About Myrtle Beach, SC Shopping
From upscale to on-sale, Myrtle Beach's shopping scene has come a long way since the souviner stores and the five-and-dimes. The former Myrtle Beach Air Force Base has been transformed into a trendy shopping district, featuring top national retailers that were previously unheard of on the Grand Strand. Barefoot Landing and Broadway at the Beach contain similar shops, as do the new Coastal Grand Mall and Inlet Square Mall and two Tanger Outlets. Shoppers looking to beat retail prices can check out local chain Dick's Pawn Shop and Hudson's Flea Market, and the Super Block in downtown Myrtle Beach is blossoming with trendy second-hand stores and unique boutiques. Of course, the tacky souviner stands, such as Eagles, Wings and the deceptively named "Nothing Under $7.95" stores, still exist on virtually every corner. It's hard to swing a dead hermit crab without hitting one of these outlets, but the number of upscale shops and boutiques have added some class and balance to shopping in the Myrtle Beach area.
