‘He’s dug in’: Biden rejects calls to step aside in letter to Dems, says he’s ‘best person to beat Trump’

A reportedly “dug in” President Joe Biden issued a letter to Democrats about the future of his candidacy and chances against his GOP rival that prompted the reaction, “Buckle up, this may get even wilder.”

Having failed to allay the concerns of his own party since his debate debacle, the marble-mouthed incumbent resorted to the basement schtick of his 2020 run and let a statement do the talking for him as congressional Democrats and corporate media talking heads alike chose sides.

The two-page missive addressed to “Fellow Democrats” asserted, “The question of how to move forward has been well-aired for over a week now. And it’s time for it to end.”

“We have one job. And that is to beat Donald Trump. We have 42 days to the Democratic Convention and 119 days to the general election. Any weakening of resolve or lack of clarity about the task ahead only helps Trump and hurts us. It is time to come together, move forward as a unified party, and defeat Donald Trump,” the letter attributed to Biden concluded.

Captioning the message after Washington Post reporter Matt Viser had shared it on X, Outkick founder Clay Travis reacted, “Joe Biden isn’t going to step down. Read this letter. He basically says anyone trying to remove him is attacking democracy based on his success in the primary. Buckle up, this may get even wilder.”

Within the diatribe against former President Donald Trump, the presumptive Democrat nominee peddled his 3,900 delegates and knocked opposition from the likes of environmental lawyer Robert F. Kennedy and Minnesota Rep. Dean Phillips (D) after contending, “I have heard the concerns that people have–their good faith fears and worries about what is at stake in this election. I am not blind to them. Believe me, I know better than anyone the responsibility and the burden the nominee of our party carries.”

“I can respond to all this by saying clearly and unequivocally: I wouldn’t be running again if I did not absolutely believe I was the best person to beat Donald Trump in 2024,” the letter asserted.

Previously, during his damage control interview with ABC’s George Stephanopoulos, the self-styled Catholic Biden had toyed with blasphemy when he suggested he’d only drop out if God told him to, “but the Lord Almighty’s not coming down.”

That sanctimony was reinforced by an ally who told The Hill, even as House Democrats like Reps. Joseph Morelle (NY), Jerry Nadler (NY), Adam Smith (WA), and Mark Takano (CA) joined others and called for him to step aside, “He believes in his core that he understands the electorate and where Americans are and that he’s the one to do this, to win.”

“He’s dug in,” the ally added as another, Democratic strategist Steve Schale, tried inanely, “If you were to take his age out of the equation, no one would be arguing that he should drop out of this election.”

Still, as talk of the 25th Amendment continued to be bandied about, reactions to Biden’s letter couldn’t help but wonder who was actually responsible for perpetuating the campaign that even Michael Moore had dubbed the “cruelest form of elder abuse I’ve ever been forced to watch.”
