About Philadelphia, PA Restaurants
Not long ago, many viewed the notion of "innovative Philly cuisine" as little more than topping a steak sandwich with Swiss cheese instead of Cheese Whiz. How times do change! These days, Philadelphia's restaurant scene has emerged as one of the most admired on the East Coast – heck, the city's even crafted and perfected its own genre of restaurants. Characterized by warmly intimate confines and limited seating, most of Philadelphia's BYOB (bring-your-own-bottle) establishments earn high marks, thanks to the fantastic skills of their relatively young and inventive chefs. Eateries without liquor licenses charge no or minimal corkage fees, and this plays right into the average Philadelphian's sense of independence. Of course, the city boasts its fair share of fully licensed restaurants, as well, particularly in the Rittenhouse, Old City, Manayunk and Passayunk neighborhoods.
