And we're not talking salads, though there certainly are plenty of those. They also whip up everything from Cajun pasta with venison sausage and pan-seared wild salmon on risotto— to buffalo tacos, sandwiches, omelets, pancakes and even stuffed French toast. And then there's the gluten-free desserts, one of which includes a Nutella cake (soaked with espresso and filled with a Nutella cream cheese frosting) that's out of this world. Founded by pastry chef and chocolatier, Katherine Clapner, the shop is best known for its quirky one-of-a-kind creations, many of which usually include fusing sweet and savory ingredients together. Think toffee with porcini mushroom powder; chocolate fudge with dehydrated blue cheese; and dark chocolate bark with sesame sticks and candied garbanzo beans. They also do truffles, marshmallows, chocolate covered candied nuts, drinking chocolate and even boozy chocolate potions. But what many people may not realize, most everything on offer here happens to be gluten-free. Not sure what you want? Bananas foster pancakes, sour cream coffee cake, French dip sandwiches and chicken fried steak with garlic mash and honey jalapeno gravy— all gluten-free? You betcha. This casual Greenville Avenue eatery has made its mark on Dallas' healthy-eating food map thanks to a menu of organic, gluten-free dishes that don't compromise on taste. In fact, it was one of the first restaurants to embrace the concept when it opened in 2011, and even with all the competition, the place is just as popular as ever. And there's a reason for that: Not only does Company Cafe actively cater to gluten-adverse folks, it also caters to all, meaning anything on the menu can be made with gluten as well as without. Ditto for cocktails and desserts. Plus you can eat-in or have them pack everything up to-go. Speaking of to-go, the owners also run Liteful Foods, an online bakery that cranks out fresh gluten-free goodies (biscuits, bread, coconut macaroons and cakes) to be delivered straight to your door. By the way, we hear the CinnFul Cake Bites here are truly sinful.
Recommended for Gluten-Free Baked Goods because: Company Cafe serves up healthy food that doesn't taste like health food.
Ilene's expert tip: Coupons for both Company Cafe and Liteful Foods can often be found on Groupon.
It's difficult to find— and virtually impossible to park up close— but that hasn't stopped folks from pouring into Andrea Meyer's bijou sweets boutique. And it's easy to see why: the place is a Gallic gold mine of tasty treasures that include everything from tarts and tea cakes (think citrus madeleines and chocolate almond financiers) to French-style pastries, cookies and scones. You really can't go wrong with anything in the pastry case, but if you're following a gluten-free lifestyle then you'll want to check out the macarons, which by all accounts are the best in town. Choose from the likes of pistachio, hazelnut, coffee, salted caramel and tiramisu. Or better yet, order up a box of twelve— that way you can taste them all. And don't skip the chocolate mousse (made with Valrhona dark chocolate and topped with whipped cream and crispy chocolate pearls), it's gluten-free too.

Though it has only been opened less than a year, Haute Sweets is already shaping up to be one of the city's hottest bakeries. Which is especially surprising since the place is located in an off-the-beaten-track shopping strip near White Rock Lake in East Dallas. But while the shop may be new, its owners, Gianni Santin and Tida Pichakron— are not. The pair had previously built up a following for their macarons and other show-stopping confections through a catering business that they operated out of a storefront in Trinity Groves. In addition to macarons, in flavors ranging from passion fruit caramel to Earl Grey and banana hazelnut, gluten-free foodies can dig into miniature sponge cakes in flavors like lemon raspberry or Bailey's almond cream; almond frangipane tarts, molten cakes and chocolate pot de crèmes. While you're there, check out the gluten-and-dairy-free paleo almond butter brownies, they're out of this world.

From tempting cinnamon rolls and doughnuts to beautifully decorated custom cakes and cookies, Larissa Wilson is so dedicated to producing delicious baked goods that you'd be hard-pressed to detect that everything at her bakery is gluten-free. Not only does Wilson operate a pop-up stall at The Shed in the Dallas Farmers Market every weekend, but you can also find her peddling her tantalizing treats out of a new Mesquite location—Tuesdays through Saturdays.
