Meet Maya Bonkoungou from the Netherlands, who has joined us for her graduation internship from Breda University of Applied Sciences, where she is in the final three months of obtaining a bachelor’s degree in international Hotel Management. Maya is currently undertaking a PR & Communications internship within our corporate office, gaining a strategic and global perspective by exploring diverse activities across various markets. She enjoys working in a challenging and dynamic environment alongside a team of five women who inspire her to push herself and grow daily. Some of her favorite tasks include assisting in organising on-property photoshoots, and drafting content for internal communication channels, and she looks forward to delving into the world of social media and learning about Jumeirah’s social strategies. Last night, Jumeirah Burj Al Arab hosted a spectacular gala dinner celebrating 20 years of the Dubai Turtle Rehabilitation Project (DTRP), ahead of World Sea Turtle Day and World Ocean Month 2024. The event highlighted the importance of community engagement in global conservation, bringing together scientists, artists, NGOs, businesses, and government representatives. As part of the 20th anniversary celebration of the Dubai Turtle Rehabilitation Programme (DTRP), Jumeirah proudly released 63 rehabilitated turtles back into the wild. This significant event underscores the success of the DTRP, which, since its launch in 2004, has rescued and rehabilitated over 2,175 turtles.   To further raise awareness about marine conservation, Jumeirah hosted a panel discussion titled ‘Out of Sight is not Out of Mind: Our Collective Responsibility to Preserve our Ocean’. Held in Dubai just before World Sea Turtle Day on 16th June, the panel featured globally renowned experts including H.E. Razan Al Mubarak (IUCN), Barbara Lang-Lenton (DTRP lead), Jo Ruxton MBE (Ocean Generation), and Dr. Juan Antonio Romero (Mission Blue).
