826 Valencia’s Educational Programs Internship is an opportunity to learn about the field of education in a non-profit environment! In the educational programs track, you will grow your skills as an educator and provide consistent, culturally-responsive support to youth from under-resourced communities.
To support hands-on learning, Educational Programs interns receive direct coaching, dedicated training, and professional development throughout their experience. Day-to-day, interns learn about effective writing instruction by tutoring 2nd-12th grade students in small groups, helping prepare our students’ work for publication, assisting our staff around the classroom, and creating a welcoming, fun, and inclusive atmosphere for student learning.
We are committed to fostering an environment of diversity, equity, inclusion, and we encourage Black, Indigenous, and people of color to apply. To better support our student population, we also encourage applicants with Spanish and Arabic language skills to apply.

Stipend Information: We have limited stipends available and will prioritize those with financial need, current or returning 826 Valencia interns, and 826 Valencia student alumni. Applicants must commit to the full school year timeline for consideration. Stipends will be paid in installments of $800-$1400 per month, depending on time commitment level.
Please note: 826 Valencia’s Internship program is an educational opportunity for students who are currently enrolled in college; there may be limited part-time roles for non-college students. - Minimum commitment of 10-20 hours per week
- Ability to regularly commute to San Francisco (Mission, Mission Bay, and/or Tenderloin neighborhoods)
- Ability to attend all required intern training and professional development sessions: 8/21 from 9:30-12:30, 9/6 from 3:00-5:30, 2nd Fridays from 3:00-5:30 (10/11, 11/8, 12/13, 2/14, 3/14, 4/11, and 5/9)
- Required schedule of weekdays between 8am - 2pm to serve in-school programs and field trips and/or 2pm - 8pm to work with after-school programs
- Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, as well as our mission of supporting youth ages 6-18 with their creative and expository writing skills
- Commitment to learning about the educational nonprofit sector and effective tutoring; experience working with kids preferred
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Any fluency level in spoken and/or written Spanish, Mandarin, Cantonese, and/ or Arabic is a plus
- Proficiency with Google Suite and Zoom preferred
- Background check and TB Risk Assessment (required upon position acceptance)
