I really wanted this to work. Conceptually, the integration of a dynamic laser level and stud finder would be invaluable in doing a multitude of tasks like installing a led tv wall mount. That requires finding the studs AND installing it nice and level.Where it misses….- The AC detector is very weak. The wire must be touching the other side of the wall before it will register something. It has not detected a single wire my less expensive stud finder finds easily. And yes, the wires were energized. I tried it on an extension cord and the cord had to touch the unit before the light would light up.- It has a very hard time accurately finding stud edges. It looks like it doubles the distance to the edge of the studs. So a 1 1/2 inch stud becomes a 3” stud according to this unit. Also, it’s not consistent. Depending on WHERE you “zero” the unit, the edges will “move”.Where it hits…- the laser is very niceCompared to my inexpensive Tavool stud finder, in my picture, you can see the accuracy of the black and decker stud finder/laser level vs the Tavool stud finder.. The top marks are where my Tavool thinks the stud is. (Note, the Tavool tool identifies the center of the stud but also shows the edges.).The bottom marks are where the Black and Decker thinks the stud is. The final marks of the B&D unit is the result of several searches. The Tavool marks were made with one pass and it consistently marks the stud regardless of where the unit is “zeroed”.I would not rely on this tool if you want you want to accurately and quickly find studs. So the question becomes, is it worth the 65 dollar as a laser level?

This is very accurate, but very OVERPRICED. Also Black&Decker has cheated customers out of a quality storage case.
I bought a similar unit ~14 years ago, but although the level & stud sensors still work, the LCD screen is totally blank/useless. The old unit came with a semi-hard black canvas clam shell zippered case, instead of the current very cheap plastic display-shelf box that they're disappointingly trying to justify as a real "storage case".
I can understand & price increase from 14 years ago, but not when combined with a storage case quality decrease!

The stud finder is extremely finnicky, wasting a lot of time locating the center of the studs in order to hang a heavy desk on the wall. The "auto level" is a joke. Yes the laser works, but the plastic pin that holds it to the wall is subpar quality and broke within 24 hours of initial use. I will not be buying this brand in the future.

Very disappointed that the A/C finder is completely dysfunctional. Unfortunately I had ordered this proactively and by the time I used it, it was too late for a return.

I will say that the stud sensing function is very good and a significant upgrade from my previous Stanley stud finder, and I like the laser level (although I would have preferred a suction cup to a pin).
