Suspect surrenders to LAPD officers after bizarre pursuit, spike strip deployed

Around 12:40 p.m., the woman behind the wheel of the reportedly stolen vehicle stopped in front of a spike strip that was deployed by Los Angeles Police Department officers in the middle of a street in Van Nuys.

The officers the confronted the suspect with their guns drawn.

The woman exited the sedan through a driver's side window. After walking backward toward police with her hands up, she lay down on the pavement and was handcuffed without incident.

No passengers were found inside the vehicle.

Stolen car driver flees from authorities in San Fernando Valley

The driver of a reportedly stolen car was fleeing from authorities Tuesday afternoon in the San Fernando Valley.

The pursuit was officially canceled by the Los Angeles Police Department around 12:15 p.m., and patrol units on the ground stopped following the silver sedan. Whether a law enforcement helicopter remained overhead was unclear.

Shortly after 12:30 p.m., the driver pulled over near the intersection of Raymer Street and Kester Avenue in Van Nuys and remained inside the vehicle.
