The South Shore of Lake Tahoe is the most populated and probably the most popular area on the lake. This is where most of the Nevada casinos and the California restaurants are including the very popular Emerald Bay. The South Shore also has a wide range of beaches, hiking areas, public parks and shopping.
See & Do
The South Shore area of Lake Tahoe includes the Nevada area of Stateline, South Lake Tahoe, the community of Meyers and Emerald Bay. Within these areas you have dozens of beach resorts, the ski resorts of Heavenly and Kirkwood and, of course, the popular and stunning Emerald Bay State Park. This famous and probably the most photographed area on the lake is located on the far west side of South Shore.
Other beaches in the area are Pope Beach, which shares an area with Kiva Beach and Camp Richardson Beach. Some of the beaches have hotels, resorts and hiking trails as well as areas for swimming, boating and kayaking. Camp Richardson is one of the largest camping areas on the lake and is known for its summer Renaissance Festival.
Eat
South Lake Tahoe has the best overall selection of restaurants on the lake. From the favorite local breakfast spots like Heidi's Pancake House and Rude Brothers Bagels to elegant dining at the Chart House or Café Fiore, you will find other restaurants like these and everything else in between.
If you are looking for a quick lunch spot near to everything, try the Driftwood Café at Heavenly for great burgers and sandwiches or Nicki's Chaat Café for their huge Indian menu.
For a romantic dinner with a view of the lake and the sunset, try the Riva Grill, the Fresh Ketch with their award-winning seafood or the beautiful Edgewood restaurant, located at the Edgewood golf course right on the beach.
Party
The South Shore begins (or ends) in Stateline, Nevada where most of the area's casinos are located. This includes the Montbleu, Harrah's Tahoe, the Horizon and Harvey's. These casinos is where you will find the best nightlife in the area including the Opal Ultra Lounge at the Montbleu and Vex nightclub at Harrah's. Harvey's has weekly improv and both Harvey's and Harrah's have great shows and musical acts.
