‘I’ve been testing myself’: Biden talks about taking a ‘neurological physical’ in rambling MSNBC phone-in

The president’s commentary in defense of his mental faculties left one Fox News correspondent using air quotes as she added, “whatever that is.”

Marching orders were issued to Democrats Monday as a letter attributed to President Joe Biden highlighted the party’s focus heading toward November with the incumbent described as the “best person to beat Donald Trump in 2024.” As the “dug in” executive found narrative refuge with corporate media allies on MSNBC, his claim to have had a “neurological physical” left Fox News correspondent Gillian Turner stumped.

Following senior congressional correspondent Chad Pergram’s report on House Republicans discussing options involving the 25th Amendment, Turner joined “America’s Newsroom” from the White House lawn and introduced a defense from Biden earlier Monday via a call in to “Morning Joe.”

“He said the big names who are questioning him right now — whether it’s the media, whether it’s politicians, whether it’s political competitors — are all wrong. They were wrong in 2020 and they are wrong again. Now, he did go on defense when it came to his mental and physical fitness and health. He said this interestingly, he said he had a neurological — a neurological physical in February, whatever that is,” explained the former White House National Security Council employee.

“And when he was asked point blank if he has had concerns about his cognitive health, whether he has undergone any tests, he had kind of a rambling answer,” she added, introducing the clip.

“I had before — I was feeling so badly before the debate, I came back they tested me before. I thought maybe I had COVID, maybe there was something wrong — I had an infection or something. They tested me. They gave me those tests. I was clear, so — but, look, I had a bad night,” Biden told MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski. “But, the fact of the matter is, look at what I’m doing. I mean, let me put it this way. If there was something that was wrong that night, it’s not like it comes and that’s one night it goes away. That’s why I’ve been out. I’ve been testing myself, been tested everywhere I go.”

Turner went on to reference Biden’s letter to Democrats announcing he was refusing to step aside, “So this is the president going on defense now in the media. This comes as congressional leaders are back on Capitol Hill today. And we’re going to see more movement, presumably more dominoes falling in the race, more calls to him to bow out of this race.”

In the letter, the president called for a stop to discussion on his candidacy and expressed, “The question of how to move forward has been well-aired for over a week now. And it’s time for it to end.”

However, many questions remained regarding Biden’s mental faculties, especially from the House Oversight and Accountability Committee which issued a letter of their own to White House physician Dr. Kevin O’Connor on Sunday.

In it, they posed concerns about the physician’s judgment potentially being compromised by a connection to Biden’s alleged influence-peddling, specifically regarding a $200,000 “loan repayment” from the hospital network Americore where O’Connor had worked with the president’s brother, James Biden.

As had been noted, in February, the president had an appointment with O’Connor at Walter Reed Medical Center the same day that his son Hunter Biden participated in closed-door testimony with the committee.

Turner asserted that more questions would be asked as she informed Fox News anchor Bill Hemmer, “We have a press briefing coming up at 1:30. We’ll be asking…the press secretary about it.”
