Saudi: NEOM awards $84.3mn EPC contract for Al Badaa water recycling plant NEOM has awarded a contract for engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) as well as testing and commissioning a water recycling plant at Al Badaa. The contract is worth over $84.3 million (SAR316 million) and has been awarded to a joint consortium of International Water Distribution Company (Tawzea) and Spanish water and environment system specialist Lantania. The scope of the work includes engineering, procurement, construction, testing and commissioning for the Al Badaa water recycling plant enhancements projects, as well as an interim biosolids treatment facility, an interim innovation centre and a biosolids demonstration centre. Giga-projects propel Saudi Arabia’s construction boom amid global interest, study says Saudi Arabia’s state-backed initiatives, including NEOM and Vision 2030, are driving growth in the construction sector, attracting substantial domestic and international investments, an analysis showed.     In its latest report, global consultancy firm Turner & Townsend highlighted that the construction activities are also driven by the Kingdom’s preparations for EXPO 2030 and the 2034 FIFA World Cup.    This comes as Saudi Arabia emerged as the leader in global construction activity for the first quarter, with the Kingdom having $1.5 trillion of projects in the pipeline, according to a report released earlier this month by real estate services firm JLL.  The JLL analysis further highlighted that the Kingdom accounted for a 39 percent share of the total construction projects in the Middle East and North Africa region, valued at $3.9 trillion.    Ready to be part of KSA's remarkable journey? Giga-projects boost investment in the Middle East, but supply chain imbalance remains The Middle East’s ambitious giga-projects and state-backed developments are driving construction activity across the region. This rapid investment, paired with inflation falls and economic diversification, continues to attract global talent while also impacting supply chain capacity. The International construction market survey (ICMS) 2024 report, from global professional services company Turner & Townsend, shows that rising demand, particularly in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA), is pushing up construction costs.   Riyadh is the region’s most expensive city to build in at US$2,593 per m2, as the Saudi capital benefits from accelerated growth. Both domestic and foreign funds are capitalising on state-backed initiatives such as NEOM and the 2030 Vision. AlBawani expects revenue to grow to $7.2bn by 2027 AlBawani Holding Company, a diversified Saudi conglomerate, registered a growth of 39 per cent last year, and anticipates its revenue to increase to SR27 billion ($7.20 billion) by 2027, Eng Fakher Alshawaf, Chairman and Group Chief Executive of the company, has said. The group, which was established in 1991, currently operates in several sectors including construction, specialised contracting, water and power, facility management, manufacturing, MEP solutions, technology, and investment in public-private partnerships (PPPs).
