The president’s cognitive clearance and alleged influence-peddling converged as House Republicans sought answers from the White House physician on a $200,000 “loan repayment.”
In the wake of COVID, a healthy and understandable amount of skepticism has been directed at the medical profession. House Oversight and Accountability Chairman James Comer (R-KY) added doubt to the integrity of the field when he requested an interview with White House physician Dr. Kevin O’Connor regarding a potential conflict of interest between diagnoses of President Joe Biden and his “private business endeavors with the Biden family.”
Sunday, a letter sent by Comer pointed to inconsistent claims from 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue on whether or not the octogenarian had seen a doctor after his debate performance after pointing out past work with the incumbent’s brother, James Biden.
“On March 1, 2018, the same day James Biden received the $200,000 wire transfer from Americore into his bank account, James Biden wrote a check to his brother, Joe Biden, for $200,000 for a ‘loan repayment,'” the letter indicated with an image of the check that followed the influx of funds from the healthcare company focused on acquiring and managing rural hospitals. “In February of this year, the Committee conducted a transcribed interview with James Biden. During the interview, James Biden confirmed that you provided him counsel in connection with the alleged work he was performing for Americore.”
“Given your connections with the Biden family, the Committee also seeks to understand if you are in a position to provide accurate and independent reviews of the President’s fitness to serve,” stated Comer.

As it happened, the committee also had Hunter Biden as their guest for closed-door testimony in February on the same day that President Joe Biden made a trip to Walter Reed Medical Center for an appointment with O’Connor in the wake of Special Counsel Robert Hur’s report regarding Biden’s mental faculties.
During recent deflections from White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, she had seemingly confirmed that the president had not seen a doctor since that day despite his own claim to have been checked out after the debate.
“The statement by the White House Press Secretary and President Biden appear inconsistent, and the Committee seeks to understand the extent of your role at the White House at this time.”
Comer’s letter indicated that “After his disastrous debate performance, calls grew stronger from medical professionals that President Biden should undergo a cognitive test but were reportedly overridden by your ‘continued insistence that [President] Biden does not need testing…The President himself is unwilling or unable to provide insight.”
The opposition to testing came amid a recent report on visitor logs to the White House that showed Dr. Kevin Cannard, a neurologist with expertise on Parkinson’s disease, had been joined by cardiologist Dr. John E. Atwood and O’Connor in January to see Biden.
“The Oversight Committee is concerned your medical assessments have been influenced by your private business endeavors with the Biden family,” the chair indicated as he sought contact no later than July 14 to set up a time for an interview. Additionally, the Kentucky lawmaker insisted that “To understand the extent of your involvement in the Biden family’s financial activity, we request that you produce all documents and communications in your possession regarding Americore and James Biden.”
