We like to refer to it as the quintessential G-Shock. The top left button is recessed for the purpose of avoiding the button from being accidentally pushed which could cause the time to be changed. This is a design element and not a flaw or defect.

The simply designed Casio G-Shock Classic digital watch for men offers shock resistance that's great for your most vigorous sporting activities. The durable rectangular black watch case measures 45mm wide (1.77 inches), and it's matched to a comfortable black resin sports strap. It includes a stopwatch function that can measure events down to 1/100 of a second for the first 60 minutes (and down to 1 second from 60 minutes to 24 hours), and it offers elapsed and split time modes, and 1st-2nd place times. It also has a countdown timer with a 24-hour range. Other timekeeping features include a multi-function alarm, hourly time signal (which can be turned off), and 12/24-hour formats. This timepiece also features an Auto Calendar (pre-programmed until the year 2039), ±15-second accuracy per month, Afterglow backlighting, and water resistance to 200 meters (660 feet)--which will stand up to the rigors of recreational scuba diving.

I'm in my 60s usually get a few miles of open water swimming in Lake Michigan each week during the summer months. I've never worn a watch but was looking for a way to time my swims. I ordered the Timex Ironman since it was the cheapest with a good rating and the order got delayed. I was reading a trashy spy/special-ops novel and one of the characters was wearing a G-Shock. I had never heard of it :-). Anyway, did a little research and got hooked. I bought the basic DW5600E-1V and love it. Did my maiden voyage with it the other day and it's fantastic. I was not sure if it would bother me, my normal swim is a mile and maybe ~40 minutes in the water. I could check my time throughout looking at it underwater, and it was super comfortable. I love this thing and i'm wearing it all the time. I can't push the timer reset button with my stubby fingers with no nails, so I take it off to reset it using anything handy, like the tip of the band. I thought that might be an issue, but really not. Love the watch, truly great product!

I've been an avid watch collector my entire life, but it wasn't until the past year or so that I've been seriously bitten by the "watch collector" bug. I realized that I didn't have a digital in my collection, and it just so happened that I had also been looking for a beater watch, something to just wear around casually. I always knew the G-Shocks had a big following, so I decided to hop on the bandwagon and I settled on the DW-5600. I chose this watch because, to me, it looks the most "classic" of the G-Shock line. I didn't really care about Solar or Atomic capabilities, which also helped out on the price.

On Amazon's end, they did an adequate job. The watch arrived when it was supposed to, but the box was a little beat-up when I got it. The packaging wasn't all that great, either, because inside the box only one single "air-bag" protected the item.

I was a little disappointed in the packaging of the watch itself. It didn't come in one of those cool gray tins that you see online, or even one of the bigger square black and red G-Shock boxes. Instead, the watch was packaged in a small rectangular box containing a plastic stand with the watch on it and the module book folded in half and stuffed underneath. Not a big deal, but a little neater package would be nice.

Now, onto the watch itself. When I opened the box, I was surprised at just how nice it looks. Really, the watch looks much better in person that it does in any of the photographs I've seen. Like I mentioned above, the watch has a very classic digital look, with a very simple, rugged, "no-frills" design. The band is resin, and at first glance doesn't really look that comfortable. However, once you put it on, it feels nice and smooth on your skin. The watch is also incredibly light (60g, according to Casio's website), so much so that I barely even notice it's there. The build quality feels very solid, and I have the feeling that the watch could withstand a pretty tough beating. The case has a Casio branded metal plate on the backside and a metal buckle on the band. The readout has a positive display and isn't clogged up with useless information, so it's very easy to read. You've got the day and date on top, and time on the bottom. The backlight is nice and bright, although I wish it would stay illuminated for longer than two seconds. The four buttons are located on each corner of the case and I had no problem pressing any of them except for the "adjust" button, which is recessed so you don't accidentally bump it and reset the watch. This is my biggest complaint about the watch, seeing how sometimes I have to take the watch off just press the adjust button. But, luckily you don't have to use it that often, so it's not a deal-breaker.

As for the features of the watch, they're all pretty standard. There's no barometric pressure gauge, tide readouts, or moon-phase indicators, just the standard features. Pressing the lower left button lets you scroll through the watches four modes: Time, alarm, countdown, and stop-watch. These modes are self-explanatory, and the time is viewable in each mode. The watch gives a resounding "beep" when changing modes, and a slightly higher-pitched chirp when returning to time mode. The volume on the alarm is adequate. I consider myself to be a heavy sleeper, and the alarm woke me up just fine.

Overall, the Casio G-Shock DW-5600E is a solid watch. It's classic design, sturdy construction, and refreshingly basic features make it a must-have digital in any collection, especially G-Shock enthusiasts. And, at just over $40, it's an incredible value.

I’ve owned a Casio Men’s G-Shock DW5600 and its predecessor since the early 1970’s. The Casio DW-5600E that I am replacing is at least 15+ years old; and I’ve had to replace the battery and the watchband at least 3x’s. When I replaced the battery and the watchband last year, I decided that the next time they need to be replaced, I would buy a brand new DW-5600. Last week, the watchband broke so I bought a new DW-5600E-1V.

The only difference that I could tell between my old DW-5600E and the new DW-5600E-1V is the country of origin. My old one was made in China. The new one is made in Thailand. Other than that, there is no obvious difference.

I primarily use the Casio DW-5600E for swimming, kayaking, hiking, overseas traveling, etc. For traveling, it doesn’t attract too much attention (i.e., $$$ bling) and the functions are useful (e.g. alarm, stop watch). I like the Casio resin strap especially in wet and humid environments since it doesn’t irritate my skin. (NOTE: Always replace the Casio resin strap with an OEM Casio resin strap. Aftermarket non-Casio straps are too stiff, brittle, and uncomfortable; and will break).

There is a solar powered version of this watch, but I prefer the battery one. The alarm, stop watch, and the backlight function will drain the battery quicker, but from my experience, the battery will last 5 years. (NOTE: When the backlight function does NOT illuminate or it is dim, that’s the cue or signal that the battery needs to be replaced.)

I always replace the Casio DW-5600 battery at a watch repair shop since the battery replacement isn’t the easiest thing for me to do. It cost about US$10-15, but the watch repair shop will do a pressure check and replace the gasket if necessary. The watch repair shop will also check the freshness of the replacement battery before inserting. If I did NOT have an affordable local watch repair shop to do the battery replacement, I’d probably buy a solar powered version of this watch.

The fact that Casio has kept the DW-5600 available for so many years without any design or function change is a testament to it popularity. I'd BUY IT AGAIN, and AGAIN, and AGAIN.

For the money, you definitely can't beat this G-Shock. In fact I prefer its size, shape, weight, and design to many more expensive G-Shock models.

I am so happy with this model that I returned a $300 gold G Steel G-Shock (https://www.amazon.com/Casio-G-Shock-G-Steel-Watch/dp/B07BXCBFCD) and ordered a limited edition Smokey Sea version of the DW5600 instead. The G Steel is a good looking watch, but it's heavy, clunky, and the digital display is hard to read in dimmer lighting. The DW5600 is lightweight, easy to read in any lighting, and I don't feel like I'm going to hit it on things. It is simple and perfect.

I’ve read the reviews. I knew about the recessed “Adjust” button. I am totally fine with it. You can press it no problem. Here’s the thing, this is a simple watch, you don't need to constantly “Adjust” things. This makes all those complaints pointless.

I’ve read the reviews. I knew about the recessed “Adjust” button. I am totally fine with it. You can press it no problem. Here’s the thing, this is a simple watch, you don't need to constantly “Adjust” things. This makes all those complaints pointless.

This is a PERFECT watch. Build and looks are perfect. It’s the perfect size and very comfortable.

O prazo de entrega era de 1 semana, chegou em 1 dia útil. O relógio é um Casio G-Shock DW-5600 original e o vendedor é confiável. Relógio da velha guarda, simples, com funcionalidades básicas como: relógio com data, alarme, temporizador e cronômetro; mas apesar de ser simples, é robusto, resistente à água e a impactos, elegante, versátil e clássico! Só um aviso: o botão de ajuste é mais pra dentro mesmo! Você precisa usar um pouco mais de força (ou a unha) pra usá-lo. Pessoalmente não acho isso um problema, ninguém fica ajustando o tempo todo. É possível que você veja reclamações (da minoria), mas todos são por falta de informação ou por problemas que tiveram com o exemplar deles individualmente, nada que seja problema da marca ou do modelo, e todos os problemas podem ser resolvidos, como eu disse, é com a minoria que acontece algum problema. Ninguém que compre este relógio conhecendo o que está comprando vai reclamar do G-Shock!

Hola, quiero compartir mi experiencia con el reloj Casio G-Shock DW-5600E-1VX.

Creo que es un reloj sencillo, que es lo que suelo buscar en las cosas que compro, que sea sencillo, práctico y funcional. Tiene menos funciones que un reloj mucho más viejo que poseo, ese es databank y multilenguaje, además de que me muestra el año en la pantalla principal y tiene 10 años de batería y 20 años conmigo, pero fuera de eso tiene lo que necesito.
Primero me gusta el diseño, es un poco grande para lo que acostumbro pero no se ve mal, se ve muy deportivo, me gusta el bisel blanco que tiene alrededor de la esfera, la palabra "ILLUMINATOR" en color azul se ve muy bien. Es un reloj ligero, no el más ligero, pero es ligero, el material con acabado mate que tiene me parece bonito, hace que se vea más robusto. La correa es muy suave, no se siente para nada molesta o dura como otras que me he topado en lo salvaje, no me gusta mucho que la hebilla sea color plata, hubiese preferido que fuera negra, pero no molesta tampoco.

Las funciones que tiene son las necesarias para mi día a día, suelo andar en bicicleta para irme al trabajo y me resulta útil ver la hora sin tener que acceder a mi bolsillo y sacar mi teléfono, con un reloj de pulsera todo es más sencillo y natural. No uso mucho el cronómetro, pero sí el temporizador, me sirve para medir el tiempo que tarda en prepararse mi taza de café, antes solía medirlo con el teléfono, ahora lo tengo en mi muñeca izquierda. La luz es excelente, la tecnología EL Backlight es muy buena, no se de qué consta exactamente, pero me gusta mucho el tono azul en el que se enciende toda la pantalla, se puede leer la hora perfectamente; con mi antiguo reloj solo tenía un pequeño LED verde que salía de la esquina inferior izquierda, igual funcionaba bien, pero ni de cerca con lo bonito que se ve este. Creo que solo cuenta con una alarma, igual no me molesta, pero estaría bien que tuviese más.

Como punto negativo es el que he visto varios se quejan y tienen razón, el botón de "ADJUST" es un poco difícil de apretar, aunque si como yo, tu alarma y tu temporizador siempre son los mismos, pues no debería representar un problema grave, en caso de lo contrario, siempre se puede usar algún objeto como una lapicera o un portaminas para oprimirlo. El paquete me llegó en mal estado, no tenía la caja de metal, es una pena porque es mi primer G-Shock y no se si alguna vez compre otro, me hubiese gustado tenerla. No culpo al vendedor porque seguramente al pasar por aduana la rompieron para abrirla, ni modo.

Con todo, creo que es un muy buen producto, el precio me pareció bien por las características que ofrece, creo y espero, me durará muchos años, lo recomiendo al 100% si lo que buscas es un reloj sin complicaciones, que sea duradero y que tenga esa estética sport que tanto se veía en los 80s.
