NYU Alumni Club in Los Angeles: 15th Annual Holiday Party on Ice!

This year, the NYU Alumni Club in Los Angeles partnered with 3 other local NYU alumni clubs (Tisch West, Stern LA, Gallatin LA) to host a restructured version of our biggest and most beloved event—the annual NYU alumni holiday party.

The 15th Annual Holiday Party on Ice! took place on Sunday, December 5, 2021 in the heart of historic downtown Los Angeles yielding over 200 registrants. To channel our New York State of Mind on the West Coast as well as creatively comply with all local and state COVID-19 precautions, the NYU Alumni Club in LA exclusively reserved an outdoor ice-skating rink for NYU alumni, families, and friends to enjoy the LA “winter” and reconnect with a classic East Coast tradition. The club provided rental skates and hosted hot chocolate bar with delicious toppings, and we partnered with UDAR staff to distribute NYU winter swag (e.g. scarves and gloves) to early arrivals.

Hosting this annual holiday party outdoors with a family-friendly activity was a complete and welcomed paradigm shift from our typically happy hour-style holiday party. Seeing alumni with their families, friends, and little ones sparked some much needed joy following what has been an incredibly challenging time for all.

As the event ended, an alum approached club leaders to say “I'm a native New Yorker and have missed ice skating so much since I moved to LA. Thank you for putting together such a memorable event for me and my family.”

Creating meaningful and engaging alumni events like this is why we volunteer for our beloved alumni community, and we couldn't think of a more meaningful event than this one. Given this event's success, the NYU Alumni Club in LA plans to host this ice skating holiday event in the years to come.
