The Medici Chapel is one the most visited places to visit in San Lorenzo. It was constructed for the Medici family. The tombs were designed by Michelangelo. It mimicked Brunelleschi's Sagrastia Vecchia which is located in the Church of San Lorenzo. The chapel shared the shape of a cubical space with a dome above it. Each tomb was created using the famous pietra serena. Michelangelo began working on these tombs in 1521. He sculpted the tombs representing Night and Day and Dawn and Dusk. He planned on completed 4 Medici tombs but Michelangelo was only able to finish two. He completed the tomb of Lorenzo di Medici and the Tomb of Giuliano de' Nemours.
