Choosing a vacation hotel tends to require balancing different forces (well unless you are financially unconstrained). The Novotel Madrid is not perfect but it is very good on a number of fronts. It is very close to the airport (20’ from terminal 1 in the 24H bus, with the bus stop 200 m from the hotel), it is relatively close (30’ walking) to Retiro/Barrio de Salamanca and 200 m from El Corte Ingles (Goya), the hotel per se is ok (with the add on of a very good good breakfast), and the price was among the best available when we made the reservation. This is a big hotel with lots of guests and so it is the opposite of some of the boutique places we have recently been. But taken all together is a nice choice.

Novotel central Madrid disappointing.

Busy hotel in good location to eateries, supermarkets, public transport. Basic Novotel room, rather dated. Mats under seating areas in foyer were absolutely filthy. Time wasted on second morning with them switching location of breakfast. Breakfast is usual fare for buffet. Only one out of 4 coffee machines working. Had to share table with strangers due to insufficient seating. No tea/coffee/kettle. Air con ok. Poor water pressure in showers. Worst Novotel for service and cleanliness we have ever stayed at, would class at 2 stars.

This is the second time I have stayed at the Novotel Madrid Centre and I hope I never am put up in this hotel again. While facilities are good and the daily breakfast is sumptuous, their wifi and general hospitality and service is just awful..the staff are just complacent and don't care about looking after their guests. They simply don't respond to service queries and rudeness is the order of the day

Hot rooms. Disabled AC stuck in vent mode. When Thermostat says 19 actual temp is 24. Front desk gives you runaround excuses. Management lack of care or attention to detail. Why does this matter? easy. Not everyone enjoys hot rooms and lack of control over thermostat. Even in winter, given Madrid has temps that fluctuate. Open window and enjoy loud noise, so no help there for cooling. Personally I would pick Marriott any day over Novotel. The difference in these mega chains is in the attention to detail. This hotel is self proclaimed as 4 stars. In actuality I would give it 2. Hit or miss service. Depressing dark rooms with no upgrades or improvements in over a decade. Company gets us these cheapy rooms and hotel acts accordingly. Well since you insist in offering mediocre service I will keep rating accordingly. Lots of choices in Madrid, this is one to avoid

Just spent a few days with family, hotel is centric (not center but very close), it is walking distance from El Retiro park. There are many restaurants and shops around. Big hotel, super fast check-in. Breakfast buffet was very good too, a bit crowded maybe buy i guess it depends of the time. Big rooms, and excellent beds, very comfy.
