First opening in 1989, this nearly 4,000-square-foot funeral home in Fayette, Alabama featured a cozy little chapel, a small visitation room, a casket display room, and a large embalming room. During its years of operation, the funeral home was quite successful, mainly due to being one of only three funeral homes in the area. The owner, Johnathan McPherson, is also a reverend as well as a funeral director, which can be common with the small family-operated funeral homes. It also helped that he was very well known and respected in the community, as he was a one-time politician and had even fought for Civil Rights in the early 1960s, most notably alongside Martin Luther King, Jr.
Reverend McPherson’s health problems began to plague him, and it was only a matter of time before he would not be able to continue to perform funeral services and service families. By 2017, the funeral home had permanently closed and was placed for sale. As of 2022, the once-successful funeral home remains vacant and in disrepair. The building was cleaned out in 2023 and the property was later sold.

Did anyone ever put the business up for sale?

Yes, when it closed in 2017, it was put up for sale. No buyer as of 2022.

The hearse is a little outdated, but the funeral home itself looks to be in good condition still. I take it the owner had no kids or family members who wished to carry on the business. Sad to let it sit permanently closed as it was only one of three funeral homes in the area.
