2024 MLB ROY odds: Paul Skenes massive NL favorite; Langford holds steady

The MLB All-Star game is in the books, and now that we're in the second half of the year, it's time to look at the updated Rookie of the Year odds.

Shota Imanaga was on fire at the beginning of the season. He gave up five runs in his first nine career starts and was the favorite for NL ROY for over a month, but those odds have changed significantly.

He's now sitting at +2000 on the board after being -120 just three weeks ago.

Instead, it's the surging Paul Skenes who's got pole position as the heavy favorite to win the award. His odds are currently -1000, which is the lowest they have been all season.

Before his debut, Skenes' NL ROY odds sat at +2500.

His incredible season earned him a spot on this year's All-Star Game roster.

Also, since being called up on May 11, the dynamic right-hander has started 11 games for the Pittsburgh Pirates. The No. 1 pick of the 2023 MLB draft has shined with a 6-0 record, 1.90 ERA and 89 strikeouts.

In two of those 11 starts, Skenes has not allowed a hit. On July 11, he tossed seven no-hit innings against the Brewers before he was pulled after 99 pitches.

Let's take a look at the ROY betting board in the National League at DraftKings Sportsbook as of July 22.

2024 NL ROOKIE OF THE YEAR ODDS:

Paul Skenes, Pittsburgh Pirates: -1000 (bet $10 to win $11 total)
Jackson Merrill, San Diego Padres: +500 (bet $10 to win $60 total)
Shota Imanaga, Chicago Cubs: +2000 (bet $10 to win $210 total)
Joey Ortiz, Milwaukee Brewers: +2200 (bet $10 to win $230 total)
Michael Busch, Chicago Cubs: +2500 (bet $10 to win $260 total)

Now, let's take a look at the ROY odds in the AL as of July 22.

2024 AL ROOKIE OF THE YEAR ODDS:

Wyatt Langford, Texas Rangers: +125 (bet $10 to win $22.50 total)
Luis Gil, New York Yankees: +225 (bet $10 to win $32.50 total)
Colton Cowser, Baltimore Orioles: +550 (bet $10 to win $65 total)
Ceddanne Rafaela, Boston Red Sox: +800 (bet $10 to win $90 total)
Wilyer Abreu, Boston Red Sox: +1100 (bet $10 to win $120 total)
Mason Miller, Oakland Athletics: +1200 (bet $10 to win $130 total)

It's been an impressive rookie campaign for Gil thus far. However, he has recently gone cold. As a result, his odds to win the AL ROY have lengthened to +225 from -115 over the past three weeks.

In his rookie power rankings at the beginning of July, FOX Sports MLB writer Rowan Kavnar speculated that Gil may be suffering from fatigue

"The first thought is that he might be getting tired," Kavnar theorized.

"The 26-year-old threw a total of 25.5 innings the previous two seasons due to Tommy John surgery and has never thrown more than 96 innings in a professional season — a number he is fast approaching — though he insists he is not fatigued (for whatever it's worth, he has maintained his fastball velocity) and that it's more of a mechanical issue."

Meanwhile, Wyatt Langford has recently moved up boards, shortening all the way to +125 from +1400 in the last few weeks.

The Rangers' exceptional left fielder had a torrid June, batting .309 with 30 hits, three homers, 22 RBIs and 11 runs scored in 26 games en route to winning the AL Rookie of the Month honors.
