Mayor Eric Adams and other city officials are launching a new effort to reduce garbage on the streets and cut down on the rat population.
Beginning in November, apartment buildings with at least nine units will be required to put garbage in new trash containers. That means those piles of garbage will no longer be stacked up on city sidewalks.
“Today, we are tossing even more black bags into the dustbin of history and taking the next step forward in our ‘Trash Revolution,'" Mayor Adams said.
The city has also launched a new NYC Bin that will be available for New Yorkers to purchase.
