Best Restaurants in Notting Hill

The Ledbury is considered by many to be the best restaurant in London - it has two Michelin stars and features in the San Pellegrino world's 50 best restaurant list. Australian chef Brett Graham heads the kitchen where the menu is predominantly Modern European with well-sourced British ingredients. The Ledbury is in huge demand and tables are hard to come by - a great tip, however, is to visit when the weather is nice as they have a lovely terrace that they keep for walk-ins, or if those who have booked want to dine on the terrace, you can walk-in and get a table in the restaurant. The Ledbury is definitely one of the best restaurants in Notting Hill, if not the whole of London.

A well-known Australian chef with restaurants in Sydney and Japan, Bill Granger brought his relaxed, homely style of cooking to Notting Hill in 2012. In instant hot with the fashionable locals, Granger & Co has queues out of the door due to its popularity and no-booking policy. My favourite dishes are the courgette chips with nigella seed and tahini yoghurt and and the sweet corn fritters with roast tomato, spinach and bacon. The full Aussie breakfast is also very popular! The space is beautiful in an elegant, airy way. Granger & Co recently opened a second restaurant in Clerkenwell in East London.

One of my favourite Mexican restaurants in London, you can rarely go wrong with a dinner here. Offering an authentic Mexican menu without the gimmicks, Taqueria is a cafe specialising in Mexican tacos with traditional fillings; try the 'carne asada' with charcoal grilled steak or the 'cochinita pibil' with slow cooked pork marinated achiote and citrus juice. They make a mean, hand-shaken margarita at Taqueria and serve a variety of 100% blue agave tequilas, mezcales and Mexican beers. Taqueria started in 2005 from a stall on Portobello Road before moving to a permanent address on Westbourne Grove, a short walk from Notting Hill Gate.

A part of the Soho House Group, Pizza East Portobello is housed over two florrs of a restored Georgian pub on Portobello Road in Notting Hill. With a range a wood oven cooked dishes and antipasti but pizzas as the real draw here. Choose from favourites such as veal meatballs with prosciutto, cream and sage; burrata with tomato, black olives and oregano and crispy pork belly, tomato and mushrooms. Pizza East Portobello includes a deli offering Italian cured meats and cheeses. Sit at a stool and watch the open ground floor kitchen or head upstairs to the casual dining room and terrace.

Not to be mistaken by its slightly more traditional Mayfair location, El Pirata, this is the sleek, slightly more hip Notting Hill location, El Pirata Detapas. The restaurant is cosy with simple decor - Spanish street art hangs from the walls and tables are arranged close together. The menu combines traditional and modern dishes from a long tapas menu; jamon, croquetas and pardon peppers sit alongside modern dishes such as poached egg at 65 centigrade with truffle and potato mush. For groups, there is a private dining room in the basement for up to 30 guests.

In a space that was once Leith's cookery school and, more recently, Notting Hill Brasserie, Notting Hill Kitchen is based in three Edwardian townhouses on a beautiful street in Notting Hill with plants and lanterns instantly creating a homely atmosphere. Specialising in Portuguese food (with some Spanish elements thrown in), the restaurants also offers a tapas menu in the bar with excellent Douro wines by the glass. If you can't stay for dinner, order a glass of wine and a plate of pata negra ham and you will be in your element! Notting Hill Kitchen feels grown up and proper while retaining a casual neighbourhood atmosphere and offering excellent Portuguese food and wine.

Hereford Road is a neighbourhood restaurant, located in a former butcher's shop with a daily changing menu. With simple and sparse interior, Hereford Road offers a seasonal British menu made from high quality ingredients. The whole-hearted and robust cooking of head chef Tom Pemberton, formerly of St John Bread and Wine, concentrates on offal, but also offers simple, yet accomplished, fish dishes. The wine list consists solely of Old World wines, available by the glass, carafe or bottle and lunch and dinner is served daily. Light and airy in the summer with the butcher's window open on to the street and warm and cosy in the winter thanks to the open kitchen, Hereford Road, like its ingredients, changes with the seasons.

Marianne is the eponymous restaurant of Marianne Lumb, who appeared in the finals of Masterchef the Professionals in 2009. With a Modern European offering, Marianne is tucked away in a corner Mews on Chepstow Road, making it a cosy affair with just 14 covers and 5 tables. Marianne is Lumb's first restaurant venture, serving seasonal and classic dishes made from the freshest of ingredients and a menu that changes daily. Marianne is open for lunch Friday to Sunday and dinner Tuesday to Sunday; the restaurant also offers a tasting menu for �85.

E&O, brought to you by Ricker Restaurants, is a Pan-Asian restaurant just a stone's throw from Portobello Market. The menu consists of exciting and eclectic Asian food, including sushi and sashimi, tempura, BBQ and roasted dishes, the black cod, sweet miso is delicious as does the whole crispy sea bass special. The vibrant bar serves exotic cocktails such as the Thai Fling, a refreshing mixture of lime, lemon, pineapple, rum and frangelico. The weekend brunch dim sum deal is excellent value for money, offering half price on all dim sum on Saturdays and Sundays for bookings made between 11am and 12.30pm.

Following a successful pop-up venture, Boom Burger moved to new home on Portobello Road in Notting Hill in early 2014. The Jamaican-influenced burger company brings a taste of the Caribbean to London. The focus, unsurprisingly, is on burgers with the classic BOOM Burger with cheese and bacon jam and the Jamaican BOOM, a jerk chicken burger with fried plantain and mango sauce. The side portions are divine, especially the plantain fries and jerk wings. Boom Burger is a very casual restaurant with the open kitchen on full view, but the burgers are fantastic and are worth queuing for at peak times.
