There are lots of lovely qualities and features at this hotel but sadly I don't think I would stay again or necessarily recommend without some warnings.... The good: Lovely reception area, friendly staff, amazing view out to sea, great location for walking into Agios Nikolaos, cocktails + food good and the rooms are modern and lovely (if you get the right location). The Not so good: Some of the rooms have views of a wall, my parents and Brother were unfortunately given one of these rooms each initially, not really a great start, however give the hotel their due - they were able to move them the next day. I heard others complaining about these rooms and can't help but think the majority of customers who end up in those rooms complain. I had a plunge pool room, but the location was right above the pool bar - the balconies are made of glass, which means that there is zero privacy, I didn't feel comfortable entering the plunge pool directly in eye level view. Lovely idea but not really practical. There was also a bit of a smelly drain smell in the bathroom area which wasn't the most pleasant. I had a couple of issues in my room (lights turning on in the middle of the night, phone beeping repetitively despite no missed calls/messages) These were sorted after being reported. I didn't receive water in my room daily, no problem to go to the supermarket and by 2 litres for a Euro but you should really have water in the room in a 5* hotel! Breakfast was enjoyable but you could do with some more shade for the outside tables. The Terrible: This hotel has a real issue with lack of sunbeds, and the current policy they have in place creates a hostile and chaotic start to peoples day. The pool is closed until 8.30am each morning, they have a team member policing this. Hotel guests begin to gather, and wait to race to claim a bed, its honestly the most ridiculous method I have experienced in any hotel, let alone a 5* hotel! There were people arguing, people being pushed, it was creating a horrific start to what is meant to be a relaxing day! If people were able to turn up at any time they wanted from 8am say...it wouldn't cause this. Police the towels being on the bed for longer than 30 mins with no one on there but don't herd people up and watch chaos unfold! This ruined the experience totally and would certainly put me off ever returning!

Lots of good qualities, but much to be improved!

Wow! Where to start. Me and my partner booked this as our annual relaxation holiday back in January, for July. Crete was our ideal destination and Mgallery NIKO seaside resort stood out amongst a lot of the other hotels on offer. When looking for a hotel, the 3 main things we look for are luxury, aesthetics and facilities. NIKO boasts all of these qualities and then some! On arrival we were greated with a welcome drink and a cold flannel (so refreshing and tasty!). After a smooth check in process we were escorted to our room by a lovely member of staff. After being shown around the room, guided on how to use the air con and given all of the necessary information - it was time to explore our abode for the next 8 nights. Crickets… we were speechless. Easily the best hotel room I have ever experienced/stayed in. Our room of choice was a Deluxe sea view room with plunge pool and WOW. It exceeded our expectations massively. The view was unreal, the plunge pool was extremely relaxing ( I never want to stay in a hotel without one now, this has set the standard!), the Clarins toiletries oozed luxury, the self closing blinds were chefs kiss, the maid service was on point, water being delivered every afternoon was so thoughtful, beach towels provided in the room saved faffing and the shower is very simple to work. We settled in very quickly and decided to explore the hotel on our second day (late arrival). Breakfast has something for everyone. It was organised and staff are very attentive. Stock levels were always high and a great drinks selection. Including champagne! Chicken sausages were on offer. As an individual that doesn’t eat pork, this was lovely to see, 10/10. NIKO has 2 pools, one on the 5th floor and one on the 9th floor. Both pools are infinity style pools with breathtaking views and sun loungers/2 person sun beds surrounding them. Bar staff were on hand for both pools, with a swift click of a button, drinks and snacks can be ordered to your sun lounger/2 person sun bed. Ideal! My one small criticism is the lack of sun beds around the pool. 0/7 days we were able to chill around the pool due to it being so full or people reserving the beds with a towel and then going about their day. The solution to the above would be the private beach the hotel has the offer. Just as good in my eyes! Again, bar staff on hand at a click of a button, a lifeguard on duty, THE clearest water you have ever set foot in. We bought some goggles and due to the water being so clear, you can view all of the fish swimming around your feet. It was so fun! Day 4, we rented a car. Within 10 minutes of enquiring at the hotel desk, the car was on its way to the hotel. Extremely smooth and BYRON car rentals were very informative and helpful. They came to collect the car the next morning. We paid €100 for an automatic Fiat 500 for the day. Insurance etc included. Good deal! Day 3, we had a massage. The spa receptionist did amazing at fitting us both in on the same day! We both had a 60 minute de-stress massage, I think it was called that. Absolutely perfect and very relaxing. All in all, I cannot fault this stay one bit. I was given the ultimate relaxation holiday that we all dream of. Every detail was perfect and I feel very lucky to have experienced a stay in this hotel. I will be back in the future, I’m certain. I cannot believe we got a Thankyou gift, so thoughtful and something I have never had before from a hotel. Thankyou so much for an amazing holiday.
