Green Mortuary was established in the 1960s by two brothers who already had a successful funeral business in another state. With an established name, the new funeral home became quite popular over the following decades. In the 1990s, the owners were entangled in a legal battle with state authorities over proper maintenance of the building and surrounding property. The stress of the legal situation caused conflict between the brothers leading the older brother to buy out his younger sibling, making him the sole proprietor. The older brother continued operating the funeral home until his health began to decline. The owner retired in 2018 and closed the funeral home, leaving behind all sorts of equipment, embalming tools, death certificates, and nearly a dozen boxes of cremated remains. In the back of the building was a unique find, a small three-body morgue cooler.

That’s a lot of damage throughout for a funeral home that’s only been closed a little over 4 years. The cremated remains and the three-body storage freezer is quite creepy. I’ve seen a lot of closed funeral homes over time, but this the first time I’ve seen a left behind cremated human remains and a body storage freezer. I can’t imagine anyone would be interested in this place.
