You are invited to join members of the African Pangolin Working Group at the Darwin Room of the CIRCA art gallery on Johannesburg's famous Keyes Art Mile.

Arrive early and enjoy a cup of warming soup around the fire pit, an autumn harvest table and a welcome glass of wine supplied by our friends at Painted Wolf Wines.

Watch an artist create his art, and learn about our efforts to save pangolins from extinction. Our guest speaker, Pippa Ehrlich, Academy Award winning writer and director of My Octopus Teacher is sure to enthrall us with her views on conservation and her latest project which highlights pangolins. Support our work by taking part in an auction both in person on the night and online. The auction features specially created pangolin artworks from Southern African artists, luxury items and a stay at a private lodge in Timbavati Nature reserve.

There is a lot of goodness at the end of the fibonacci spiral that is CIRCA Gallery.

Pangolins have been on this earth for 80 million years, and are now on the brink of extinction. Help us to help them because it is only TOGETHER that we can save pangolins.

Conferences

In September 2021, the African Pangolin Working Group successfully hosted the second international pangolin conference, at Skukuza Camp in the Kruger National Park in South Africa.

This conference brought together scientists, animal welfare and animal rights organisations, conservationists and government officials from across global pangolin range states to share their knowledge and expertise gained from their experience and research in pangolin ecology, biology, conservation, rehabilitation, cultural use and trade.

Delegates attended in person or virtually via video conferencing and represented research conducted in pangolin range states as well as other concerned countries, including, Benin, Botswana, Cameroon, Czech Republic, Democratic Republic of the Congo, France, India, Malasia, Malawi, Namibia,  Nepal, Nigeria, South Africa, Sri Lanka, United Kingdom, United States of America and Zimbabwe.

This was a successful follow up to the first international conference on pangolin conservation, trade and rehabilitation in South Africa which was held in October 2015.

By sharing their findings, all delegates are able to better understand these rare and little-understood mammals that are now all closer to extinction and regarded as the most traded mammals in the world.

Workshops

Workshops are held more regularly for people who work in areas where they are likely to come into contact with pangolins. The focus of these workshops is to teach the best practice for handling, transportation, rehabilitation and release of compromised Temminck’s ground pangolins retrieved from the illegal wildlife trade in South Africa.

Topics covered include legal information, handling, transportation, veterinary care, rehabilitation and release protocols.

If your organisation is interested in hosting a workshop, please contact us.
