About Memphis, TN Shopping
Shopping in Memphis has come a long way recently, thankfully bringing more boutique clothing experiences for men and women and upping the game for home decor and design.
The usual suspects can be found in area malls, including Wolfchase Galleria and the Avenue at Carriage Crossing - both in the outlying suburbs. Oak Court Mall, once the go-to for upscale East Memphians, has seen better days, but still offers two major department stores and a smattering of national chains.
The South Main Historic District, just south of the downtown business district and Beale Street, has become vibrant area for clothing, jewelry and art, featuring Charlotte or simply to browse some local artwork should focus on downtown, where abandoned buildings have been replaced with trendy shops and galleries in recent years. The South Main Historic Arts District is full of art galleries displaying the wares of world famous and local artists. You will also find a number of eclectic restaurants and trendy shops housed in renovated warehouses.
Another up-and-coming shopping neighborhood is Cooper-Young. The Memphis Antique and Design District is located on the Northern edge of the neighborhood, featuring a great collection of antique stores, vintage clothing stores, and even an Urban Outfitters. On Cooper and Young, smaller boutiques, and old bookstore, and a super-cool new paint apothecary, Me & Mrs. Jones, carries a line of English chalk paint that's all the rage among the design set.
For an inexpensive souvenir, head over to Beale Street's A. Schwab, a two story general store and Memphis landmark where you can purchase everything from kitschy home décor to overalls to key chains.
