Amsterdam is a foodie’s paradise. Whether you are looking to share a casual meal with friends, celebrate something special at an upscale restaurant, crave classic comfort food or just want to try something innovative, Amsterdam has it all. From Dutch cuisine and French delights to Japanese dishes, fresh succulent seafood, spicy Indonesian, tasty tapas and almost everything in between, the city offers just about every flavor from around the world. In the end, each restaurant has its own character and provides a “gezellig” (best translated to “cozy” in English) experience.
The Dutch tend to eat early, so be aware most kitchens close at 22:00. A few stay open late, while some cafes and pubs may only serve finger food. Unless otherwise specified, checks include 19 percent tax and 15 percent service.
