About Cherry Grove Beach
This small stretch of land between North Myrtle Beach and Little River may be tiny in terms of square mileage, but it's rich with local landmarks and things to do. The oceanfront and pier provide a nice escape and the small strip of restaurants and shops make it a nice place to spend an afternoon. Some of the top area golf courses are in the area but fishing, whether off the pier or in the expansive Cherry Grove Inlet, is the chosen sport of locals. Bottom line: You can find it all in Cherry Grove, just in smaller portions.
See & Do
Most folks around these parts can be seen with a stick in their hands, either a fishing pole or golf club. The Cherry Grove Pier is famous for its record catches, including the world's largest tiger shark caught from dry land that measured nearly 20 feet and weighed in at close to a ton. Cherry Grove Inlet also allows for fishing for big game right off your back porch. For those who prefer to pursue the little white ball instead of the big one that got away, there are several top golf courses in the neighborhood, including River Hills, Glen Dornoch and Heather Glen.
Eat
The original Duffy Street Seafood Shack is the center of activity in this little town, packing in patrons hungry for the freshest seafood around. With the fishing villages of Little River and Calabash located just across the inlet, there's no shortage of fresh fish, shrimp and crabs to choose from. For a taste of home cooking, The Shack is just down the street.
Party
Neighboring North Myrtle Beach gets all the credit for being home to the world-famous shag dance, but the No. 1 club for shagging on the beach is actually in Cherry Grove at Harold's on the Ocean. Folks can slide around in their shoes on the sand and sawdust dance floor and take a break from the beach with a cold one at HOTO's oceanfront bar. For those looking to venture off the beach, Captain Poo's Bar and Grill on the Intracoastal Waterway is a great place to end the day.
Stay
Cherry Grove is largely made up of rows of beach homes, many of which are available for weekly rental, but the crown jewel of the neighborhood is the Prince Resort at Cherry Grove Pier, a towering structure that joins the pier on the oceanfront. Guests can walk right out into the Atlantic Ocean or look out from their balconies at the activities on the boardwalk.
Shop
Forget about the modern malls and shopping outlets of neighboring Myrtle Beach and North Myrtle Beach, although Barefoot Landing and the Tanger Outlet are only a short drive away. Shopping in Cherry Grove means hitting the mom-and-pop shops, such as Cottage Antiques and other flea-market style stores.
