A perennial favorite, Hamburger Joe's provides more bang for your buck than most other Grand Strand eateries, so it's perfect if you're on a budget. In fact, you can probably afford to splurge and get some wings and a beer along with your cheeseburger, which comes heaped with slaw, chili, onions, lettuce, tomato, pickles, or whatever combination you'd prefer. Kids enjoy the fried bologna sandwich, hot dog, or grilled cheese; grown-ups appreciate the onion rings - and the fact that they can get a rum and coke or a Long Island Iced Tea with their burger or BLT. The screen-in back porch also offers spectacular views of the salt marsh.
Recommended for Take Out because: True to its title, Hamburger Joe's makes some of the best burgers in town.
Terry's expert tip: Hamburger Joe's offers $1 domestic drafts ALL THE TIME! Big parties can save money buying discounted pitchers.
Take some home-cooking home to your family without touching a single pot or pan by visiting K&W Cafeteria. This small, regional chain has plenty of seating and cafeteria-style dining, but one of its best-kept secrets is a side door known as "K&W To Go." The carry-out counter allows patrons to go through the line and point out their a la cart entrees, including fried or baked chicken and fish, meat loaf, chicken pan pie, grilled steak and grilled liver and onion, and side items, featuring mashed potatoes and gravy, broccoli and cheese, green beans, mac and cheese and much more.
Recommended for Take Out because: K&W To Go has all the home-cooking you need for a family dinner at home or the hotel.
Terry's expert tip: Save room for dessert and take home a whole pie or cake made in the on-site bakery.
The name may have pigeon-holed this popular delivery/take-out establishment as a chicken-wing joint, which it is. But Hot Wing Express also serves a surprisingly diverse and delicious menu of Thai and Chinese cuisine. The wings are fried and come in a wide range of flavors - Cajun, BBQ, Parmesan and many more - and Hot Wing Express also serves traditional American favorites like hamburger steak, fried pork chops, rotisserie chicken, Buffalo chicken, sandwiches, soups and salads. But the best-kept secret is the Asian food, such as Pad Thai, Sweet or Sour Chicken with stir-fry vegetables, egg rolls, dumplings and more.
Recommended for Take Out because: For families with diverse taste buds, Hot Wing Express can deliver everyone a happy meal.
Terry's expert tip: Hot Wing Express has a long list of specials, including the Pad Thai and six wings for $12.50.
One would never guess it from the curb, but inside this tiny red-and-white shack resides one of the best delis and grills on the Grand Strand. Serving hot burgers, sandwiches, subs, gyros and, of course, Philly Cheesesteaks, the Best of Philly packs a lot of flavor into a tiny diner. Regulars rave about the Philly, topped with melted provolone instead of cheap Cheez-Whiz, and the chicken wings are surprisingly strong for a deli. All the subs are tasty, and the gyros are probably the second most popular item on the small menu. Seating is limited so it's a good place to get it to go.
Recommended for Take Out because: Best of Philly lives up to its name with great Italian and Greek offerings.
Terry's expert tip: Visitors from Philadelphia may disagree, but Dagwood's makes one of the best Philly Cheesesteak this side of the City of Brotherly Love.
The tired old breakfast and lunch get an extreme makeover at Johnny D's Waffle House, where the traditional eggs and pancakes undergo a serious upgrade. Terry's expert tip: Try to arrive between the breakfast and lunch rush for quicker seating. Both menus are available all day.
Located on the ground floor of a hotel convention center, this restaurant draws lots of locals who only venture downtown in the summer months if there's something really good waiting for them. This buffet-style eatery serves three hots a day, but breakfast may be its best offering. Hot grits, gravy and biscuits along with eggs, bacon, sausage give guests a true taste of the South to start their days. Fresh fruit and French toast are available for those with a morning sweet tooth. The friendly service and atmosphere make this place well worth waking up to on your vacation. Make your own to-go box and pay by the pound.

Sandwiches, burgers, subs and salads are also available.

Named after the famous cartoon character with an affinity for sandwiches stacked to the ceiling, Dagwood's Deli follows the same recipe for a longtime, lunch-time favorite that has patrons lined up out the door. Beat the rush by calling ahead and picking up a picnic package that won't leave you hungry. Offering deli meats that are sliced on site, fresh deli bread big enough to hold a skyscraper and all the veggies and fixings, Dagwood's keeps them coming back for more by being more than generous with the ingredients. Grab some chips, fries or pasta salad to go with it and enjoy the feast. Wash it all down with a cold drink or beer.

Terry's expert tip: If you have time to wine and dine in be sure, check out the adjoining Bumstead's Pub.
Break the burgers-and-fries routine for some excellent Japanese cuisine that's good to go in more ways than one. Chef and owner Jimmy is a bit of a local legend, operating several other Japanese restaurants and catering services over the years, but now he has his own place and a loyal local following. Patrons can dine in, but the carry-out window makes for a quick and convenient way to enjoy a hot meal at home or your hotel room. Choose from a wide range of meats and vegetables, including steak, shrimp, grouper, chicken and pork with mixed veggies over fried rice or garlic soy noodles. Jimmyz also serves great sushi, wraps, soups and salads.
Recommended for Take Out because: Chef Jimmy Miller has been serving Japanese cuisine on the Grand Strand for more than 20 years.
Terry's expert tip: To feed the whole family for less, the triple combination dinner allows you to pick three meats with veggies and rice for less than $15.
