About North Las Vegas

North Las Vegas is a city in its own right, but the sprawl of Southern Nevada has swallowed up this working-class community, erasing any obvious division between Las Vegas and North Las Vegas. Located close to Nellis Air Force Base, North Las Vegas is home to many military families. Race fans regularly descend on NLV to visit the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, which hosts NASCAR as well as other racing events.
See & Do
By far, North Las Vegas’ most well-known attraction is the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. This racing complex has not only the main track that hosts NASCAR, but other tracks as well for drag racing and dirt racing. This popular race track’s location next door to Nellis Air Force Base gives the audience not only a view of the speeding vehicles on the track, but also of the jets soaring overhead.
Eat
Since North Las Vegas is largely a residential neighborhood, look for plenty of family-friendly and casual dining establishments. Small shopping centers dot North Las Vegas, and at any of these you’re sure to find an array of restaurant names you’ll recognize. You’ll find a few Mom-and-Pop places tucked away in the shopping centers and strip malls, which can give you an alternative to the big names and chains.
Stay
Visitors will find plenty of moderately-priced chain hotels and motels in North Las Vegas, but none of those properties have gaming. For a more Vegas-like experience, try neighborhood hotel casinos, like Aliante, Texas, or Fiesta Rancho. You’ll find extras like movie theaters and bowling alleys. Room rates are reasonable, giving visitors who aren’t interested in the Strip an alternative that may be closer to whatever destinations they have in mind.
