customers may have to provide additional means of adhesion to avoid fishing the unit out of unpleasant substances that may be in the trash can in which the product has been placed. Pleasant, safe usage, everyone.

I really like these. Just stick them on the lid of the trash can and it kills the flies and keeps them from forming magots. It is especially great in the poop can because the flies hover around it and when you open it to make a deposit the flies go in and magots develops but not with this in the can.

Reading the previous reviews, I was a bit skeptical byuing it. But I can tell you that it works well the day I put it in. Flies are still around the bin but always ended up dying. No more maggots and bad smell. So happy.
Back to buy a couple more.
