Discount giant Walmart announced Friday that it plans to close its store at 3579 South High Street this month.

That location is in south Columbus, and a Walmart spokesman said in a news release that the store "hasn't performed as well as we hoped, and we made the decision to not renew the lease."

The store will close to the public on Feb. 16.

The release also said all employees are eligible to transfer to another store, and will be paid through May 3. After that point, those unable to transfer to another store will get severance pay.

The store's pharmacy, however, will remain open until March 4 and then will offer to transfer prescriptions to other Walmart locations for customers, the release said.
