Florida Dem fat cat fact-checked into oblivion over claim McConnell was never asked to step down

John Morgan, a prominent Democratic megadonor based in Orlando, has remained steadfast in his support for President Joe Biden. This is despite the growing concerns and controversies surrounding the 81-year-old president’s mental acuity, a topic that has been widely discussed in political circles.

In a case of whataboutism, the Orlando-based ambulance chaser pointed to the health of Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) in a post shared on X: “Reminder that Mitch McConnell literally froze…on camera…unable to speak…TWICE…And noone asked him to step down. So .”

McConnell stopped talking and froze mid-sentence during a July 2023 press conference and had a similar incident in August of that year. Community Notes was quick to note that after the first incident, “President Trump called for McConnell to be replaced as GOP leader in an interview the following week.”

“Well, I thought it was sad. At the same time. I think it’s a shame that he went so far out to give Green New Deal money to Biden and the Democrats,” Trump said at the time. “But that was too bad. That was actually a sad thing to see. He had a bad fall, I guess and probably after effect of that, but it was also sad that he gave trillions and trillions and trillions of dollars to the Democrats to waste on the Green New Deal.”

Trump was far from alone in making such an assessment. Under the weight of the outcry, 82-year-old McConnell would soon announce he would step down as the Senate Republican leader in November. He has been Senate GOP leader for 16 years and is the longest-serving Senate leader in American history.

Morgan was full of excuses last week after Biden’s dismal debate performance, blaming Biden’s advisers and the debate format, suggesting that the president “over practiced and was drained.”

With a net worth somewhere around $700 million, Morgan reportedly spent more than $8 million of his own money to get medical marijuana legalized in Florida in 2016 and earlier this year, the trial attorney announced his support for Amendment 3, a constitutional amendment on the ballot in Florida this year that would legalize recreational weed.

Which means he may have smoked one too many bowls before the debate:

A key difference between Biden and McConnell, of course, is that only one carries the nuclear codes with him everywhere he goes.

Here’s a quick sampling of responses to the story, as seen on X:
