Quality issue - had to return
I am very disappointed that I have to return this knife. I have wanted one for a long time and when I received it the blade was not completely straight. It curves laterally to the left, looking like a manufacturing defect.I had a similar experience with trying to get a good Ontario old style USAF Survival Knife. I had to return 2 of them and finally abandoned getting one from Amazon due to quality issues. I finally found one in a retail store that was satisfactory. My question: Is Ontario selling seconds to Amazon? I think I am going to go with the Gerber LMF II.

Ontario makes great knives designed for efficiency, expediency, and multi-functionality; and once confronted with an unexpected outdoors survival situation, you will be very happy with this product. Serrated edge is a must, cutting edge blade is really sharp, smart and well thought out carrying case, with tools; has Velcro straps for attaching to your leg, or can be used with a belt. Quality that I did not expect, and was delighted to discover in this product. This is NOT a fighting knife, or combat knife, but one of the most useful knives to keep you alive if one gets lost, or is simply camping in the great outdoors of America. I am very happy with this knife, as a functional tool, and have been in the military for many years; a survival knife must has many useful items to .....keep you alive, and this Ontario will provide endless gratification in sustaining your survival. Superb craftsmanship, built-in tang, great edge, solid weight, and remember you get what you pay for in terms of product and quality. Cheap knives that look like Rambo Knives selling for $29.00 won't save your life ! Good Luck.

After watching a marathon of Fat Guys in the Woods I learned how important it is to have a quality survival knife. I've had some Rambo style survival knives in the past with all the stuff in the handle. They were inexpensive (aka cheap) and you got what you pay for.

So looking for quality knives for my go bags and hunting backpack I found this knife. It is a solid knife with some heft to it - which is good. The cutting edge of the blade is only 2-1/2" of the bottom part of the blade. The rest of the bottom edge of the blade is small serrated - which would be good for cutting through bone, etc. The upper edge has more aggressive serrations which would probably be good for cutting wood. I like the heavy endcap that can be used as a hammer. As stated the end is somewhat pointed to be able to break glass.

As stated in a Q&A, the sheath can be mounted in many different ways. the leg straps can be removed if you don't want or need them. There are 2 straps that go around the handle to secure the knife in the sheath. If you are looking for quick deployment that might slow you down. I guess you could leave 1 strap undone. But I like the extra security of having 2 straps to hold the knife securely.
