Field Trips

Read on to learn about our Field Trips!

We offer Field Trips at three different locations, and each location provides different programs.

I was really blown away at what a creative experience it was for kids, and it was touching that kids got so much individual attention and interest … All of the kids kept saying how much fun they had, and that they thought writing was going to be boring, but that they were wrong!"

— Alana Herron, Presidio Middle School teacher

Storytelling and Bookmaking and Choose Your Own Adventure

Location: 826 Valencia St.
Grades: Grades 2nd-5th (24-32 max depending on field trip type).
Duration: 2 hrs

At the Mission Center, our field trips are an exciting, collaborative storytelling adventure, in which students create a one-of-a-kind book that they can publish and take home (after seeking approval from our curmudgeonly editor, a former pirate by the name of Captain Blue). These in-person field trips reinforce writing vocabulary and concepts while encouraging students to use their imaginations and see themselves as authors. We offer three different field trip styles, Storytelling & Bookmaking for 2nd-4th grade, Modified Storytelling and Bookmaking for 3rd-5th grade, and Choose Your Own Adventure for 4th-5th grade.

I have recommended this program to all my teacher friends and will continue to do so! The support given to students with their writing, developing an idea, writing multiple drafts, and turning it into a podcast, truly does amplify their voices and is simply not something I would be able to do on my own in my classroom."

Mission Bay Enchanted Forest Field Trip

Location: 1310 4th Street
Grades: 3rd-5th (30 students max)
Duration: 2.5 hrs

Adventure is out there and our Magical Bear is always looking for stories to read in the Enchanted Forest.

At our Mission Bay Center (1310 4th St.), students will learn the origins of how our Enchanted Forest came to be and then work alongside tutors to brainstorm ideas to write a traveling adventure story and illustrate a comic to go with it.

We are pausing Field Trips to our Mission Bay Center for the remainder of the 2023-24 school year, but this Field Trip will resume at the start of the 2024-25 school year.
