Ms. Bartkowski is our December Teacher of the Month!

We are delighted to announce Annie Bartkowski as our December 2022 Teacher of the Month! Ms. Bartkowski is a 6th, 7th, and 8th grade Newcomer English Language Development teacher at Everett Middle School and has been teaching for eight years. She is being recognized for her passion, work ethic, and commitment to her students, school, and community.

Ms. Bartkowski is dedicated to providing the best education she can for her students. One of her colleagues shared that Ms. Bartkowski “truly embodies the spirit of taking this job, which can be so difficult, and running with it to make magic—kids beg me on the regular to be in her classroom.”

She also “makes students feel special and welcome. As a Newcomer teacher, she regularly gets new students who are arriving at school sometimes in their first week within the U.S. I have seen Annie welcome students, connect with them, and remember even the smallest details about them even after their first meeting. Kids feel incredibly at ease in her room and it allows deep learning to happen.”

Ms. Bartkowski’s extraordinary commitment to her newcomer students at Everett Middle School helps recently arrived immigrant students adjust to a new language and culture. “She teaches with empathy for her students, while still pushing them to grow in their English abilities by multiple levels each school year. Her warmth and character welcomes kids and the deep learning they experience keeps them there.”

As an outstanding educator, Ms. Bartkowski’s thoughtful and consistent support for her classroom and community at Everett Middle School has shifted her school’s “instructional lens in ways that make us all more inclusive of our newcomers, some of our most vulnerable students. When I think of anti-racist teaching practice, Annie’s push for all of us to think deeply about our least-reached kids and solutions-oriented thinking has made a major impact on Everett as a learning community.”
