2024 MLB odds: How many strikeouts can Paul Skenes tally?

Despite it being his first MLB season, Paul Skenes has been pitching like anything but a rookie.

Through 12 starts, the Pittsburgh Pirates first-year pitcher continues to shine.

He's now 6-1 with a 1.93 ERA, allowing 52 hits in 74.2 innings. He's also walked only 13, and allowed just eight home runs and 16 earned runs.

Arguably the most impressive statistic, however? Skenes has 97 strikeouts to his name. He's only thrown fewer than seven Ks in a game once this season.

Skene's strikeout prop has made bettors a fortune so far, as Overs are 10-2 on Skenes' strikeout prop this season. Just Tuesday night, Skenes went over his 7.5 mark, as he threw eight strikeouts in 8 ⅓ innings.

How many strikeouts can the 6-foot-6 right-hander register?

Let's check out the odds at DraftKings Sportsbook as of July 24.

Paul Skenes Regular Season Strikeouts

Over 164.5: -110 (bet $10 to win $19.09 total)
Under 164.5: -110 (bet $10 to win $19.09 total)

Currently, Skenes is averaging 11.7 strikeouts per nine innings.

Coming off his no-hit, seven-inning win over the Braves, Skenes suffered his first career MLB loss on Tuesday. Despite the loss, he still impressed, pitching into the ninth inning. He only gave up two runs and four hits in that span.

For added context on just how good Skenes has been through his first 12 starts, former Padres ace Blake Snell finished atop the league in ERA last year with a 2.25 ERA, higher than Skenes' current number.

For bettors wanting to dive into other Skenes markets, at DraftKings, he is currently +300 to win the NL Cy Young award. His NL Rookie of the Year odds sit atop the oddsboard at -2000.
