Palace in Shanghai

Location is suitable if you are traveling from the SHA airport and very near to the train station. Hotel is as luxury as a palace. We stayed in a room that allow us to the lounge access which serves very good vegetarian dinner. The attendant here tried her best to fulfil our demand. Hotel has a lady attendant in the lounge that could speak English her name is Raquel she was very polite and helpful.

Much room for improvement for a 5-star hotel

Room Type: Superior Room (Club Millesime Access) Nights stayed: 4 nights 1) What we liked: - Accor Platinum status was honoured and we were upgraded to a club room - Hotel is near to Hongqiao Train Station (5 - 10 minutes away by Didi/Taxi), which was good for our days trips to Suzhou/Hangzhou. 2) What could be better: Breakfast - Breakfast quality and service could be improved. The variety of food is ok but the quality of each dish was a quite disappointing or pretty bad taste-wise. - We stayed 4 nights in total - had breakfast early (around 7am) for 3 out of the 4 nights we stayed and all was good in general, apart from the below average food. However, for 1 of the days where we decided to have a later breakfast (9am), it was a mess at the buffet trays (perhaps due to other hotel guests rummaging through the food). In addition, a lot of the food was cold and unappetising. They also told us they ran out of eggs for the day at the egg station (this was at 9am and breakfast was till 1030am). Most tables were also not cleared and instead of being assigned a seat, the system was pretty much find your own seat after telling the staff your room number. My recommendation would definitely be to head for breakfast earlier. Club Lounge - Food at the lounge was mediocre at best. (We didn’t head back for the food again after we tried it once during our 4 nights here) It did have the standard drinks (Coke, Sprite, Beer, Tonic water, etc). 3) Note: - We arrived early and paid for early check-in at around 9:45am. We were charged half a day’s room rate. Not sure if this should have been waived given we booked directly via Accor and as a Platinum member, I thought that one of the benefit is early check-in if rooms were available. Nonetheless, we took a red-eye flight and were glad there was an early check-in option. - Do note lounge is open 1pm-9pm (when we visited in May 2024) and breakfast service is served at the main area and not the lounge - Lastly, I would recommend this hotel if you are intending to explore other cities using Shanghai as a base (as hotel is located near Hongqiao train station - by didi/taxi) However, if you are only visiting Shanghai, do note that this hotel is very far from the city centre and it takes about 1 - 1.5 hours (depending on traffic) to get to the city area and also Shanghai Pudong Airport (where most international flights are).

Fast deteriorating airport dormitory

Fast deteriorating, tobacco smoke, and synthetic fragrance fugged, expensive airport hotel in a liminal setting overlooking too many lanes of series of motorways to count visible through filthy rotting windows shrouded in repeatedly repaired yellowing net curtains. Lights in room have two settings: brighter than the sun or darker than the dark side of the moon. Weird beds evoke falling into a coffin and offer nil support. Odd machine noises in wall persist all night and day. Buffet staff do not speak english nor replenish items - and the food quality is poor. Very few amenities provided. Don't subject yourself to this faux palace.

Staying at Sofitel Shanghai Hongqiao is always a comfy and enjoyable experience. The sprawling and magnificent architecture, the swanky décor, hotel’s modern facilities and heartful staff, all of that bring us with an unforgettable experience of authentic luxury that the Sofitel brand spearheads. A great staying experience in a hotel is the result of the collaborative efforts paid by its people. We would like to give our special thanks to those people who make that wonderful stay with Sofitel Shanghai Hongqiao for us: Front Office, Front Desk & Executive Lounge: Christina, Annie, Andrey, Amy, Raquel, Noelia Restaurant: Sunny Engineering Department: 蘆心兵, 陳運紅 We look forward to coming back soon in the future!

Not a good choice in Shanghai, poor manteinance and most of the staff does not speak English

Most of the staff, since the front desk to the room service, does not speak English. Also the property is neglected. The building is beautiful, but the administration and maintenance is poor. I chose this hotel because is close to the train station but it was a bad choice.
