First time at Sofitel and we really enjoyed our stay. Room 206 was very well maintained by the staffs namely, Noura and David. Food was great at the restaurant, a la carte menu was up to our taste. Special thanks to Shivani for catering to our needs and to wassim for always saying hello during dinner. Another good point about the hotel is it's calm surroundings which was just what we needed

Came to Mauritius on business purposes and first time at So Sofitel. One thing that I can highlight is the attention of staff,I would say they're the star of the hotel. I had dinner at Le flamboyant and the steak was just marvelous, special thanks to the chef. The surroundings was really peaceful, which was great for winding off. I had a short Stay but looking forward to book it soon for a vacation. Last but not least, thank you to Mr. Pradeep, Rajeev who made sure I got to the parking in good vibes and always greeted me with a smile !

All of the staff we met, were extremely friendly and tried to be helpful. Our best experience we had with the staff from the restaurant Flamboyage, with very special thanks to our „favourites“ Levi and Anastasija. Both of them were unbelievably exceptional – so they deserve a separate thank you. Levi is very professional and manages the dinner service (supervisor) including advising his colleagues, who clearly respect and listen to him. His could just as easily work in every high-gastronomy establishment without need of further training or anything. He is extremely competent and we are very happy, to have had a chance to meet him, since he is very pleasant and easy to get along with. Anastasija, who was mostly the supervisor at breakfast service, was equally as professional and sweet and also made us a small gift of local honey, because we so enjoyed it – which of course was particularly sweet. We wish them both all the best for their future carreers and personal lives. The room service staff was also very friendly, they came twice a day (in the morning to make the bed etc and during the evening to ask, whether we need anything – water etc – and to prepare the room for the night). Nandini and Manisha from room service, that we met several times during our stay, were genuinly concerned with our well-being and/or satisfaction regarding the room. Those two also made a small gift to us, as well as their collegue who brought us milk for the starving cats (regarding cats see below). Special thank you also to Avinash, from reception service/guest welcoming: he was always instisting (in a very charming way of course) on driving us to our room (even though we wanted to walk for some movement J). He was genuinly taking interest in how our day went and also gave us suggestions and recommendations every single time, which was very nice and also helpful. We have gotten an early check-in from Manisha from reception (which was very pleasant after almost 24h trip) and also late check-out by her friendly collegue Vishnu. After reading some other reviews from other guests, we have decided to write about some of the negative moments as well. None of those ruined our vaaction, we were very happy there, but in regard to the fact, that it is a 5* hotel, they are noteworthy and the Hotel ought to do something in order to keep claiming 5*: Hotel complex and rooms: Of only two restaurans for the whole complex, only one was working. We were told, the Beach restaurant is on renovation, however no renovation works were done/visible. It was clearly simply closed due the fact that it is off season. Again it is no crime to reduce employee/workload off season, when there are less guests, just bad handling by the hotel. The „gym“ is barely a gym, I have seen 3* hotels with better gym equipment. Only 3 or 4 machines for cardio, one „all-in“ machine and a small free weights section. Not even really enough place for some mat-workout. There is a yoga section in the spa, which might be used, but its not attached to the „gym“. Tennis court is available (condition is merely acceptable i would say, closer tot he edges oft he court its quite bumpy and uneven, rackets also not the best, but acceptable for vacational playing). The complex was built beautifully and clearly thought through, however it is old now. Some appliances clearly havent been changed since opening etc.To name a few: - The blinds between sleeping area and bathroom were loud and extremely dirty, they are made of some "hard" textile – so the replacement is neither extraordinary expensive nor complicated. - The bed had some movable cussions around it (you can see it on the hotels pictures), the connecting velcro fasteners were not holding them together anymore and would move all the time. - In general most of the textiles (towels etc) had stains. They were washed and clean, but just stained from years of use and lots fibers were sticking out. I assume, there are also not enough towels of all sizes, since some days we got a full set of towels (beach, shower, face and hand) and on other days – despite asking – just shower towels and nothing else. - No hot water in the room. It was warm at best (and on some days simply cold) and the water pressure has defitenly been better (even for an island). People who like hot showers might not be happy. - Minibar is basically inexistent. We did have a coffee machine and water heater, BUT teas and coffees are chargable. To drink coffee in the room, it has to be ordered and paid for extra… But they did bring water to the room everyday (free of extra charge). Snacks etc completely inexistent, fortunately we didnt need them. Overall it just felt and seemed like the Sofitel chain just sent „old“ things and applicances from their other hotels with higher standads to their branch in Mauritius. However we have to note, they did do some small „renovational“ works during our stay (painting the pool etc) so we just hope the hotel already started doing something about those things… Hotels handling of staff/Management: Now this is an entirely different matter. While the employees were trying to do their job as good as possible, several of them made it clear and/or it was obvious anyways, how the Management „forces“ them to additional obligations (e.g.): while it might seem nice to many guests to receive gifts from the hotel, we found it very unpleasant for the hotel to force SINGLE employees to buy small gifts on their own money and gift them to the guests. Dont get me wrong: it is totally accepted to make gifts to guests, BUT this is the hotels responsibility. To burden single employees, then force them to document it by taking pictures showing the guests holding those presents, left a very weird feeling and made it quite obvious, that there is an internal ranking system within the hotel. Again – it is okay and normal for hotels to have internal ranking or similar for their employees, BUT the guests should not be involved in internal hotel policies. By requesting foto documentation from the employees, the Management involves theirs guests in its obligations, which in this specific form is not accaptable. There are many ways to ensure the guests satisfaction with the staff (and also provide the chance of giving feedback to specific employees), but in our opinion, this handling had a very „bad aftertaste“. The poor staff – who i am sure are not getting over-paid anyways – is now in addition trying to earn "points" from the hotel by buying presents and providing foto-documentation (btw on their private phones!) Cats: The Hotel does have an issue with stray cats. We personally didnt mind (we have dogs ourselves) BUT a 5* hotel has to ensure, that no stray animals live on their property. The cats were clearly extremely hungry, they were coming to rooms and the restaurant. They would sit under the table and wine loudly, asking for some food. The only thing the hotels' management did, was send employees to guests saying not to feed the cat in the restaurant. Gladly – from a dicreet human point of view – there were several guests, who did feed the cats, since it was just heartbreaking listening to them. A resort like Sofitel (being paid very much) is obliged to provide a specific standard, which they did not meet. They transferred their responsibility for the cats to the guests – making it our responsibility. Instead they should either provide the animals with proper food and accomodation (therefore they would not need to beg guests) or make sure, that no animals live there. „Yeah we know, but we cannot do anything about it, you/guests have to stop feeding them“ is no appropriate reaction from the Hotel. Interesting fact though: pets are not allowed in the hotel :) Those are ALL minor inconveniences (if even such and did not really matter to us personally) but from a Sofitel chain hotel we definitely expected something else.

Great hotel i enjoyed it with my friends, the service, the staffs all were excellent. From arrival, room to fnb services, we had a great service. The reflexology massage and the hammam experience were just amazing. Will come again. Thank you.

Family of 5, booked 3 rooms, to our disappointment we had several issues such as the phone was damaged, minibar was hot rather than cold. The electrical blind broke- we were told by reception it is normal and the hotel is old. Requesting for a full refund
