I also have the Scree 32 in black and was hoping to get another Scree in a brown like this one but I wasn't able to find one. While this bag is the same quality and volume as the Scree, I find this pack less spacious due to the narrow opening to the main compartment. Though I must admit that the big three zipper the Scree has to access the main compartment has spoiled me. The two front pouches are narrow as well but I'm sure it is just gonna take a little getting used to. One thing I do like about this pack over the Scree is it seems balanced better with a lower CG, mainly due to the elimination of the two top zipper pockets on the top of the Scree....which are nice but I had a tendency to cram too much weight into them with my phone, power bank, wallet, keys, etc.
Anyway, this is my second Mystery Ranch pack and I love them both. The craftsmanship has been excellent so far.

I have a problem buying bags; I buy a lot of them. I don’t write too many reviews though. However, I really like this bag. I was actually afraid it was going to be too big, but it’s actually perfect for my needs. I carry a laptop, a battery bank, AirPods, a wireless Apple charger, my glasses, pens, my lunch bag, file folder, and my workout clothes inside the bag. My coffee cup and water bottle go in the pockets on each side.
The bag looks nice as well. The only gripes I have are that there are no strap retainers and the threaded tabs are not 550 cord. I have Velcro straps to deal with the excess webbing and a surplus of 550 cord, but it would have been nice to have come with it. I don’t use the waist belt so it’s tucked away, but provides some stabilization when I sit the bag down.
I read some reviews saying the shoulder straps back pad were horrible. They are rigid but not horrible. I think they feel fine and the bag contoured me fine. I would suggest you pick the correct size for you. Everyone has there own preferences. I would rather not have an excessively thick shoulder strap if it meant losing a little comfort. When it’s hot and you are moving, your back will get sweaty with any backpack. Maybe a little more with this pack but I wouldn’t load it down with more than I could single strap it or carry by hand when I wanted some fresh air.
I would recommend this bag.

This pack is very comfortable. I'm a larger guy 6ft3, 290 lbs and the large/XL fits perfect. A lot of the tactical packs I have used over the years are too small for my shoulders. Construction and material are top notch. Zippers are a little stiff, but will improve over time, I'm sure. The price is a little steep but within the range of packs of this quality. I can tell it will be used for many years before a replacement is necessary. I will highly recommend it.

Thus far I’ve only used the pack for riding on my motorcycle. Granted, I only ride solo, but having the straps clipped makes me feel as if I’m being held - ever so gently - by a loved one. Perhaps my wife, or even by my mother. The pack fits everything I need to take on my day: laptop, pens and such, hard hat, reflection vest, etc. I could probably fit my dog in there, but he isn’t well adapted to high speeds and leaning turns (it’s a work in progress). The dudes/gals at Mystery Ranch know what they are doing when designing your gear. Like Rembrandt had his paint brush, Mystery Ranch has their needles and threads and s***. The weatherproofing is especially useful in my area, given the fact I ride through rain at least twice a day, and everything in my pack has stayed as dry as your mom. Can’t wait to take the pack on an actual trip and tell my wife and kids to suck an egg and find their own packs. I definitely recommend Mystery Ranch to anyone who grabs life by the cojones and refuses to let go.

There are a million things done right with this pack, especially with its high price tag. Ive traveled many month with this bag alone and has yet to fail me. The generously spacious main storage can fit a ton of items. The rear laptop/tablet sleeve keeps my electronics dry to an extent, its quite water resistant but obviously not 100% waterproof, so be ware. The front and side auxiliary pockets are also stretchable making them versatile. A plastic back support is included and also doubles as the tool for adjusting the strap height.

Over all - I wouldn’t have bought anything else.

My only reason for 4 out of 5 stars is because of the internal storage compartment design. I would love to see them carry over some features from the catalyst.

This is currently the most versatile Ruck sack on the market. The thing is absolutely amazing; however there are a couple of places I would love to see some improvements on the main compartments pockets for future models.

The mesh pockets in the main compartment should have been made of an elastic material more similar to the side pockets in my opinion; so that you could more easily fit your hand in the pocket when removing larger items, and also so that you could fit larger items. They also could have done without the zipper with the use of elastic because the fabric retention would have held the items in place.

Additionally the placement of the pen pockets is kind of silly, it makes it just slightly more awkward to slide your tablet in - assuming you put a metal flashlight or knife there you gotta be careful not to scratch your tablet, or just have to make just you don’t let the utensils hook your tablet as you put it in.

Finally, I would have LOVED a softer material in the laptop compartment, Belroy does a phenomenal job of this.

The only other things I would improve is having a more robust and breathable padding in the back and shoulder straps - as well as having them colour matched to the bag.

But I’d love to give a big thanks to Mystery Ranch for fulfilling my extremely nit-picky needs. There is literally No other medium sized day bag that has a waist belt and if you cycle or run to work it’s kind of a necessity.

Easy of access 5/5
Build Quality 5/5
Innovation 5/5
Overall design 3/5 (-1 for the bottle pockets being too big. -1 for the tablet pocket in the main compartment).
